What WA means to me!
I know that all of us are wanting to make money. Most of us want the money now. However, if we put things into perspective, you will see that time doesn't matter. My mom used to have a saying "anything worth doing is worth doing right!"
My dad and I spent a lot of time talking about WA and the sites and what I am actually doing. It's nice to have someone outside of everything giving you a perspective.
Here is the analogy that my dad used for me. If you were to start a business, any business, say a retail store. You don't just say "Wham!" here is my store! Developing a business requires stepping stones. You have to first plan. Decide what you will be selling. Determine who your customers are going to be. Who do you want shopping at your store? What will it take to keep them coming back to your store once you have it open?
Once you have a good idea of what you are going to do. You have the planning put aside and you have a very good road map of where you want to go. You have lined up all the steps you need to do to get to the end result.
Now, you start building your pieces one by one. It's a layered affect. You have your foundation, which includes your plan. You have your contractors ready to start building your foundation of your store. You get the walls up, the roof, the shelves, the product and your advertising. The list could go on and on.
Opening Day! Woot! All your planning paid off and your store is now open. Your anxious and excited and you can't wait to see if your business is going to be profitable. Things may be slow at first because it takes time to get word of mouth out into the public. Curious people will stop by to see what the new store is all about. They tell their friends and it slowly builds. Then one day, you wake up and dang! You've made some money! YES! Your hard work is finally paying off.
So, how does this all relate to WA and what we are all doing here?
Planning: Kyle and Carson teach us in Course 1 everything we need to know to plan along with planning and the beginning of our road map. They get us started with designing our website to help us understand what we are going to need to do to build a very good foundation for our business. This also answers our question "who?" Who are we trying to reach? Who is our customer?
Building: In Course 2, they expand on our plan and road map so that we start to get a better picture of where we are going and why we are doing what we are doing. They get us to think about what it is we are trying to do and start thinking about our walls, roof and shelves. They discuss our content and how it will effect the outcome of our business. This answers our questions What and Why.
Content: Course 3 and 4 expand on our business and get it ready for the grand opening. We now have our foundation, our store and our product. It's time to start advertising. Time to get the word of mouth out there. These courses offer everything we need to know on getting the word of mouth out there and different areas we can approach.
I know this turned into a long post, but I felt in order to answer Kyle's question it was needed. There are no get rich quick schemes out there. Sure, once in a while someone may get lucky and something work for them, but usually they can't duplicate.
How does this all apply to us here at WA? We are building our business one step at a time. How long will it take to make money? That all depends on you. How hard are you willing to work, to get from point A to point B. Some areas of the road map may go quickly for you and others will be harder. Just take action and keep going! Don't give up!

Very nice post! Love the analysis on WA and hopefully will keep other members motivated to keep going. You are very right in saying that building a website is a journey and will take a while before generating any sales. I think that's why its important to build your first site around a passion. It won't feel like real work because you are having so much fun building it :)
I agree with you. I had a hard time coming up with something I am passionate about and use it. It's been driving me crazy. Two false starts and I think I finally hit home. We will see.
One step at a time is right! And they should be careful steps, directed steps and checked steps, by the community.
You get so much more than just wanting to make money from WA the chance to learn how to do everything the right way, help from the community. I've never seen a place quite as good as this on the internet before
Really like this post. It's to the point and so very true. It's NOT a get rich quick scheme and we must treat it as a business. Good advice! Thanks. Debbi
I have told myself this before at those times when I get discourage. thanks for the reminder. The most important thing is staying
Charlotte, I know what you mean. I am definitely my worst enemy! I talk myself out of stuff so fast it isnt funny!
Great post and I agree with it I am working my way through course 3 have enjoyed every minute of training and loved all the help members give , see you at opening day thanks for sharing
Great posts, lessons and reminders :-) Your dad sounds like a very smart man, it must be nice to have someone on the outside to talk to you and support you , everyone I know scoff at the idea of making money on the internet and don't support it at all. I am doing it on my own on the outside, but on the inside ( here at WA) I have more than enough support and encouragement :=) great post, thanks for sharing.

I knew this stuff, but you have articulated it very well, and that is helpful to read back over...good job, Andy
Thank you Andy
