Comment V Site Feedback Again.
I recently did some site feedback in WA for a fellow members Website. The site was pretty good, and I only had some suggestions for her paragraphs, which she appreciated the feedback on. Whilst I was on the site looking at it, I noticed that some WA members had offered comments on her website, but they were in fact Website feedback. let her know that the comments left, were site feedback, which she appreciated the point.
I am seeing a lot more of this confusion with feedback versus comments in various blogs!
My understanding of website feedback and website comments is this:-
Website feedback, is viewing the website, and offering your thoughts on website set-up, use of images, website layout etc. and offering suggestions on how the website owner may wish to improve their website, so it is most appealing to visitors. This can help the website owner with Site health, and also improving their website appeal, therefore approving their number of visitors, and their rankings in google.
Website comments, is another animal altogether. When you write blogs or posts and pages on your website, you wish to engage the reader/ visitor to comment on your content, and/or ask any questions about your chosen niche etc. Once you engage this visitor, you can then reply to them, and create a relationship with the visitor. The idea is to help and engage your visitor with your website. This creates, better site health, better trust, and can improve rankings in google and attract more visitors to your website. So in conclusion, website comments are not feedback on the layout or set-up of your website, but engaging in conversation with you, on your chosen niche content.
I hope I understand this correctly, and that others will also take this on board when they are deciding on whether they are offering Feedback or comments.
I would appreciate thoughts on this subject, if you have time.

I'm quite sick of it to be honest...having to disapprove comments because they're feedbacks.
Also often a mixture of the two. Contributors comment about the content, then start talking about my menu layout etc.
Imagine leaving a comment on latest news e.g. BBC website, saying you love their menu bar...
Yes Ray I have had to delete comments that relate to my website layout rather than reading my actual content and commenting on the subject! Cheers, Lisa
It needs stating time and again doesn't it? I wonder how many times it will take until people know the difference :)
It would be nice if there was a training on how to use the WA site. I mean info you receive in an email and then a page here with definitions and how-tos. It wouldn't completely fix the problem, but it might help.
Here is more on the topic, hope you find it helpful: Feedback VS Comments. so is there REALLY a difference?
Good reminder. I'm clear what the difference is between post comments and website feedback, but i have a situation regarding comments/ feedback. I would prefer comments on my posts, rather than feedback on site layout, fonts etc. So i'm not requesting website feedback, but this is impacting site health! Arrgh. I would rather use my credits for post comments - perhaps credits should be used as we choose and overall site health improves whether it's comment or feedback....just a thought. Have a good day. Maggie
You do have it right. And for the comments, folks, I can spot a WA review a mile away. We are trying to comment, but we know the score so the comments have a formal and odd sound. I'm not sure how to fix it, cause I don't want to write, "Wow, I'm interested and will check this out," like I haven't already. To me that would be dishonest. Any suggestions? I can do Feedback really well tho...
I agree with you.. it's hard to comment or even read on something you don't have any interest on.
I only leave a comment if I am interested in the subject matter of the post and can contribute to the discussions. Website feedback is very helpful but in the the website feedback area of WA.
You got it exactly right. You shouldn't be critiquing the web design or choice of font in someone's comment box on their niche site. If someone is blogging about coin collecting, you should ask a question or leave a comment about coins. Not, "How did you create that pop up opt-in window?"
I have been seeing more and more confusions about this lately, as well. I know we can often use feedback and comments interchangeably, but in the WA realm, they are 2 different things. If anyone ever forgets what is what, the description is underneath each link.
I'll be honest, it took my awhile to even see the descriptions. I guess I had my blinders on since I already had an idea of where I was headed to.
But, yes, site feedback is feedback on the overall construction of the site whereas comments are in regards to the actual post content. I've had to decline multiple comments/feedback because of the confusion.

Lisa, you are spot on. I leave website comments that focus on the content. I try to add new info or different perspective. I provide feedback in a discussion here or send a private message to the website owner.
