I have received the below from 2 different affiliate applications (def in my niche). Anyone else have experience with this or advice? Thanks!

Because of personal experience, I would have to agree with Wendy.
Calling and asking is never a bad move either. Here, patience is the key.
keep your head up and keep asking. try to link your niche to the affiliate sites and some you are asking to explain
Hi. I really think the biggest reason you were declined is because your website is brand new and doesn't have the amount of content on it that they want. This happens a lot.
If I were you, I would keep writing and adding good content to my site. Then, in 30 days, apply again. :)
You are probably right! I have a list of 20 post ideas... Ill work on those and getting traffic
I agree it is all about content they want a lot of it . Once you do that I would say try Amazon I pretty much got them right away because I all ready had an amazon account so that was quick. Then Google AdSense that one takes a bit more effort and you have to have content and follow there guidelines but you get money if they just click your ad. If you want to look at my sites they are http://puzzleparents.com and http://quadcopters4u.com Those are the 2 affiliates I have right now. You also can be an affiliate for WA. Just click there affiliate program link to the left of this. I hope this helps.

Specifically, If I'm writing a post on online child learning activities and one component is free coloring pages... Is it going to hurt my google ranking if I put in 5 or so non
I did a bit of research on this and also asked Kyle about it. So, here's the thing. If you put 5 or so links to your site, they won't affect your ranking, as Leo already stated. But they could cost you some of your hard earned traffic, even if you make the links open in new tab or window.
Here's what I suggest. I believe these sites are relevant to your niche, so if you want to link to them, do that. But try to make these sites link back to you, especially If they're high quality sites with lots of traffic. This will give your site rank a boost and drive traffic to your site. Don't be afraid to get in contact with them. Make friends with your competitors.
I'll be interested to focus on this because on my site I both review scams and post legitimate work from home jobs; as in transcription jobs, health jobs, moderator jobs, etc. However, instead of putting this all on One Page with a Bunch of links to company websites INSTEAD... I opted to make a category list (not linked to anything) of the types of jobs I am/will be be posting and am instead going to do a single post about each job offered. As in I will review http://quicktate.com and mention them as a legitimate company that offers online transcription work.

Yes it does. With external links you're pointing people away from your site and this makes it not so relevant. Don't do that in the early stages of your site, before it gets some trust.
I am a novice on this advice, but I do know that if I am afraid I am sending someone away from my site, another words, if the link is not related to me in some beneficial way; ie sending them to a non-affiliated site, then when I click to hyperlink on wordpress, I would select "open link in a new tab". IMHO :O)
This means my webpage stays open while they visit the other site.
Yes I am sure - if these are links are to things that are related to your post you're fine.
Where things could come into question would be if you had a bunch of affiliate links to different products to different sites Google is not a big fan of that - and could see it as a spammy post.
I would also be sure to make the links open into a new browser window this way you don't really send people away from your site
I'm quite sure Kyle mentioned in one of the lessons that posting too much external links too early in the process is not advisable. But never mind, listen to Leo. He knows, he can't be wrong. :)
What Kyle was talking about was not to worry about having affiliate links on your site right away until you have traffic coming to your site.
Which makes sense - you could have all the affiliate links you want, but if no one is coming to your site - they are useless.
It has nothing to do with affecting your SEO.

Will it hurt my google rankings if I have my site setup so that when a menu item is clicked on there is content and then all posts from that category also on that page?
If you have a rel="canonical" tag set up on each post so that it points to the main post URL like in the example: http://www.yoursite.com/post then you should be fine. There are plugins that enable you to do this such as SEO by Yoast. If you set this up correctly then you should avoid any duplicate content penalties.

I mean, posts in a certain category would be included within a page. Therefore, when they are first posted, they would be on the main page but they would then remain on another page over time.
If I understand you right, that is the normal way that automaticly happen.. My main page shows the heading and a little bit of the text of all my posts, and if people click the heading it takes them to the post they want to see. That does not mean that your post is posted on two different pages/posts. My theme do this automaticly and it does not affect your google ranking
No this is slightly different. I have a plug-in that will put posts in certain categories below static text on a page as well as on home page when they are first posted

Affiliate links are considered the link you are getting commission from. Outbound and inbound links are separate just do not use too many of these either.
Thanks Tommy, what would be "too many" outbound links? A lot of my content involves mentioning resources.
