Tips For Choosing the Best Colors For Your Website
Hello everybody.
I have received very valuable feedback from many of you on my website's layout.
Some of you have paid special attention to the background color and/or general color scheme I have in my site. Some have suggested some changes and have explained their reasons for those suggestions. Others have expressed that the colors fit its content and purpose.
Someone just asked me which could be a good background color for her own website and, with that in mind, I decided to research a little bit on this topic ( which is highy subjective at times). I want to share with you something I just found. I hope this helps us make better decisions with regards to our websites appearance. Have a great day. Many blessings!
Here is a list of the major points to take into account in choosing your website colors:
1. Understand the psychological meanings of your choices for website colors
Red is attention-getting
Orange is adventurous and affordable
Yellow is cheerful and fun
Green is balancing and reflects nature
Turquoise is clarity of thought and communication
Blue is honesty and trustworthiness
Indigo in integrity and sincerity
Purple is individual, creative and inventive
Magenta is compassionate, spiritual yet practical
Pink is loving, compassionate, understanding, youthful and romantic
White is simplicity, cleanliness, order and the new slate to write upon
Black is authority, power and control
Gray is neutral, refined and contemporary
Brown is comfort, dependability and friendliness
Silver will appear as gray on a website so read the information on gray to endure that is the message you wish to send
Gold can appear as a dirty yellow which is not positive for any business. Adjust gold on your website to a golden yellow and read the meaning of the color yellow to see if it imparts the message you want to send
2. Choose the best colors for your text, links and images
If you understand the messages your website colors are sending, you can use color to your advantage to direct your visitor around your web page, to encourage them to make a purchase decision, to create unity and coherence on your website and to create a unique brand for your business.
Red calls for action to be taken and directs visitors around your site
Green assists decision-making
Blue suggests credibility and honesty
Indigo implies sincerity and integrity

Alejandra, I love the pastel colors you chose! They are soothing and warm at the same time. I also love the header. I left you a comment in your website. Blessings!

I chose correctly then, purple and blues! This was done instinctively so it's nice to know the intuitive part of me appears to be working.
It is subjective as you say, for myself, the minute I see a lot of red I'm out of there. It makes me feel pressurized, like I'm being dragged where I'm not sure I want to go, if that makes sense! :)
Kathy, I am glad the tips above gave you confirmation regardin the choice you made. Somehow, I also got confirmation on the color scheme I chose for my website. You are right, we react in different ways to different colors. Blessings!

Thank you Hilda. The psychology of colours and the subliminal messages they send is useful to know when creating a website, just as it is in the creative arts.
All the best,
Brandon
You are welcome Brandon. Yes, I have read that colors are linked to subliminal messages and that this knowledge is used when creating advertisements. Blessings!

Great blog Hilda,
Color research has been going on forever, but I think that most of us just use colors that we like on our sites, without thinking about how it may affect our readers.
We also need to remember that men and women like different colors; therefore we need to understand our niche properly to choose the correct colors.
For CTA buttons it is a whole other story; use less distinct colors for big buttons to make them fit in better with your website, and use contrasting colors to make smaller buttons stand out more.
It has always fascinated me how people react to different colors, and how advertisers use this to their advantage.
Thanks Wayne. Yes, people react to colors in many different ways. I recently read a novel based on Vincent Van Goh's life and the way he perceived and lived colors was just amazing. Thanks for your feedback. Blessings!

Nice job Hilda, having taken many years of art classes myself, I agree. This was a good tip for everyone to know.
Figured out my email problem, somehow all my WA email was going into my spam folder, not sure how or why that happened.
Have a great weekend. Kim :))
Hello Kim. I still get all my email from WA in the spam tray. I am glad you found the tips here useful. Blessings!

Yahoo's suggestion is to select the email you don't want as spam and move it to the inbox, and they won't come is as spam any longer. So I did that and they are coming to my regular in box now.
Kim :))
Thanks Kim....the weird thing is that once in a while...one or two messages land in my inbox. Go figures... ;)
