if your website is about running shoes for example, am i allowed to put up pictures of adidas runners with there description underneath it? or nike, reebok etc.

If i'm not

This is a problem for me too Scott. Copyright laws seem to be something of a hornets nest.

Are you referring to your own pictures (I mean pictures that you took of those products?) or are you asking about pictures that you got somewhere online?

well either actually, i thought of that aswell after posting
if you have a tube of toothpaste at home are you allowed to take a photo of it and put it on your website with some info about it?

Well I am not a lawyer and my answer is in no way a professional one, but from what I know, you are allowed to use any image that YOU take and own.
So yes, you can take a picture of an actual toothpaste brand and publish it as part of your post and website (as long it is not becoming your logo or trademark).
But if you want to use ANY picture that someone else took and own and that you found online, you must get their permission or buy a license to use the picture on your website or any publication.
There are websites for free images, that allow you to use pictures under an open license, that usually only require you to attribute the picture to the owner. Kyle is talking about those free images site in one of the lessons (for example : http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page ).
Other websites are selling pictures under a license that allows you to use them in your website with the cost of a few dollars (1-4) per picture. (For example see: http://www.canstockphoto.com/ ).
In any case check the specific terms of the license before using any picture.

thanks orena that helps a lot really appreciate such a lengthy reply and explanation :) :) :)

Hi Guys,

I have read most of these articles and checked out at least 20 different sites recommended for free copyright images however i can't find anything that fits my ni

Hi Scott, bummer, I know. Most "good" images come with a price. Check out http://pixabay.com. I've found a decent selection there, not so many cheesy clip art images either. Good luck.

thanks tara, what's the go with all the pics that they shutterstock across the middle? can we get that removed or is that who we have to pay?

I know, kind of annoying. It looks like they embed sponsored images from Shutterstock that obviously aren't free, but are definitely tempting. Pixaby is free as far as I can see.

Hi Scott, depending on your niche, have you considered taking pictures of what you're into and then using those for your images? I'm curious as to what you come up with. Good luck! :)

Tom

hi guys thanks for all your comments i do appreciate it, i had some awesome pics all over my website before i found out about all the copyright stuff and now the free ones just aren't as good thats all.
any suggestions on where to purchase really cheap pics? or would you not recommend this?
thanks again cheers scott

What is your niche, Scott? I know it is sometimes hard to find exactly the right images because I also had a little trouble. I just used the http://Wickamedia.com. It seemed to work fine for me. Good luck and I hope this helped.

Hi Guys,

is there a tool to see how popular a specific niche is? e.g Kyles example in training about belly fat would obviously be a popular niche, but pheasant hunting may

You don't need a tool. I just typed in Belly Fat in google. I came up with many belly fat affiliate programs and thousand of searches.
Just type in pheasant hunting in your search bar and see what you come up with for searches and affiliate programs too.

There are many. Jaxxy, ubersuggest, Soovle and more. Those are 3 to start with. Popularity is not always an indication of success. Sometimes it is hard to break through the competition when there is too much already out there.

Thank you, i guess what i meant is with the belly fat example there is lots of interest and some good QSR & SEO numbers, other examples have the same QSR & SEO numbers but with way way less people looking for it on a monthly basis and less people actually going to the site, so was wondering if there is a tool or website that shows figures of traffic for trending topics? that would then give a starting point to narrow down into a specific niche....if that makes sense? :)
