What's Your Superpower?

My favorite superhero is Daredevil!

He's a blind lawyer who fights for justice during the day and uses a 6th sense to fight criminals at night.

Similarly, in real life there are examples like Beethoven and Napoleon Hill's (famous author of the book "Think and Grow Rich") son who was born deaf and without ears and went on to help create hearing aids and have a very successful and fulfilling life.

We all have something that makes us unique, a superpower that no one else has, but we can't see it because we accept it as part of ourselves and sometimes we see it as a shortcoming.

Yesterday I mentioned this in my post "Choosing a Niche or Changing Niches", today I'd like to dig deeper into this concept.

Why's this important?

Understanding what makes you unique could also be what makes your business special or ease the choice of a Niche.

Why would someone follow your recommendation or buy your product instead of someone else's? Just because you rank an article on page one of Google?

You'll definitely get some sales, but you're no different and don't stand out.

It's very easy to think about the amount of competition out there and get discouraged, but no one can compete with YOU!

Let's say you love fitness, so you decide to start a fitness blog, but there are so many fitness blogs out there...

Indeed, and you shouldn't start a fitness blog unless you have something different to apply to it. But look how this girl made a fitness business unique.

She was very passioned about fitness but because of her small stature, she faced obstacles other people don't. She adjusted some exercises to herself and started posting on Instagram tips of what she was doing.

She started creating a huge following and decided to make something out of it, so she created a one-week workout for petite women and offered it for free.

People that were following her and loved her tips started subscribing to her email list.

She started working on completing that one-week program and making it a longer one, when she was done, she launched it as a course and emailed it to her list.

These people already loved her and had something in common with her - their size - so the conversion rate was over the charts. More than 40% of her list bought the course.

From this alone she managed to make full salary.

She didn't let her small size stop her from working out, instead she made that her Unique Value Proposition (UVP).

How can you find your Superpower?

Think about the times that other people told you "you're really good at that" or that you thought to yourself "why can't they see/do this, it's so easy", your superpower lies therein.

What can you do that others can't or won't?

What do you love to do that others find strange or uncommon?

Recently, my wife asked me, "but what's my superpower? I am no different from anyone else".

And I tried to answer it, but I'm biased and she doesn't listen much to what I say...

Later that same day, she was dealing with a homeschooling group she created and told me, "I'm really good at this thing of organizing and mediating people".

"That's your superpower" - I said.

But she still couldn't see it and asked me "But how can I make this a business?"

She often complains than she doesn't like and isn't good at writing.

So I advised her to create a website and get other people to write articles there, with different points of view and experiences on the subject.

Next question was - "but why would anyone post stuff on my website?"

"If you give them a reason to, they will" - I answered.

I won't explain here all the business plan I gave her, but I think you get my point.

There are two elements you need to put together - an interest and a unique quality, and you have yourself a unique niche with no existing competition and a possible dedicated following.

Go out there and be yourself, be unique and have fun doing it!

Have an amazing day!

Thanks for your thoughtful article, and pointing me toward this and "Choosing a Niche". I resonated with your discussion comment about the complexities of right/left brain communication (and with your wife's super power - I used to run a homeschool/unschool co-op too!).

I think your advice to "be yourself, be unique and have fun doing it!", is very important - people can smell authenticity and inauthenticity on one another. Like the petri-dish bands the music industry concocts - they have the technical vocal/musical skills, but often not the heart that many performers from previous eras had. I've got to assume being genuine is part of what makes people truly successful.

But then, we're all multi-faceted and complicated (e.g. that duality you mentioned - "I feel very strongly but think and live logically, act emotionally but rationalise everything").

So I think it's not just about being authentic, but also
- what do I want to give,
- to whom do I want to give it, and
- who do I want to BE for them, i.e. what aspect(s) of myself or ways of BEing do I want them to call forth from me (e.g. an entertainer, a cheerleader, a teacher, a mirror, a conscience, that friend whose shoulder they cry on or that friend who's always up for a party...)

Even as I'm surely sounding like my niche should be over-thinkers, self-help addicts and bellybutton-gazers... I've also been obsessed with whoopee cushions and fake poop since childhood, and fixated on makeshift bongs and pipes since my 20's, and I adore Monty Python and all of Christopher Guest's movies.

So I don't have an answer for myself yet, but it's good to remind myself that I can have multiple niches/sites - and I can just jump in somewhere and start swimming. Thanks! :)

Such wisdom Whoop!

I absolutely agree that the music industry has lost its heart and I've hidden from it. I couldn't tell you more than 5 artist names after the year 2000...

I agree that you should just swim a little and check the temperature of the water. The best way to start is to start!

All the best, and have fun!

And thank you for your comment.

Well, now I have to figure out just how to explain my superpower on paper... LOL!
I do have some advice for your wife. Have her read a book called The Power of Flow. A tad esoteric, but worth it.
Shaunna 😎

If it's esoteric I think it'll work for her, I'll pass the message.

Thanks a lot Shaunna!

Hi Fran - easier sadi than done, as your wife has proved. It's incredibly difficult to see this in yourself. I can't.

I asked a friend if I had a superpower. He said: "Yes, you're a Level 1 Mage with 3 spells and 16 hit points."

True!

I have asked him to consider the question outside the realms of D&D. I am still waiting for his reply.

Ian

I understand that Ian.

Your friend's answer is funny but there might something to learn out of it.

I played computer games all my life and everytime I played an RPG, my character choices are similar. I can read a lot out of it.

I always chose hybrid type classes, where I am can face the battle but also heal my team.

Even in sports my positions were similar, defense but I was never happy as a keeper.

Meditate on that. ;)

:-)

Blimey! That's the sort of character I choose although we play face to face! And one ability includes one of my (past) passions :-) In charater generation we probably angle towards those things that interest us. A sort of mini self- psychological evaluation! :-)

Ian

We are what we think we are, my friend.

Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't - you';re right!
:-)
Ian

Henry Ford! ;)

You can have any colour as long as it's black!

Shit, at least you're a mage! You could be a beggar!

I'm with Fran, I always play a hybrid class.

That is irrelevant here, though.

He is right, we all have a super power.

Think of the statistical probability of you not even existing...

haha

it is much greater than that of you existing!

So have some faith in yourself and take this time to really let yourself shine!

You've got it in you.

The question is, will you let it out?

:-)
If I could find it I would!
Ian

You will. Count with my help anytime.

Thank you, Fran but I'm still searching...
Ian

Great advice - I really enjoy the way you have written this Fran/
Thank you and blessings
Louise

Thanks a lot Louise. It means a lot from you, I always enjoy your writing and thoughts.

I actually just read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill earlier today!

I had just read "Lead the Field" by Earl Nightingale and he mentioned Napoleon Hill, so I checked him out.

I have also been having similar question to your wife myself.

I think it is strange and fortunate to see your blog post after reading those books and having similar questions to your wife.

Perhaps I was meant to read this? I don't know haha

Anyways, great post, very thought provoking! Thank you for sharing it with us, I appreciate it!

The universe has it's ways. Earl Nightingale also says something about setting your goals and a higher power will handle the rest.

I hope my post manage to sprite some thoughts and ideas to help you.

Thanks for your feedback.

Have an awesome day and have fun.

You really got me thinking my friend.

You're a very cool cat and I like the way you think.

What is it?

"We've got to program out sub-conscious mind"?

I've been a "scientific" thinker my whole life, but that does not work as well in the world of business.

It seems that something.... more, is required here.

The "6th sense" that Hill speaks of?

Perhaps that is it!

I do not know!

But I like your post, your attitude, and your approach to business either way!

Keep up the inspiration my friend, I appreciate it!

Let's all find "the key" in our journey!

Thanks Caleb.

Like you, I have trouble with my left and right brain communication. I feel very strongly but think and live logically, act emotionally but rationalise everything...

I've always been my own biggest challenge.

I struggle to apply emotional words to my writing and I know I need to. That might be one of the reasons you identify with it, it's all facts and reason. Hehe.

Recently, Nathalie has given me the advice to use examples as it helps people like her, opposite to me, understand better. I'm trying to do that.

Another thing I'm trying to do with these daily posts is put out all the information I've absorbed in the last year and a half (which is an absurd amount), and maybe help someone in the process, while helping myself because it does me no good up here.

About programming our subconscious mind, have a look at the book "The New Psycho-Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz and Dan Kennedy, I'm sure you'll love it.

I really appreciate your comments.

Thank you!

You'd better believe I'm going to take a look at those recommendations.

By the way, Natalie is a beautiful name.

My older brother's girlfriend is named "Natalie" she creates paintings that I adore.

She is much more "emotional" but we get along well!

Perhaps it is the same with your Natalie?

Either way: your Natalie is correct.

At least, I agree with her assertions.

There is wisdom she has that we lack! haha

I, for one, find your posts informative and worth reading!

I, like you, have a brain full of information.

At this point, it seems, we both seek to 'dump' that information out!

But is it dumping as much as it is "planting seeds?"

I do not know...

But what we have learned is valuable!

It took time and effort to acquire, resources that are not inexpensive.

What we do is valuable and necessary.

It is my estimation that we are helping a great deal more than hindering...

So let us continue!

also:

I appreciate your comments as well!

Thank you, my friend!

Nathalie is a member here at WA. MegaWealthy9, have a look at her posts, I enjoy them a lot.

I'm hoping some seeds are being planted, we shall see...

I'm going to produce some work now.

Have a great day my friend.
