Happy Fathers Day to All

A slightly belated Happy Father’s Day.

I know I am late, please forgive me.

Yes, I share wonderful memories of Father's Day.

Although I never knew my Dad, he passed away when I was very little.

But I do remember celebrating Father’s Day many a year with my beloved grand-father, who was a very hard-working and honorable man born on an island off southern Italy. He had a heart of gold.

All The Small Things

I remember the small things he would do that I cherish so much to this day. How when I was 3 years old he once promised to give me a $10 bill if I learned to count from 1-10 in Italian, which he honored when I did then upped it to $50 when I extended the count.

Great memories of the captivating stories he told me of the “old country.” How he would wake up as a very young man, and jump outside of his window into the sea.

Sweet memories of how we would watch a ballgame together, especially the 1986 Game 6 World Series between the New York Mets vs. Boston Red Sox (sorry Red Sox fans, but that is one I will always remember!)

For those who still have their Dads around, you have been bestowed an amazing gift. Today is never to be taken for granted, and tomorrow is never promised.

I greatly miss my grand-father, who we called “Baba”, but I know he is up in Heaven.

He was such a fun-loving and generous person.

And I know he is now looking down upon me and rooting me on.

Happy Father’s Day!

Thanks for your post, Kaju. We no longer have our dads, and as you said, never take them for granted. Suddenly they are not there for their pearls of wisdom and jokes.

Baba would be so proud of you. He sounds like he was a treasure. Love the counting story.

My grandfather (Colette) was from a very small town in Italy, too. He died when I was only 7 but I can still hear him singing his Italian songs. He grew figs in his backyard and always let me help him pick them. Philip adored his grandfather, who was Welsh, and they shared so many wonderful things together. I still hear the stories.

Those memories stay in our hearts forever.

Thank you,

C and P

So true, Colette. I can still hear Baba affectionately "yelling" at my grandmother for playing those 'ol Italian songs on her accordion so loudly!

We all have Great Stories, Father's Day is a wonderful day to reminisce and think back about them.

Hope you both have a fabulous day!

These are beautiful memories of your Grandad, Kaju. And this is exactly what Father's Day is about - celebrating all the wonderful moments we (have) had with the person who cares or cared about us as or like a dad.
Your Grandad must have been a very special person, Kaju, and I'm sure you will always stay close to him.

He is dear to my heart, and I have so many beautiful memories of the Man, little things he did, a "look", a joke, a story, that always make me smile.
Thank You for reminding of those extra moments with my special "Baba" Sammy. Hope you have great memories too.

Yes, thank you, Kaju, I have too. And memories keep loved ones lost alive.

So very true.

Happy father's day

If you don't yet, I will happily return the favor when yours is up.:)

He very much will be rooting you on friend and he will be very proud of what you have achieved and done with your life as will the rest of your family too.

They will all be there together watching over you and saying "Don't going putting your foot in it again" and holding their heads in their hands and sighing lol.

My husband and I are both very lucky to still have our dads with us and our children still have both sets of grandparents. xxxx

Oh, I see them all now, shaking their heads with their foreheads in the hands C, lol! Cherish those moments that remain.

Yep, probably tutting and saying when will he ever learn not to jump in with those two big clown feet lol.

One thing I make sure I do is cherish what time I have with my dad and my father-in-law. My father-in-law is 88 on 15th November and my own dad is 80 on 19th November so they are both getting on. xxx

Oh yeah, they don't want to see me tripping over my big clown feet anymore! Really glad you are spending that quality time with your dad and father-in-law C!

Happy Father, Kaju.

Happy to you too, Big Rog!

Beautiful tribute to your dear Baba, Kaju. You have inspired me to share the tribute I wrote for my father's funeral. He died in 1986, but many things still remind me of him. Just the other day an image of someone sitting with folded hands and thumbs on his chin reminded me of how he used to sit at the kitchen table that way. Precious memories!

Have a great week, Kaju.

Carol

That's too precious. Carol. The body positions, and small gestures are the things that leave the most indelible impressions, don't they?

For me, if was the way my "Baba" would lean on his left elbow while lying down sideways watching television. I can still see him now. Wow!

Yes. I could see him, too as you described him. I'm very visual. I see a movie of what I'm reading when I'm reading a good book.

I think you may be onto something!

I'm always surprised when I ask other people if they do, and they tell me they don't, but are envious of my own personal movies on the back of my eyelids!

Thank you.

My pleasure Bryced.

Happy belated Father’s Day to you also Kaju. It was a fantastic day for me as both my daughters took time from their families to wish me a happy day, perhaps not realizing that by that simple gesture they had indeed made it a happy one.

Wonderful Harvey, these simple gestures are what Father's Day is all about, Happy you had an excellent day!

Are you a daddy Kaju?

I'm not, but I am grateful I had a wonderful role model growing up.
Hope you enjoyed your Father's Day, Mike. And if not, well there is always TODAY!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful, vivid memories of your Grandpa, Kaju. Imagine how awesome... To jump out of your bedroom window into the sea. That image will stay in my mind. Beautiful post.

Awww, thank you Lauren so much. I will always remember "Baba" he was like my Dad. So full of life, and so many great stories!

Thank You.
