Keyword, Niche and Market Research

I bought a domain and used my jaaxy research to choose what I thought was the best choice in my niche, now that I'm writing and using keywords in the content I'm wondering if i

should be fine as long all your content reflects your domain name. If you keyword domain is broad then you can include sub-niche ideas using the same domain name.

No it is very specific so now I'm not sure what I should do......

lol...oh ok..you want to let me know what it is or is it a secret??..the other way you can do it, is leave the domain name as it is and come back to it later on, ok.. I have 2 domain names I have bought but have not done anything with it...so if you really feel that you are stuck??..and you have an idea that you want to pursue but think the domain name is not going to cover it then get another one..it is only costing you $13 per domain because you get free hosting here.. ..hope this helps

Yes, its women's leggings, but I also have an idea that's broader in arts and crafts. So I'm not sure, I think women's leggings is too specific...?

What do you mean? they do have mens ones too??? they just call it long johns..lol..seriously, they do have mens leggings as well though women would be into that buying leggings in different colours...you could include other things that would go with leggings..like runners - running shoes that is....for jogging? or dress shoes and then include socks that go with it ..and what do you wear underneath like under garments you could put that in because you will need a tight fit so it does not bulge ...then you could add those heart monitor watches that goes well with the legging for jogging..then the tops with the leggings....you see it is becoming broader..but if you web name is leggings ..start with that then broaden it out once people get into your shop.

.But if you want to change and do arts and craft??...hmm..maybe rethink what you have already but it is up to you.

Your right. I'm glad I asked so now I have more clarity. Sometimes when your new at something its so difficult to see the greater picture :) thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it!

no worries HP ..wishing you well

Exact match keywords for domain names used to be an important ranking factor in Google, but then Google changed its algorithm to be less important. Therefore, it won't necessarily hurt you to have a keyword as a domain name, but it could limit you if you want to expand out your niche.

Best Regards,
Jim

Is that why when you use jaaxy and look up keywords it gives you the .com option? I think that's why I thought I had to choose a .com with a "keyword" it's really confusing for someone as new to this as me. So your saying it won't hurt me, or should I start over & change it? Also thanks for helping me

Yeah, it isn't going to hurt you to use it as a domain. I have always been a bit confused in Jaaxy why that feature even exists when Kyle & Carson both have stated that exact-match domains (EMD) don't matter as much as they used to. It could be they just want the most flexibility possible so they include a provision for people who want to pursue that option.

Honestly, don't let this stop your business. If you feel strongly about using the EMD, then go for it. But, it could limit you later being that it is too specific. Of course, domain names are so cheap that you could have the EMD and then buy a broader name for another domain.

That's true! Ok, ill keep it and maybe expand later. One other question, if I make another site that is more brandable and expandable with another idea I have and leave this site for now and come back to it later will it affect it negatively as far as Google is concerned??

It's ideal to have frequent updates to your website. I don't believe that Google will penalize you for not updating your site, but likely won't rank you as well as when you update frequently. Of course, there are several other factors to ranking and quality content is important. Also, if you use your EMD for just selling the product and don't include any other valuable information to the reader, Google may mark your EMD as what they call a thin-affiliate site. That is not something you want to have happen. Make sure your EMD contains information other than just sales pages or pages related to selling that product.

thank you:)

If the keyword is related to and really describes what your Niche is then yes a keyword in your domain name is fine.
But its your Brand that you should concentrate on.

What is your Brand Heather?

I have published many blogs on Keywords and their use and they are important so make sure you find the very best ones to use as part of your articles.

Its rather a lot but when you have the time have a browse through these below.

Have a great Sunday.

Hi Heather!
You will need lots of several different niche keywords on your website, so your domain name shouldn't neccessarily consist of a keyword.
I would say - go for a domain name that sounds relevant to your niche. This way, it will make sense to your audience and you will have an easier ride to attract visitors!

Best of luck!

Anna

Thank you! I believe it may be too specific, and I bought the .com thinking that's what I should do because of the .com option next to it... Is there a way to cancel it, or should I just keep going......

Hello Heather, I would say that the most important thing about your domain name is that it clearly suggests what your niche is, so people have a good idea what your website is about by its domain name.

I would say that using keywords with the domain name in it is unnecessary, the most important thing is to have quality content about your niche.

I would be interested to hear what other people have to say on this subject, but this is how I look at it.

Enjoy your day.
