Pyramid Schemes?

I am noticing a lot of misinformation when I am doing research on different companies and programs. I see quite a few bloggers who are writing on a subject they know little about. I feel the need to share my thoughts on Network Marketing, better known as Multi-Level-Marketing.

Pyramid scheme is a horrible label to put on a legitimate business, so please use diligently.

In the illegal pyramid test, the form of an organization does not determine legality. If it did, most industries and organizations, as well as the government would be illegal because all have a pyramid structure.

An unlawful pyramid scheme delivers no products or services, and pays according to the number of recruits. Lawful network marketing programs offer quality goods or services that are sold to clients. Enlisting new members allows for increased income based on the volume of sales, with team sales volume, not the number of recruits, being the important factor in calculating revenue. Legitimate network marketing companies adhere to the laws, including publishing average income statistics, no inventory requirements, and refund options.

There a many people that bad mouth MLM’s because they, themselves failed, or someone they know failed, and blamed the company for them failing. What they don’t mentioned is that they didn’t treat it like a real business and therefore put no effort into it, or gave up in the first 90 days. One reason this occurs regularly is because of the low startup cost. If these same people risked $500,000 on a brick and mortar business I’m betting they would try longer than 90 days to make it work. Many bloggers, Amazon associates, and other home business owners don't do well or quit too, but you don't hear folks saying blogging and Amazon don't work.

I am not expressing my opinion as a successful network marketer. I joined one as an independent representative and got a total of one person on my team. I gave up because it was a lot more work than I bargained for. It is a great company and I have met some very successful REAL people that live in my state, that have retired at their 9-5, and just promote their MLM. One college student I know that lives in Lincoln, Ne doesn’t work. He makes $4,000 a month from the residual income he collects from the hard work he put in at the beginning of his network marketing career. Is $4,000 a month rich? No, but he says it’s plenty for him not to have to work for someone else, on someone else’s schedule, and he can play video games all day long if he wants!

Treat what you’re doing as a business and learn from that people that have succeeded.
