Is Whoisguard Worth It? Protect Your Private Information.

hen you purchase a new domain name, Namecheap (I don't know about others) usually adds their Whoisguard service as a bonus. You get it for free for one full year.

Because it is free, you just take it and that's it. You forget it.

Now, after that one year has passed, they mail you and ask if you want to renew their Whoisguard service.

So the question arises - I Whoisguard Worth it?

Should I use Whoisguard?

How does it help me?

That is what happened to me. I had no idea.

I asked somebody and he answered that it was not needed. Therefore, I dropped it.

However, now I think it is better to have it. And because it's not expensive, I better purchase it.

Let me explain and see if you agree.

When you purchase a new domain name, Namecheap (probably other domain name registrars too), they require you to fill in all your personal information:

your name, your address, phone no, email, etc.

The problem is that all that information is easily and freely accessible, when you don't use Whoisguard (or a similar service).

I give you an example:

Go to http://checkpagerank.net/ and type the URL of your site. After that, hit "Check Domain"

Try it out. Costs you nothing.

They take their time to analyze your site. Then, they provide you the results.

When you scroll right to the bottom, you see whether your personal information is protected or not.

If it is not protected, you will see something like this:

In fact, the list is way longer and it publishes your private information quite a few times.

Do you like it?

I leave you to answer.

However, if your personal information is protected, the only thing you see is something like this (to give you an example, I pick an already protected site):

That's what you will see.

Bottom line:

Try it out. See if your personal information shows up. If it does, probably you want to protect yourself, right?

You don't want your personal address or phone number being public, do you?

That's why they recommend to use Whoisguard - to protect your personal information.

Luckily, it is NOT expensive. Look:

Let's do the numbers. 2.65 a year makes 0.007 cents a day. For your protection.

Therefore, is Whoisguard worth it?

I think so.

Just the information I needed. Thanks!

Great if you found the post helpful. I am happy to hear that. Thank God!

I got a noticed just now from namecheap that mine was running out- came to find out in WA and found this. Very helpful, thanks! I will be sticking with it!

Is this also necessery if we get our domain from WA, as it is now possible?

No, sir. They give you all the protection. If you read Kyle's recent article on the issue (https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/kyle/blog/domain-privacy-protection-closing-the-hole-to-thievery) Kyle writes:

"We make EVERY domain, by default, completely private and protected against solicitors and scammers. In fact, we include everything you need in the domain costs, privacy, domain protection, email, auto dns, and next year price guarantee."

Exceptional, isn't it?

Thank you!

Yes, WhoisGuard is included within the daomins you buy via WA, I have checked it. It says:
Name: REGISTRATION PRIVATE
Organization: DOMAIN SHIELD

Fine, well done guys ;-)

If you don't mind that anyone will know your residence and phone #, save 3 bucks a year.

you bet it is all the best Max

It's definitely worth it if you ask me!

I think it's very well worth it. Kyle recently did a post on the importance of securing your domain: Cheers!

Wow, I did not notice it before. He has written in just couple of days ago.

Thank you for sharing, Jurgen.

You're welcome Egon. I only saw that post because Kyle mentioned it on Facebook :)

Cheers!

Hi - I don't personally care. I like to be transparent about my online endeavours.

But that said, I am web savvy - and know what a spam email is, and can quickly chuck it in the spam folder without worrying about the impending doom that will befall me if I ignore it.

If you are worried though, then go get Whoisguard.

Cheers, Mark

Thank you for the feedback, Mark.

Personally, I don't care so much about spam email, I can handle them too.

However, I don't like that my personal home address, etc. is accessible to everyone.

Once I reviewed some online product and I don't remember how they got my personal phone number. But they kept calling me (from UK) offering me their product.

It was so annoying but they were so persistent.

When we returned to Indonesia, I threw away my hp no and only that way got rid of them.

Also, it is not only about me. I rather wrote it to help those who might be concerned with the same issues.

Anyway, thank you again for your feedback. It was good :)

Hi Egon - sorry if I've mislead anyone - I'm not saying that it's not important, it really is - and your post sums it up perfectly.

For me, I don't say anything on any of my websites that I wouldn't say face to face with someone, and if I want to avoid spam calls (spam emails I can handle easily), then I just give them the good old 0123 456 7890 :)

Cheers, Mark
