Like Writing to A Friend

JDunyon recently asked about sharing WA with friends. It triggered the idea for this post...

When I first joined WA, I felt this sense of joy and wonderment I hadn't experienced in a long time. There was so much to explore and discover here and I think I had a smile on my face that would not quit. (Well hey, isn't "not quitting" the whole point?). I signed up as a premium member before the 7 day trial period ended so I could get that discount, but truth be told, it would have been worth joining WA, even if I didn't make the deadline.

I found myself talking about WA incessantly to several friends and acquaintances during those first few months. After one of them asked me to email her more information about it, I wrote her a nice email and included my affiliate link. Later that day, I got an email notification that she had signed up for a free account. The next time someone asked, I thought, "Jeeez, do I really want to type all of that again?" Then it dawned on me that I probably had a copy of the email I had sent to my other friend in my Sent Messages folder. After all, what could be a better way of getting someone to sign up than the way you would write to a friend?

So, I found that email that I had written to friend number one, then copied and pasted into an email for friend number 2. I edited parts of it to make it personal, of course, but most of the typing was already done for the most part.

Eventually, four people signed up this way, so far. Only one has gone premium, so now I only have 299 to go to get to Las Vegas :-)

My goal is a compile a nice big mailing list and use that first email as a swipe file. It reads as if I'm writing from one friend to another, because that's the way it started in the first place. So that's my hint to you....

If you're looking to sign up some affiliates using email, write about WA just like you would write about something that you'd want to tell a good friend about.
