Hi - in my opinion, a direct quote should be no more than one sentence, even if you cite the source.
Google will simply see it as duplicate content and is unlikely to rank a post highly if it contains any material already published elsewhere.
Hi - yes, Google uses optical character recognition to read the text in an image.
So, unfortunately, adding potential duplicate content to an image won't work!
Looks like you are well covered here with some excellent advice, and guidance by Abie.
I agree that I would put this passage into your own unique voice/ words. The only real time I use a quote is when it from a very authoritative source — such as scientific or academic study.
