4 Years At Wealthy Affiliate: What A Ride!

Last Update: August 09, 2019

August makes it 4 years I've been at Wealthy Affiliate and I always like to reflect a little each year.

I'm extremely grateful to be in a community like this one and I'm happy like this one exists. I've met a lot of great people, gotten awesome advice and tips from a lot of different people and have been fortunate enough to help some people along the way as well.

Here's a little timeline of what's gone on in those 4 years:

Year 1: I was brand new to affiliate marketing and making money online. Didn't know a single thing about SEO or anything like that. I created a website that didn't really go anywhere but I learned the basics (writing content, keyword selection) as well as the discipline needed to be a successful affiliate.

Year 2: Took what I learned and put t into a new niche and got it to around $2,000 in under 6 months. unfortunately, I lost this site to a Google update but still learned a lot.

Year 3: I built another site and this one to around $4500 a month in 7 months (most months were around $2000 however). I sold it for $40,000 about 9 months after starting it.

Year 4: Built another website that got to $2,000 a month in 6 months and sold it for $30,000 in about 9 months after starting it.

I did 4 years of college and left with $30,000 worth of debt and no real life skills. In 4 years at Wealthy Affiliate I nearly made $100,000 and have skills I can reapply in a million different ways.

Which one produced better results?

My lone regret is that I didn't find Wealthy Affiliate sooner.

At this point I consider myself an intermediate affiliate marketer with much room to grow. I don't want to sell any websites for a while and my goal now is stability and to grow my monthly income.

I'm on my way to my 4th site breaking $2,000 a month with my new Make Money At Home Site and as it stands it's on pace to make around a $1000 month (if it holds steady) and I'm guessing it'll keep going up as I pump out more and more content.

Once I hit that $2,000 a month spot I'm going to turn my attention back to Amazon sites and start building more of those. I plan on using Filipino writers (I already use one and she's amazing) thanks to Jerry's training on hiring them and to build as many Amazon sites as I can in the next 3 to 5 years. I think I can do 1 a year.

The goal is $10,000+ per months and I think I can get there.

So again, thank you to everyone who's helped me along the way. Even still I'm asking questions and recently solved a problem because of the Wealthy Affiliate community (I stopped getting referrals but was able to fix the issue).

I also want to thank Kyle and Carson for making this great place. There's so many scammers and rotten people in this industry and these two have decided to stand out as being honest and legitimate.

Before I go I want to share this post. It was my first blog here at Wealthy Affiliate and it was right after I upgraded to premium:

I can officially say I made the right choice and can look back at this post and smile : )

Edit: If you're interested in reading how I built those succesful websites, read this training I made where I detail how I did it:

Hi, Dylan, awesome post that made me smile too at the end of reading :) Your story is very interesting and inspirational!

Can you please tell more what was the case with the second site that you have lost due to Google update?... I mean, what were those specific reasons this lost happened?

I was thinking about it recently that this may happen and then, all the hard done work will be lost. Is there any way to protect ourselves from this?

I wrote a bunch of short best of lists and stuffed them with too many affiliate links. So I would write maybe 1500 words and have 20 affiliate links in it.

I had no content that didn't have affiliate links. Google looks at that as spammy.

Yes, I do remember you was suggesting in your training to write at least 300 words for each product.

I try to follow these numbers, still, I have one concern: When I do product description, I give a brief introduction to the product that follows with an Amazon image link (because I want this product image to show in my content).

After that, I continue to describe the product and end up with link to the product.

This results in having two affiliate links for one single product (one text link + one image link), is not this too much for an average 300 words product description?

That should be alright - just make sure to write content that doesn't have any affiliate links

Great post Dylan, no doubt about it working at a website is better than going to university if you want to produce a living.

I am blessed to have found your training here, it has helped me make a success of my website. I am not sure I would have still been here without it another one fallen to the wayside.

Keep us informed of your insights they are always enlightening.

PS, I would urge anyone finding this to read your training over the last few years on what to try as it works.

You are a REAL inspiration to everyone starting out in the Internet Marketing World. College Degree and Education will leave you with one thing and one thing only------DEBT, that will take ages to pay off provided you find a related job and keep that job for at least 2 or 3 years.
Affiliate Marketing is the Evergreen business model that will always work no matter what the economy is doing. Any vendor needs customers to make money in their business and they are always happy to pay commission for people like us who drive traffic to their offers.
I am very proud of this post. It is once again a proof, that dreams do come true here at Wealthy Affiliate, the world's Best Internet Marketing platform!!!

Hello Dylan,

I have read a number of your blog posts and it is always great to hear success stories, I'm sure you have worked extremely hard to make the progress that you have made.

It's an interesting scenario regarding your college and coming out with debt, which one works best?!! I actually left school with almost no qualifications, most of my skills, apart from maths and English came after I left school! I have been self-employed since the age of 18 and have never looked back!

Congratulations on all your achievements and hard work, it really is encouraging to hear what can be achieved online.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Thanks! Yeah I wish I never went to college and just started affiliate marketing when I was 18 - I'd be a millionaire by now!

Thank you for your reply. I hear you, Dylan, it's amazing what can be achieved online in this day and age, it's also amazing the opportunities that the Internet has brought forth.

I see too many people studying for degrees and various qualifications, and to receive a piece of paper and a debt afterwards, in many cases I believe the time could be much better spent.

Have a great week.

Hello Dylanrieger, this is a great story, I think many of us are on that same boat 🚣‍♀️ were we go to college and university and walk away with just debts and lots of questions!

If you were to give an advice on making money online or here at WA, what would that advice be?

Thanks 🙏

Hi Dylan,

Really amazing achievements in just 4 years. Hopefully, I will be at least half successful as you in 2 years. I always find some great new information when coming back to your training and posts.

PS: I have left you a couple of messages with a question in past but never got back, was wondering if I can contact you? I understand you are busy, but would really appreciate your advice.

Happy 4th Anniversary, Dylan. I've been here for a year now (August 2nd), and have seen that you are a resourceful and kind person one can look up to for help. Without you knowing it, you've contributed to me having a successful first year in this community, which I'm grateful to you for. Thank you so much.

Also, I was inspired by the events in your timeline. It confirmed that the prospects are great the longer one stays (and works the system, of course). I was greatly encouraged, seeing that in addition to what I've learnt in my 1st year, I was able to also make 36 dollars.

Now aiming for the 2000 dollars phase (2nd year) , and then the 4,500 (and more) phase (3rd year), and so on.

Thanks once again, and more power to your elbow, pal.

Happy 4th Anniversary, Dylan!

I followed you back in 2017 when I joined WA. Even I was not planning to start any affiliate blog back then, I still found tremendous amount of information and inspiration from your posts and training. I really like the way you combined the training in WA, utilized what you learned in your sites, and added your own analysis to make things work.

Thank you and wish you greater success in the future.

Great story. Happy for you that you made it.

I am currently in the same situation like you were 4 years ago. In October I am starting my last year of university. And I don't feel anything else there, but that I am wasting my time.

Who knows, maybe 4 years from now I will be posting a motivational story like this one, and somebody new will have a comment like mine.

Keep growing,
Teo

There's a lot of opportunity out there on the internet. If you had the discipline to make it 4 years in college you can make it online!

Hey Dylan. Thanks a lot, I had a quick look and that training looks really great. Do you just use Amazon to monetise or do you use other affiliate programs? Thanks a lot

You're an awesome guy and I'm forever thankful for your posts/training that lead me in the right direction with my business (which, must I add even helped ward away depression after the surgery back in 2017). Onwards and upwards man! 👏

P.S. Love how you concluded this post 😄👍

Awesome & Congratulations Dylan!

I do agree with you on so many points that you make my friend, I joined WA just 2 months before you. I also would have loved to have made the decision and found out about WA sooner. Since I've been on and earning on the internet since 2009 I am at a loss as to why I didn't find it sooner than June 2015.

Thank you for sharing your inspirational story and journey with us all Dylan, it is truly appreciated my friend.

Keep sharing & caring,

Tony
