5 Points to Look at Before Publishing a New Post
On WA we talk a lot about SEO, keywords, ranking, etc. and what to look at before publishing a post. For me personally there are 5 points to look at before publishing a new post, in that order.
- Publish Relevant Content
Quality content is the number one driver. There is no substitute for great content. Create it specifically for your intended readers. This will increase site traffic and improve your site’s authority.
For each page on your site identify a keyword phrase. Think about how your readers would search for this page, if they wanted to revisit it or send the link to their friends. Let’s say you are doing a post on vacation on the Maldives, make sure to use “vacation on the Maldives” in your headline. E.g.: “5 days’ vacation on the Maldives for you and your partner”. Then place “vacation on the Maldives” throughout the page. At least one time in the opening and closing paragraphs and no more than 4 times in the remaining content.
Don’t overdo it. Remember, you are writing for your readers and not for the search engines. - Update Your Content Regularly
This is important too, because regularly updated content is viewed by the search engines as one of the best indicators of a site’s relevancy. So make sure to keep your content fresh. - Metadata
Each page should include Metadata. InWordPress the Metadata can be inserted at the bottom of the page you are editing. The Metadata consist of three parts:- Title
It is the title of your page which is displayed by the search engines - Description
It is a short description of what your page is about and which is displayed by the search engines below the title. - Keywords
They are the search phrases that people type when they want to find something about your niche.
- Title
- Have relevant links
Create relevant links. Instead of having“click here” links, write out the name of the destination. “Click here” has no search engine value, whereas “Order your Vacation on the Maldives here” is rich with keywords. This will improve your search engine rankings as well as the ranking of the page you are linking to. - Use alt tags
Always add alt tags to your pictures and videos. They allow search engines to locate your page. In WordPress this can be done in the Media Library for each picture or video.
I hope this short description of the five points to look at before publishing a new post is of help. Looking for your comments.

I'm still new so I don't know what Meta Data is, can you explain it a little more how to create it. Thank you
My pleasure, Nancy! Metadata are a set of data that describes and gives information about other data. At the bottom of the page you create you can insert your Metadata (see Pic 1) Once you publish your page and the search engines found it you will see your title and your description online (see Pic 2). The Keywords are phrases, which helps the search engine to find your page by comparing your phrases with what people are asking.
I hope I could give you some help.
You're welcome, Teresa! For me these are the most important points.

Great pointers, thank you! So glad I actually understand what you're talking about - the difference a week and a half make, aha!
