I have had limited success with facebook groups.
No sales from that venue but did obtain connections
for building my list.

It depends, as William says, on what you are posting, and the group you are posting to, but generally speaking, posting to FB groups is not a waste of time.

I post to groups because, like me, I think folks skim a post if it catches the attention. Often a post is liked or shared which exposes the site to more people potentially leading to more sales. But, in my opinion, posting to facebook shouldn't take up much time.

I used to avoid social media because im so hopeless there, it`s like dancing on 2 left foot, but after giving it a full week, I`m starting to see a real difference on my website traffic so I`d say it`s worth spending some time in social media.

I depends on a number of variables:

1) What you are promoting
2) The specific post/content
3) The type of Group
4) The structure of the Group and what the typical posts to it are
5) The "action" you are wanting

When I change anything on my website I invite my G+,FB, Twitter, Linkedin and pInterest followers to check it out. 15-30 minutes a day on SM is worth you time.

FB groups WORK and bring a lot of traffic!!!!
