what is the difference password protected and private?

Hi Gregory,
Looks like you already have your answer. I actually thought they were the same.
Learned something today,
Kathi

I have used both on my site.

Private hides the content from the public completely. It is for your eyes only (or for those who have permission to log in to your site to view it).

Password Protect - is not visible to the public. Instead a message appears: "Please enter your password".

If your site has multiple admins, they can see and do everything, including making your private post public - so be careful.

HI Gregory, I think Ai1 provided a good response.

Thanks! I believe the answer came from techbound with the help of Al1

Great to hear!

Wayne

Both same. It's only you have the access.

Thanks! Is there a way to tie all pages to a site to a password from the home pages and when one entered thru home page can get to all pages. But if one googles and happens to find a page (right now will be backed doored into the site without a password). How do one prevent the back door?

Gregory, Let's ask Tony to clarify. Pls wait . I'll send message to Tony

I will read Tony's reply later this morning. Thanks for a quick reply.

If I understand your follow up question, you are describing a membership plugin. There is a free plugin called S2Member. The plugin gives you the ability to assign levels to your various pages. If you want some pages available via Google search, you can do this via the plugin.

Best Regards,
Jim

Thanks! I will look into that and let you know the results.

It sounds like you need a membership plugin.

Not really sure why you would want to do that.

You can setup passwords for posts from within Wordpress editor.
Would that help you?

I have a site with several pages. I want to control who sees what from the start of the site or if one try's to back door the site.

Marion is correct.

You got me thinking! I really do not know the answer to that question. I am interested to see that answer. Hope one of the experts will answer your question.

The site is password protected and need option to logout of site manually or forced out after say one hour of no clicks.

Hey Gregory,

Have you tried Google searching for a resolve?
If it's a membership site, be sure to use that in the query you Google search.

Is this your website here at WA. If it is, you can have site support unlock it.
