Do You Have Time To Procrastinate?
When people talk about procrastination I used to joke that I was going to procrastinate but I never go around to it. I think about that joke and realize that that is exactly right.I don’t have time to procrastinate.
We go through life and learn about how to manage time and that we only have twenty-four hours in our day and such. We still hear people saying, “If I only had more time!” It would be great if we did. But would we make use of this new time the same as our regular time? Or would we learn to use this mythical “extra time” more wisely?
Of course we would use it wisely! We would use it wisely because it was a gift from some wonderful benefactor who has control over time and he decided to give you some extra time because you were special. You would be so grateful you would do amazing things with this “extra time.” You would do all those things that you were putting off until this “extra time” could show up.
AND IT DID! Now what? What ARE you going to do? What are you going to do with your new found, “extra time?”
Think about this for a while. Think about all the things that you have said that you would be able to do if you had more time.
Write them down on paper and look at the importance of them.
Are they things to do with your family? Vacations, projects, just hanging out?
Are they things to do for yourself? Read a good book, get fit, start a hobby?
Are they things for your career? Learn more about your profession, learn more about WEALTHY AFFILIATE!
FINALLY STARTING YOUR BUCKET LIST!
The point here is in reality THERE IS NO “EXTRA TIME!”
TWENTY-FOUR HOURS IS ALL WE GET, PERIOD.
So, if you could think up a bunch of important things to do with your valuable “extra time” maybe you need to reevaluate the allocation of the twenty-four that we are blessed with. I say blessed with because we know that most likely we have the twenty-four but we never know for sure when the last ones will swing by.
Let’s let go of the idea of finding this mythical “extra time” and use the hours that we do get as wisely as we can and embrace life. Embrace it with all we got to make it the best life for us and those around us!
We can all do amazing things!
Peace, Love and Coconuts!

If I had found that person who had control over time I would never ask for more time be wiser, turn the clock back and do everything differently. But I truly believe that we can manage time in the best of our ability. Each of us has different priorities in life and sometimes time is the essence in my case I lose one or two hours sleep trying to do more each day.
A great blog Don. I like Brian Tracy's approach to "eat that frog". Do what you know you must be done first. When it's out the way, there's nothing left to procrastinate over! Like most people, I've got to give myself a push at times though.
Is this the idea that you do the hardest, perhaps least pleasant task first? I think it's easy to get into the mindset of I will do some easy tasks first and warm myself up for the tough tasks.
Yes Mark it is. Brian teaches to get into the flow of biting the bullet and then it's done! If you leave it too long, then you find other things to do and guess what? Oh dear now it's bedtime again. It's subconsciously finding reasons, aka excuses, to do other things that really are not requiring your attention first. It is actually a great strategy. You have to be disciplined with it. Making a list of priorities for the next day is an excellent start. With your frog at the top of course. Brians audio for this is at youtube.
Major problem for me but I'm in for the struggle. I find I procrastinate when I either don't know how to do what I want to do, or, I don't want to do what I need to do.
Good post, Don. Definitely a dragon to slay for many.
Time, our most valuable commodity.
Each day at midnight our time bank is reset. giving us 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86400 seconds, to take advantage of and that's it period.
The more value we put on our time the more we will get out of it.
Great words Don.I could not agree more
I like the time bank reference. I read that here last week and a friend told me her minister gave a lesson with the bank reference too. Jim Rohn talks about the, "If I only had more time," line in his talks. He's a good one to listen to.
