Basic Features visitors expect from your website

Having a website in one things and having an effective website is another. In an era where being online is a necessity for large and small businesses, here are some features that visitors expect from your website.

  • Page speed loading time a slow loading website and a slow loading pages and posts may harm your conversion rate as visitors wouldn't want to wait for a long time after they click. Since visitors have no time to gang around before your website loads they will quickly click back and go for next competitor even if they may be below you in the search rank. by minimising your website loading time by just a second, will increase your conversions, boost your reputation and your page ranking.
  • The web design and layout: The other thing that may grab the attention of your website visitors is its layout and design, if you website does not look professional, has pop ups all over or is complicated to navigate, it will chase even the most loyal visitors. Make sure your website is well organised and should be with quick and clear understanding of what the site is about. It should display clearly all of your selling points. Your website should allow visitors to explore further while being able to find their way back to where they started. An easy to navigate website will keep visitors there for a long time and this will increase the chances for conversion.
  • Self Shoot Images: the use of stock images on websites may give your website a professional view to visitors, but that is not true reflection of YOU or your business. By revealing your self, you will be able to create trust in visitors that may lead to long relationship, by also portraying your own images makes customers trust your willingness of going further with the business which is an important factor that customers look at before venturing into buying your products.
  • More Images and Less Content: By nature visitors to your website have no quick enough patience of going through all that long content that you may have on your site, so you must design your website in such a way that you have more images than content. This is because people all over the world get attracted with visuals. Im not saying you should avoid content at all, what Im saying is that you should balance and have more images compared to content. Remember content on website is very important for google ranking. Google ranking depends upon the presentation of your content. So in short you should be able to balance the two

I hope these lines will be of great help to those who are busy with online business.

Cheers,

Very good pointers. I am struggling with the image section. I am trying not to use stock or borrowed photographs. I am also creating some graphical illustrations but even I find them a bit flat. I have some serious work to do there. Thanks for the pointers.

Hi there Tyrell, for images and graphics have you tried google images, if you use the search tools button, then, from the drop-down click on Usage rights, then labeled for reuse. or you can use pixabay which offers loads of pictures. Good luck my friend.:-))Steph

No I haven't. Thank you for the tip, will get right onto it.

Good advise. Thanks. How would you go about increasing page loading speed?

One thing I have found when trolling sites is to many promotions and ads can slow it down....just my experience
Sandra

Hi.. Page load speeds & Use Of Images refer.

1. Use TinyPNG and TinyJPG tools (tinypg.com , tinyjpg.com) to compress images with little or no significant loss of image quality. Easy to use, very effective with regards page load speeds.
Plugin also available for wordpress, but above sufficient for most of us.
2. Relevance of images to topic / contents important.
3. Attribute source/details of image, especially if unsure about usage rights.

Thanks
