Doing Business at the Local Café
Tonight we both met with the client at a local café in a very relaxed atmosphere.
We were both well-prepared, and my partner was armed and ready with all the crowdfunding details.
I had the 7-page contract in my briefcase and we were ready to go!
He brought his son along with him to the café who is a more technically inclined person than himself, and that worked to our advantage. Once we explained our position and how the crowdfunding campaign and raise structure would work, his son became our ally.
My partner did an excellent job demonstrating and re-explaining how the crowdfunding logistics would work using presentation material on her laptop, going over the website, while I crunched the numbers.
This was not an easy deal by far, as during the negotiation we were met with some resistance by the client. When a client doesn’t quite understand the numbers, things can go awry rather quickly.
The beautiful thing about this new contract is that I was able to negotiate a sliding scale commission structure on the crowdfunding proceeds that proved to be win-win.
Once I was able to prove to the client mathematically how much this deal made sense, and how the sliding scale commission was actually saving him crowdfunding money, it was only a matter of time before he was fully onboard.
Then once his son was convinced, it was all but a done deal.
Sensing he was ready, there was nothing else to talk about, only two last steps to finalize.
We both signed it first, then quickly I knew it was his turn. .
So I nonchalantly pushed the contract and pen over toward him and said,
“Initials here, and just sign right there.”
While pointing to the spot.
He quickly nodded at me, took the pen and wrote out the check.
Then signed on the dotted line.
A Surreal and Rewarding Feeling!

Afterwards, we ALL went out for a drink to celebrate!

Yes, I prefer the "Idiots Guide to the Galaxy", which is something I can relate to. Lol! In laymen's terms, that simply means I was off the juice, and focused, no clown attire to be found!
