The SWAG Challenge
Two things that got me thinking this morning about a period in my martial arts training and my progress in that arena. When I was challenging for my third Dan Black Belt, I failed it twice. The first time was in Canada and the second time in Japan. Both times in front of the style I practice. When I was being debriefed by him and the head of the style in Canada I was asked did I think my evaluation was fair? My response was I did not have time to train, given that I was teaching and training to compete. Mr. Chitose then asked me if I could not find 30 minutes out of each day to practice something? The third attempt was a charm and I was successful. From then I have always found at least 30 minutes that I can use doing something that I need to do.
This morning I read a fellow SWAG member’s blog concerning the goals set by Kyle for the first month. The person was not complaining, or finding excuses, just stating that the goals were very challenging and I think most of us agree. The second thing was a quote on Twitter, that captures all of the above and should be our mantra.
“Don't make excuses for why you can't get it done. Focus on all the reasons why you must make it happen.”
Have a great weekend.

Hi harvey,
Thanks for your inspirational insite to making things happen even when we are extremely "busy" in life.
I find with myself it is a matter of using time in the proper manner according to priorities.
It looks like I am spending time on things that should be number 18 instead of number 1 or 2.
This got me thinking on how to prioritise .
Thanks again.

Thank you Harvey for sharing this great article. There is no excuse for not having our written mini daily goals done.
Thanks Tadeusz, we should try to at least get the majority of things accomplished. Our day to day existence does not stop, but by setting priorities we can get the majority completed.
Hi Harvey, oops I hit the wrong key. I agree with you on that. My motto has always been, just do it. Thanks for your post. It is good to be reminded of this from time to time. :-) Frank
Great life lesson, great (and well needed, at least by me!) connection to WA!
Thanks, Harvey,
Tim
Wow, Harvey. Really enjoyed your story and the moral at the end of it. Thanks for sharing. A great lesson. Making it happen.
Thank you Lauren, it is funny how points in our life’s journey become learning points as we age.
A nice quote and something we all should strive to do. The SWAG challenge is just that a challenge. If it was easy to achieve it would not be a challenge. I still have lots to do but am determined to get it all done to the best of my ability.
We signed up for a year and the challenges may get harder so falling behind Now isn’t really an option for any of us.
Wishing you every success
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen
I am not certain if any of us are really falling behind, it is just a matter of how you get things done. There are those who have excellent organizational skills and will achieve the set goals in the time allocated. Others tend to work better under pressure. Both will achieve their goals but not in the same way. It is actually fun to see how I am reacting to the challenge. Thanks for sharing your view, I enjoyed reading it.
Thanks Jeff, I now know we can, but it took a valuable question for me to see that. Have a great weekend
