As I enjoy this beautiful late summer's day in New England with not a cloud in the sky, my thoughts are with all our Texan friends in the path of Hurricane Harvey. He's moving quickly, about 10 miles per hour and expected to hit Corpus Christi early tomorrow morning if not sooner. Harvey will be the biggest landfall hurricane (category 3) in the US since 2005. Plus, there's also a tornado threat! Corpus Christi and up the coast to Galveston and Houston are expected to get 3 feet of rain...three feet! Think of the damage that will cause.

So, as I look forward to dinner tonight with my husband celebrating another anniversary, my thoughts and prayers are with you in Texas...stay safe.

All the best,

Karen

Yes, I hope the damage is minimal! Happy Anniversary!

Thank you :)

I don't have any family or friends, Maybe a couple of WA'ers, but, my prayers go out to them to be safe even if that means they have to leave town.

That storm is supposed to hang around the south coast for a few days just glad I'm not there. It ain't going to be pretty.

BE SAFE TEXAS

It's turning into a category 4...very scary indeed. I heard the Governor of Texas told people that if they don't evacuate...to please write their social security # on their arm. Yikes!
I'm glued to the news and praying everyone will be safe.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!

Yes, I am thinking of all my friends in Louisianna too. They seem not to have been able to get out from under one storm until the next takes hold.

Thinking of everyone in Harvey's path and praying for blessings!!

Yea...me too, Tammi. The sad thing is...the smart ones evacuate to stay safe but while they're away, their homes are broken into and looted. I know it's only material things that can be replaced but why can't people just come together in a crises instead of taking advantage of it. Oh man...if I ruled the world.....

...things would be a lot different!!!

hahaha

Yes indeed, my heart goes out to those that are in the path of Harvey. I pray that the damages is little or next to none. Thanks for the reminder Karen, all the best.

Fingers crossed!

It has started raining in Houston as the outer bands of Harvey have reached inland.

Hope you don't get too much rain. I was hoping Harvey would change course and veer out to sea.

My daughter lives west of Houston; I received the news from her. I am 1400 miles away in Virginia.

Have you received an update from your daughter? I heard it's now a category 4. You may not have the answer to this question but I was wondering if flood insurance is mandatory in those areas like Corpus Christi, Galveston, Houston and Louisiana. Here in New England, if you live in an area prone to floods, home owners insurance is crazy, crazy expensive.

I have not heard from her yet. Yes, there are flood zones that require flood insurance. ProPublica.org has several great articles on flooding in Houston including maps of flood zones.

I heard on the news this morning that insurance companies (as they always do) will try to weasel out of paying the thousands of claims that will be filed. They warned people that while they may have flood insurance, they may not have hurricane insurance so insurance companies will perhaps only cover part of a claim.
I always think of these things working in the financial world for so many years.

Praying for those in Harvey's path

Good afternoon Karen,

Natures forces can be so frightening. In Spain there are a lot of fires and most are man made. I remember years ago when it started raining during Christmas and did not stop till 3 months later. Big parts of Andalucia were flooded and businesses were ruined, tourism also suffered. I live half way from the mountains to the valley so the water kind of passed me. I had visible water standing till July on a third of my orange field of 1000 square m.
Monse had a post today saying she was sitting in the middle of this
Harvey and we should please pray for her.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

3 months of rain? WOW...so sad. I'd like to send Monse a message - can you share her profile?

Hello Karen,

Her profile is the same as her name = Monse.

All the best, Taetske

Karen, I pray that your request is granted. My heart still lies there since I was born and raised in Texas. I am living in Baton Rouge now which puts me on the east (wet side) of the hurricane. Louisiana already suffered from a flood a just a short time ago, so the heavy rains will not be a welcome addition. I have been very fortunate though because I have not had any named storms hit my state in a very long time.
Thank you for your support and may we all become better people after this storm.
Ken

I heard on the news that Louisiana is going to get hit as well with so much rain. You're in my thoughts as well, Ken...stay safe.

Thank you Karen and happy anniversary to you and your husband.
Ken

Thank you very much, Ken...stay dry.

I lived a little south of Houston when hurricane Alicia hit. Very scary and the devastation unbelievable. My prayers are with the fine people of Texas.

My prayers with the people in Texas and the South. Harvey is looking tough.
