Wouldn't it be true that there is no job security in affiliate marketing? Let's say you have a website, it has content, traffic, it's ranked on page 1. Sure, sure, but in order
Unfortuantely there is no job security even in the corporate world, but even less as an entrepreneur. However, with owning your own business yes, you are at the mercy of the public even more. By effectively creating your site, you can maximize your income and still be able to pay your bills, etc.
There is no job security these days and that is why we develop more than one site in a different niche so there are various income streams
I cannot add to the remarks already given. I can only emphasize. Just recently my young daughter-in-law was given notice for no reason...a layoff of a certain category of people in the department. Her CEO even wrote and expressed concern and desire to make sure she finds another job...she should make appointment with him. He said she has served well for over 10 years. Yet, she has still been laid off. Loyalty? Security? These don't exist in today's world, unless you are civil service and even then there are no guarantees. The only loyalty you have and the only security you have is YOU. That's the real attraction of WA. And yes, you do it over gain, rinse and recycle. Wouldn't you have liked to have done something like that with your job, while increasing your income?? This is it. It doesn't get better. Maybe you will win the lottery, but I hear those winners lose much more than they have won, on average. LOL Can you tell this is something that I have great passion about? I've seen too, too many people lose their jobs for some contrived reason that amounts to the fact that the employees are just there at the whim of the employer--this after decades of committed employement. So I do have passion.
Welcome to having your own business. There is no FREE LUNCH. Internet Business just helps with the leverage of your product and/or service. With all products and/or services you must keep abreast of the changing demands and be able to assist your clients make the right decisions.
I saw this post and response earlier but my fat fingers won't let me respond on my phone. :-) Couldn't wait to get home. Love it that Kyle responded! I worked the 9-5 for about >30 years. First, rarely do you have instant and direct access to the "CEO" if you will AND have them respond. Second, at one time many moons ago you might have been right. Back in "the day" many employees were loyal and stayed with companies their whole career and when they retired, they received their "gold watch" Whoo Hoo. Employers were loyal too AND frequently more stable. It's not like that now. I've seen friends get laid off in the blink of an eye because of downsizing, their company was bought out or (the worst) the company was getting rid of older (and soon retirement eligible) upper management. This was no fault of their own. Could some of this been fought? Yep, but at what cost? You could work for the gov't like I did. It's really hard to get fired or let go. In some cases, that's really a shame. :-) However, you generally work for less than your counterpart in the corporate world does, it's not easy to get in and you have to put up with politics (yuk). It's really not all that great. As a single parent and provider of 3, I had little choice. Bottomline, there are no longer any guarantees and if I was just starting out, I'd want to count on ME and have control. Yes, customers can be fickle too, but you can change it up, work from anywhere and once you're website is making money, all you have to do is keep it fresh and updated. All this AND you have a tax write off for having your own business. Sorry this is so long. ~Debbi
Welcome to the club of freelancers, a lot of entrepeneurs and freelancers are falling outside the social security stuff, no work-no pay. As an entrepeneur you have to get your own insurance, what is quite expensive.
I see what you're saying. I don't what you mean by scaling the business. Getting it to grow more and be more successful is what I got from it but I don't know what methods would do that if you're already ranked on page 1.
Also, what more work is there to do after you have content on your page, ranking on Google and making money? Other than adding more content every week, but it's not like you have to add TONS more like you did when you first start putting in content. Maybe a blog post once a week? an addition of a few more products on the site?
The only real work that I could see doing after having an established ranked, money making, successful marketing website, is to make another one in another niche and starting running two websites, then rinse and repeat for life. But as far the first site, it's pretty good where it stands and wouldn't need more than maintenance work to continue thriving.

And Kyle thank you for the response, I just stumbled upon this affiliate marketing stuff on accident in YouTube last week, never got so excited to do something to start making money on my own terms online from my house. A few days a later, I found this site, and now I'm trying to get serious about it, the 9-5 is holding me back though, time is not on my side.
Scaling is essentially building your business. If you're already ranked on the first page of Google consistently and you are generating income then yes, most of your work is done. However, being ranked on the first page does not necessarily mean someone will click your link. This is where social media comes in to play. If you have a large social presence you will be more likely to have people clicking on your link instead of the next one down the line. In other words, you will be building your brand, which is very important for any business. And yes it's true that when you've built your site out you may not need to do more than one post a week, but it's really up to you. The more quality content you have the better so if you want to slow your content creation that's fine but it doesn't mean you necessarily should.
There is no job security in BUSINESS, the same way there is no job security with a JOB. That is the reality of things.
Your business will live and breathe through you and your hard work and one of the most brilliant things you will find with your own business is that there are no limits to what you can achieve. The sky is the limit.
Also, once you get the formula down, you can scale your business and your success very quickly. Sure it runs in autopilot but the idea of "owning a business and sitting on a beach" should be wiped from your head. Yes, you can "work" on a beach, but work is required and what will drive success within your business.
You are in charge Derek, that alone should be exciting!
I've experienced this before and it's not fun. But this is also why I moved to SEO. I think doing SEO properly will bring us the most secure kind of income in this business. Relying on Craigslist or Facebook will definitely be a gamble because we have no idea when those sites will change their algorithms or whatever else could happen. SEO does seem to be a rock solid method of earning an income. As far as security and paying bills goes, I think as entrepreneurs, it's our responsibility to save and handle our earnings differently than if we had a 9 - 5 job. We need to be prepared for the inevitable but also know there is an abundance of income to be made in this industry.

I see what you guys are saying about how there really isn't job security in the corporate world, while I agree, I also disagree at the same time. The moral of the story is that, things that are out of our control make it so that there is no security.
i.e. Down sizing, layoffs, etc.
But let's say your company that you work for is doing good. Let's say you work for Walmart.
They're not down sizing anytime soon. There is job security in jobs like those, you control it because as long as you do your job and don't slack. You won't get fired, you will continue to make money and have job security from that, unless.... like I said before... an uncontrollable event happens and forces you out of a job.
Affiliate marketing however, is totally uncontrollable in every aspect no matter how hard you work.
It's not totally uncontrollable, one reason for the lessons is to teach you how to control it as much as possible. No, you can't tell people to go to your website, and you can't force them to click on your affiliate links. However, if you continually add to your site, you will increase your authority and rankings. And when people see something on the first page of Google they will be much more likely to click on it, and with more people visiting your website, the more will be clicking through. It's all a numbers game, starting with the number of quality posts you create.
So while you can't directly control others' actions, you can indirectly through your own. Also I don't think "job security" really applies to online marketing in the first place, because you will have the job for as long as you want it. What we're discussing here is more along the lines of "income security".

Yeah income security makes more sense, seeing how you'll always have an online job. Thanks.
