You Are A Scam! Who Me?

As many of you might know my new Bootcamp site is quite young and as such we have next to no traffic as yet. So in an attempt to get it out and about I have been frequenting the various Make Money Online groups within Facebook.

These places feel a little unsavory, you get the occasional whiff of desperation and many of the clientele are jaded.

It feels a little like pimping out your blog to subject it to this kind of place but if Mohammed won't come to the mountain then the mountain must move.

So a few days ago it happened. After I kindly replied to a request on how to make money online a comment popped up "You are a scam".

Just like that it was there for the world to see!

I did a double take and asked the writer if the comment was indeed directed at me (thinking quite obviously they had made a mistake). She reaffirmed that yes indeed she thought both myself and WA were a scam.

I was taken a back but intrigued, because if there was something in my blog which rang alarm bells to her then I needed to know about it so I pressed for more information. Did you read my blog? Why would you say it was a scam?

"I have my reasons". WTF!! You are going to call scam when you haven't even read the blog,

and you know nothing of the platform or my good character!

I suggested to her that if she was going to be the scam police she might want to do her research first so as not to appear silly.

I did add that she had perhaps been looking at so many scams she couldn't recognise something legitimate when it was staring her in the face.

Surprisingly she did not take kindly to my well-meaning advice and retorted that she would report me as a scam (I am not entirely sure who too but anyhoo).

It was at this point I knew I should withdraw gracefully but she had left the door wide open and it just seemed the perfect time to use one of my new found paraprosdokians.

If you do not know what one is you can read my blog here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/heidiy/blog/paraprosdokian-n...

So without a pause I replied "Never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience".

She seemed decidedly unimpressed with my command of the English language and let forth with some top shelf language of her own!

Needless to say I shall not repeat them here so as not to subject my colleagues to such colourful terms!

I expect this won't be the first and last time I am accused of being a scam should I continue to frequent such places of ill-repute.

I did get a nice spike in my unique content clicks and one referral who never filled in their details and seems to have disappeared LOL.

So there you have it another first in my WA journey :) Have you had any experiences with being called a scam? How do you deal with them?

Not officially...but all my friends and family think it's a scam! I just have to prove them wrong.
Debbie

LOL and prove them wrong you will Debbie once you are an uber-successful affiliate marketer :)

My guess is your paraprosdokian was a bit (no way) above her intellect level so completely missed your desired intent.

I recommend Google + over Fb.

You certainly seem to get a different class of people in G+ I am using that also for every blog within a heap of different Communities as I am trying and get it out there as much as possible.

I am as gullible as most of them I expect cause if someone says I want a legit way to make money I think Ohh good I can help them here's all the info. Only to have them reply to Make $1000 in 30 seconds just reply ME or some such rubbish.

Yeah it's not as much fun when it goes straight over their head lol.

Thanks for your comment.

I haven't had that lovely experience yet. Way to handle it...

I'm sure I could have been a bit more diplomatic but by that stage I really couldn't be bothered arguing with stupid, I could see nothing I was going to say would sway her. Ahh well her lose!

Thanks for stopping by.

fantastic

It was a bit of fun I must say John, shouldn't really antagonise people. She sure did get offended even though I didn't actually call her an idiot I just suggested I didn't want to argue with her.

Thanks for your comment.

I have no doubt that i'm probably an evil person. however i truly feel our lives and other peoples just become better when we take them a little less seriously. My friend. You struck a mighty blow for the cause. For that i thank you.
I am of the firm opinion that we can no longer call ourselves civilized when we "for the sake of manners" allow people to behave without them.
You were my social justice warrior of the day. Again thanks.

Hahahaha love your little bird and the saying, too true, unfortunately.

I don't think I have ever been a "social justice warrior" I think I could get use to that title.

Thanks for having a read, if you are evil then so am I :)

thanks for sharing. The internet has one of everything that's for sure!!

LOL Thanks Happy, yep unfortunately I think there may be even more than one of these things!

You are on the right track because this is where you get to shine! You did everything right in my opinion because if someone called you and what you are promoting a scam, she had better backup her claim as to why she feels that way.

Since she refused to say why she thinks that, you can certainly say to anyone who might be watching and reading why WA is not a scam and for them to check it out for themselves as there is absolutely no risk to check it out and WA will never ask for a credit card.

As you do more reviews of other make money programs and promote WA in other areas, people are going to attack you doing exactly what that person did and might call you out as well for calling their make money program a scam or at least why you choose WA over some other program.

Exactly! I had hoped she had a reason for feeling it was a scam and then I could have helped her by addressing it and it would have been out in a public forum for all to see, but she just made herself look ridiculous by saying "I have my reasons".

Not to matter I got to link another one of my blogs in the process so that's two out there in the same thread LOL.

It takes all sorts to make the world go round. It is just so annoying when you know you have a wonderful product and they are so blinkered they think it's a scam without even looking.

Thanks for sharing Heidi!

It does sound like you had an interesting experience with your website visitor.

When you put yourself out there in the world, you are going to find some fruits and nuts! LOL

Ah yes I expect that's the price of shopping your blog around rather than waiting for visitors to come to you. Not to matter I like fruits and nuts, although I do rather it in chocolate than on my screen :)

Thanks for stopping by.

Those groups are utterly depressing. I will sometimes post a link to a blog post, and people will just write "INFO" underneath. Um excuse me, the information is provided within the link. If you can't be stuffed even reading it then I'm not going to waste my time.

I feel like I post good information for people about legitimate money making opportunities in those groups, but no one is interested if:
a/ there is any real effort involved
b/ they are not getting money for doing stupid crap like colouring in or taking selfies
c/ they can't just spam their friends so they can get quick referral money.

The posts that get comments and people interested are absolute garbage like the "Make money processing emails" ones. The ones that are typically (and obviously) fake through and through.

Ugh you can see that I've had similar experiences to you in those groups. Sigh.

Yep you do have to wade through some rubbish that's for sure but my unique content clicks do seem to go up the days I get stuck in and reply to people with my blog attached so until my site gets some traffic I think I will do a few days here and there.

It is depressing and just a bit annoying as you say, I see them responding INFO on obvious scams but when you put up a blog with all the information so they can read and get a real honest feel for WA they don't even read it!!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience.

Wow, disconcerting to say the least. Sounds as if you handled it well.

I probably could have handled it better lol, it was so ridiculous it felt a bit surreal actually. I am so proud of what we do here I just couldn't believe anyone would think it was a scam.

Some of those with limited education and self-esteem are filled with hate and jealousy that they will scream at the first thing that looks as if it might succeed. The often run with a pack.
Jerry

I did wonder if the pack were following hot on her heels Jerry, luckily she appeared to be a lone wolf :) Thanks for your comment.
