About SpecsShorts
Joined October 2013
Live in NE Indiana, me and my 2 dogs...one of which I 'inherited' from my ex-stepdaughter when her family moved. Have been in this Marketing industry since July 2012. Have learned many skills and I enjoy passing those skills along if I can. My interests in marketing are in camping supplies, Crisis/Doomsday Survival and writing (mostly short stories). I own and operate Specs International Marketing through which I run all my affiliate marketing and personal training. I am also gathering tools and info for an Online Marketing Review site, which was my initial intent with Specs. Look on the 'About Me' part of my google blogspot for specsmoneymethod.

I got side-tracked in the beginning on trying to generate traffic and wasted many months in the process. Back on track now and getting back to my original intentions. However, the time now gone has given me several skills and info for my review site! Always good. Lastly, have been hitting SEO and KW Research study pretty hard lately...last few months, trying to get my share of that page one traffic and attain my very common goal of kissing the ick job good-bye and marketing full-time.

Thanks for letting my bend your ear, George - Specs. Enjoy!

Yes, but the doomsday site is dead [I crapped it up when I disabled my security widget and now it won't let me in], and a couple of the other sites are just 'duplicate content' for different audiences. I did a lot of fumbling around trying to get this internet thing to work before I found WA so I deal with a bit of a mess controlling my sites. And you are welcome for the follow.

Thanks, OldMule for the offer. Have been down at out with recovery from open heart surgery beginning of month and just now gaining enough strength to get back online. Have 90 days (more like 33 now) before Long Term Disability kicks in and start getting paid again so am working hard on trying to work up WA affiliate and offer I have of 101 ways to go green. Also, am having to change my hosting from Coolhandle to probably Hostgator as CH keeps suspending my account and tech support is poor and unresponsive...tired of it. Can't log into any of my sites nor cPanel due to suspension so expect to have to start from scratch. This may not be a bad thing as I have learned more since sites were first built.

Hi Brenda - I like it when folks give their first name. Saves having to go back to their profile and hope it's there.
It's nice to meet you, Brenda. I've been in WA since Oct 2013 and I get a lot out of it. Haven't been able to implement much of it...this dang winter has sapped most everything out of me and we've just moved up to 10 hr days, 7 days a week at work. Weekends are only 8 hrs so that helps. Yes, I'm whining! Many here have made it with far greater diversions than I confess. I haven't quit and I won't...just won't. But things have slowed down. Currently working on Google Analytics and linking it with Google Webmaster Tools. First site was a snap...boom, boom, band and done. My next two sites aren't verifying and not sure why.
Well, stranger, didn't mean to bend your ear so much. Must be making mental notes to myself. Just got home and am eating my Hamburger Helper Goulash. Yum! [not bad really]
Well, things to do and pillows to meet soon. Again, glad to meetcha!

Oh man George, I know ya' gotta be working hard just to stay thawed out. Us So Cal folks wouldn't survive one night back there... not a chance! First thing is nobody out here has a clue about driving on anything other than a flat, dry road. Second thing is nobody out here has a clue as far as layering up before ya' twist the knob to go outside. If it's not 80 degrees in February, we cry into the wee hours of the morning... the list goes on...LOL!!!
Great having ya' darken the door... hope that snow keeps a meltin'!

Thanks for the concern and caring tears shed - ok, maybe not that far. This week is supposed to be about normal for this time of year. Highs in the 20 with some days overcast and some days sunny. Wherever one may be, there is nothing that feels better than snuggling with someone, laying in a bay window with a bright sun shinning through. It's so cozy and you can feel the sun all the way through your body. It's great sharing with someone but it's even nice alone.
It may take a year or two but I think you SoCals could acclimate ok. There's still time if you want to try. ha - like that'll happen!

Too funny, George, you're starting to sound like a romantic! My wife and I had to spend a little time in Detroit a few years back in the middle of December when a big 'ol cold front came through complete with some nice little storming. Driving was kinda strange... I'm thinking that the front wheel drive probably saved my bacon a few times. Iwas right at the end of my 'Tanker-Yankin' days so fortunately I was still driving pretty conservatively! But I do remember just hunkering down with my Sweetheart in our hotel room with some paper logs and sitting in front of the fireplace just watchin' them burn and holdin' hands. We were a couple of thousand miles from home and on someone else's schedule and totally winged being slightly snowed in. Yup, we've got some nice romantic memories... even though we were in the Detroit area!

So, yah, I'm kinda relating to ya' there, George! Might be nice rolling through Indiana sometime, but, I reckon I'll stay way south of Michigan! LOL!!!
Reply
SpecsShorts Premium
Hey DT - yep, not much beats a good ol' snugglin' event!...but....paper Logs!? You are from California, arentcha! haha. Out here, when it really gets nippy [ask me where that words comes from] hell, we'll burn anything!
Can't possibly imagine what could have brought you and your wife this side of the mountains in Dec.....especially to Detroit [Detroit is never a good choice in any season]. Had to have been some family event. Hope it wasn't something bad/sad.
My second ex has family in Detroit. Do you know any of the Pranger clan? [I know the odds are miniscule but I always have to ask in these types of situations. One just never knows].
Winter is now into it's dying quivers. Warm last week, first time in 6 wks or so. Cold again this week but next week more sunshine and warmth. After winter, we all run around in bermuda shorts and t-shirts when it hits 30 degrees. Before winter its wool coats and mittens if it hits 30.
Reply
DoubleTap Premium
OK George, you folks are kinda warped... shorts and t-shirts in the 30 degree range? There's just something wrong with that picture.LOL!

Yah, it was a family event and yup we were in the process of losing my Sweetheart's dad. She was an only-child and there was no one else to take care of things... so we just made the best of a bad situation. Trust me, we would have been burning wood if we could have got away with it but didn't want to jeopardize the hotel situation.

Don't know anyone from the Pranger clan, my Patty girl is outta the Hammond clan and it's pretty much just a memory now.

We're actually lookin' at your leftovers here in a day or two with the possibility of 3 to 4 inches of rain down here in Rocktown. LA is looking at between 1 and 2 inches. I can just hear the insurance companies all wincing right about now. It's not like God doled out much common since to the inhabitants of So Cal... pretty much dumb and dumber when it comes to driving in the wet stuff. It's safer to just put your truck in the garage, turn on the news and watch all the morons munching the guard rails from your couch!

So, yah, could be an entertaining rest of the week come Thursday and Friday. Guess I might have to drain a little water outta the pool now so I don't flood my neighbors yard in a few days and go pick up a couple boxes of paper logs.... just kiddin'!!! LOL.

Hope your night is good, George! Thanks for stopping by!

Sorry to hear of the necessity of your trip to Detroit. I'm the baby of 3. Mom and Dad gone so I may end up in an only situation as well.
After a few events of -20 degrees, +30 feels pretty damn good! Once acclimated to the cold, it takes a few days to reacclimate so for a short spell, 30 feels like 70 or 80. That's also why 30 feels so cold after a nice hot summer.
Don't get much done in the cold and now that I've started working 10 hrs per day, I get even less. Hence my rank here is dropping and I haven't touched my online work for almost 2 wks. Just been huddled up waiting for Spring and worrying about my propane bill. Used to run about $1.40 a gallon. Have a 300 gal tank [they only fill to 85% though...something to do with the propane maintaining pressure]. Last yr it cost about $400 to fill up [they don't come out until you are below 20% then they fill it up]. Filled up again last Oct, 250 gal. It was $760. Now propane is running about $6/gal. Have been hearing of folks getting 200 gal [there is a shortage so we only get so much per load now] and having to pay over $1200!! E-Gads! With only me, myself and I and the 2 pooches, I can stretch a full tank almost a year but this winter has been a real kick! Normally a winter here is in the 20's with one cold spell maybe down to 0. But this year so far we've a one spell UP to 0. So, I guess what I'm saying is............you have any more of those paper logs?
Otherwise, besides this Winter, doing ok.
Visited your site for a spell a couple days ago...watched a couple videos. Very pleasant site! Makes me eager for a trip to the Ozarks. No sand there, just bedrock. I'm not a big beach fan either. It's ok as long as I don't get wet and all full of sand, so what's the point of going to the beach if you're not going to get wet? Give me a mountain pond of river anytime.
Are you planning on monetizing your camping site or are you going to work up a new site to monetize?

Howdy there George. Well that huge storm front that everyone was talking about finally hit So Cal. We've gotten a whole.... maybe....1/2 inch!!! Our media is so stuck on stupid out here that they can't even get the weather right. Although, just in the last few minutes we're getting a nice little mini-drizzle.

Just sittin' here at a comfortable 71 degrees thinking about your propane situation back there. I grew up with the propane tank setup out in the country up in central Cal... pretty familiar with it all but those prices, nope, not getting that at all. We go through 30 to 40 gallons of propane a year during all of our camping trips but haven't paid any more than $1.80 a gallon I don't think. $6 per gallon would definitely put a bit of a little twister on things. I need to go get a refill here shortly... wondering what the pricing will be at, now?

Guess it's safe to say that you've had a few 'Two Dog Nights' this winter. I remember when we first started camping and we camped in a pop-up tent trailer... we had a couple of nights that were so cold that we pulled our big 'ol shepherd mix(Kaylee) down inside the sleeping bags to give us a little added warmth. She didn't mind a bit, slept like a baby! Kept us pretty toasty too. Them Aussies got the right idea!

Speaking of the Ozarks, we're hoping to get a motor home in a couple more years and the Ozarks are one of the things we've got on the Must Do list. Lot of our relatives and friends talk about them and always tell us that we've just gotta visit them. Hope to do a nice little trip to the east coast at that time. Things are so spotty with our government right now, who knows what we'll be able to do in a couple of years.

Yah know George, one thing that I don't worry about here is the rank thing. I do love helping people due to the ones that gave so freely to me when I started this great adventure here at WA. But I hope that I never become one of the 'Rank Spankers'. It is so dadgone irritating when they use our efforts to post stupid jibberish comments. I truly believe that every comment should have some type of contribution or connection to the post. But when I see something like "I see you got your answer below", I go to Defcon 2 in a heartbeat. Sooooo, don't sweat the ranking. The more knowledge and help you get here, the more you'll be returning the favor and then you'll see your ranking going up naturally... and that my friend, will be something to be proud of. Your character already shows... it's just a matter of time!

Stay warm with them sweet pups,

Randy

Great post mismith45. My Short Story Anthology site is purely for the fun. I do take submissions!! [Hint Hint] If you want, send me what you want as an email attachment to specs.shorts@gmail.com. There is a post on the anthology site that is an intro to how I am hoping this will work. My long term goal is to have enough varied material to put together a real anthology. No monetary gains promised for anyone before then. The intent at this point is simply to get those that wish it out into the ether and to start developing some recognitions. Who Knows what may happen or who may run across the site. If you send something [and I hope you do...I'm VERY easy to work with on posting layout etc] please try to include a cover pic or any pic(s) you want included in the story. EX: I use a books cover as a Featured Image for the story. Any questions just pm me here or send an email to the address above. I take anything though I do have limits on vulgarity. Read my intro post on the site and I made a funky [funky as in going to redo it] on the facebook fanpage for the site

They may help explain.

Hmm - bout the same here! Snowed all day today [Sunday] and supposed to most of the night...just a gentle, falling snow. But starting tonight and tomorrow that Artic Vortex is supposed to hit and blow it all into big drifts with non-windchill temps down to -15 to -20 with highs the next couple days of 0...maybe. They called off work for tomorrow and that NEVER has happened before. Must have been ordered to close or something, Lord knows they wouldn't close for our sake. They'd just point us for missing work...2 points if we don't call in.
Where are you? Can't be too far from me...well, with this storm you could be anywhere from Northern MN to Maine!!

I'm down around Marion. We've had to wood stove burning all day. Only way to do it when it's this cold. Snow's trying to wind down it looks. There's drifts up to my waist out here already. Just hoping the power doesn't go out but won't be too bad if it does. Between the wood stove and the generator, it won't be too bad. Powers been flickering since it got dark.

Ah, Marion...I'm in Lagrange about 40 mi straight north of Ft. Wayne. I've been worried about power too. Thought I'd be ok having propane for everything but then it dawned on me about a second later that no power means no water from the well nor heat from the furnace [no pump, no fan]. 'Duh - I've been a midwesterner all my life so ya think I would instantly make that connection. Not a problem, stove would work and it's just me in the house [wife sleeps in the garage...[not really!!!!! just couldn't pass up the joke...no wife at all] so I can just put my pillow in the stove and hang my feet out the door. Well done, George! Well done!! LMAO...nice one. [well done George...get it? sleeping in the oven...well done George...get it? get it?
Greetings fellow Hoosier!!! Powers been fine here all day so far but according to the maps I think farther south from me it gets worse. Sleep well.

As far as SEO, be watchful. Myself included, many make it way more difficult than it is. Keywords and the research and all that. It isn't scary but it can be a bit frustrating...doing what is supposed to work and not knowing if it does right away. But patience is a virtue and Virtue is its own reward. [An old Navy buddy of mine told me that once and I'm still trying to figure that out].
As far as editing in WP - I don't understand....if you mean what I think you are saying, go to your wordpress admin area - click on posts - click on all posts - find the post you want to edit - mouse over the title of the post and you'll see some options show up.

Thank you, Debbie. Very much appreciated. It does get to be a struggle at times...hard to stay motivated waiting for all the knowledge to congeal and produce something. I don't mean to sound like a marketer here, this is from the heart. The folks I've run into here at WA, well, all this, everything here in WA people, support, training...all of it, I finally feel rooted; based on a solid launching pad built from the shambles of past experiences both in business and personal. Hi caninable - will most certainly check out your "other" project [quick peek first very shortly]. Your phrase "other" stirs the imagination.
The Doomsday site is only an Amazon affiliate sight at this time [don't mean to talk it down, just don't want to set you up for something spectacular]. It is a nice one-stop-shop site though. I have some ideas for it...it's a new niche for me. Looking forward what you have to say about it. Hard to brainstorm with myself. I find I have to pit left and right brain against each other and that makes work kinda rough the next day.

The review site is a work-in-progress...haven't really even decided if I like that theme or not [had problem with using the theme I wanted...not a WA problem that I'm aware of]. Also, in my blogspot site, those damn Spanish soccer post keep showing up. I've deleted them three times now. They're current according to the time stamp...I'm baffled what to do about it. I have found that google isn't real easy to get through to for this kind of help. Any advice would be appreciated. My posts show up ok, but I'm not posting the soccer ones....they don't even pertain to my site!! I have a lot to learn on using my blogspot site as you will see if you look at it.

The reviews site is an old wanna-do that I'm just now wanting to do. I wanted to use the same theme I did for the doomsday and camping supplies but, for some reason, it wouldn't activate (validate my license for it) in WA. Everyone says it should work, but...not yet so I decided to go with the theme I'm now using for it. Can always change themes, so no biggy for now. A good theme can do a lot for you. Thanks for the comment, Tanya, and consider me available (accept normally on Fri nights which I declare as my own...couple movies, pizza, pop or this nice Rum Chata I just discovered) and bed then hit the w/e hard) so, anyway, whatever I can do just let me know. Been in industry for about 1.5 yr and have learned a lot while trying to find my way around, but let me tell you personally, WA is the best I've come across for training, communion, tools and support, etc...in all regards.

Hi Rebecca! I hadn't known my sites were back until I just read your post here! I've been out all day with the X doing some shopping [I try to give her some $$ for her to get Gifts for the X-kids and X-grandkids so today we went into Ft. Wayne [INdiana] did a bit of shopping at a deep discount warehouse [Darlingtons] and to Half-Priced book store then late lunch at a local buffet....had the most delicious roast beef!! I just got home, watched an episode of Dr. Who and now here I am. I'm actually a bit speechless seeing my sites back up...I did nothing...have to check my em to see if I got a report back from Coolhandle tech support. My head was all set to start rebuilding my sites and now I have to do an about-face, reevaluate and get to work. I'm still going to Xfer one of my sites here to see how it goes...gotta change DNS and find out how to actually move my site files...don't think that'll be too much of a problem, I've seen lessons here at WA on doing that but I've got to study it more [I was planning on staying up late tonight and writing some contemplative prose that has been banging on the walls of my head. It involves 3 glasses of wine and some late night spirit wrestling. The titles always come to me first with a mental sketch. This one is "Wildflowers, Roses and Weeds". But, that is later on tonight. I have other work to do now.
Thanks so much for the support. It really, truly helps.

Have a call into Tech Support and am waiting to hear back. I appreciate your patience and am Truly sorry for any confusion and/or dissapointment.
I presume you are talking about my DoomsdayEmergencySupplies site. It's gone too. Hey, that's rather ironic, isn't it? Did I fall asleep and not wake-up?
It's one of 2 Amazon affiliate sites I have. The other is for Camping supplies. Amazon has tons of stuff for both niches. Had about 250-300 items as individual posts on each site. Not a big problem getting them re-posted, I have a plugin that lets me setup what I want form Amazon and it goes out and sucks them up, well, it's a theme, actually, that I purchased. I'll be able to see what direction I need to go once I hear from Coolhandle.

HI Icadataentry - Am looking at your site as requested. First impression...Looks real good, looks nice, clean, loaded quick [these are important things...first impression]. So far only looking at home page. Now, a bit deeper. In the title of you site, in the header, would prefer to see the title spelled out rather than the url again..."Catholic Net Products" like normal writing. More...WOW I love the subjects of your post. Many I have wondered about. Are you creating these yourself? Curating them? [either way is fine]. My compliments on your ideas here [even in curation you need an idea]. Now for the downside (ha)...the ones I looked at on the post's page all said they were uncatagorized. I highly recommend you categorize each post/article/whatever. If this is unfamiliar for you, let me know. In wordpress, you can create catagories under the 'Posts' tab on the left column. Try to avoid putting anything in 'uncategorized'. It's just a catch-all. After WP loads, and you click on posts tab, you'll see a link for all posts, add new, categories, tags. Click on categories. If this is your first time working with categories, I know it looks daunting!! But once you get over that, it's a piece of cake [I found this true for me with a lot of things in Wordpress. Ha]. You don't want to go nuts creating categories. These are general areas of interest. Think of a regular old magazine. Looking at the 'Contents' section within the first couple pages...those are categories. One category can have several articles within it. I didn't create your site so I am not real familiar with the different topics you cover but, just as a prompt, I see jewelry, family stuff [like the family planning, birth control, nfp], Gifts [books/cd's/dvd's], and other teaching/learning items, all these kinda sound like different categories. You can also create sub-categories like having a 'Learning' or 'Teachings' category with books, cd's, dvd's as sub-categories...like chapters in a school text book [at least when I went to school...a long, long, long time ago]...there are chapters then more specific areas pertaining to the Chapter.

Using categories helps in several ways. For instance, in WP under the Settings tab on left, you'll see 'Permalinks'. This is where you can set how your post/page urls show in the address bar......forget that...I just checked your site and looks like you have that covered.

There is another way to create categories. When you create a post, over on the right [might have to scroll down a bit] you can choose what category your new post should go into or create new category.

Well, that's a lot in one breath!! Hope this helps.
Overall - your site looks very good....and in this biz, looks count. It flows well and looks clean [not a bunch of weird text and colors [though some color is ok]]. Your articles are contemporary [IMPORTANT] and well constructed but be sure to ALWAYS reread your posts and correct the inevitable typos and spelling/grammar. I didn't see many but I did see a few....typos like no space between twowords....stuff like that.
Time for bed.
Good Night and Great Job!!

Often some sort of Co-sequin will help, Shark Cartilage also is good for arthritic dogs. Of course, if he is overweight this will contribute.

You can give dogs a single child strength buffered aspirin every 6 hours.

Hi, I was referred to WA by Rob Parnell. I have been marketing for just over a year now and have picked up much info and skills but no Moola! Bummer. Have been in other training sites such as this (like Empower Network? dropped it!...got tired of their 'Wussian and 'If you love your family..." attitude) and other places with several tools, etc. ..but not at this price. Also, I have a lot of faith in Rob's opinion, have been promoting his writing course for some time. My problem is, surprise, surprise, traffic. Anyway, I am going to take this from the ground up and I think that'll fill in some holes in my knowledge. Recently, have been concentrating on SEO work. Can't get the Premium yet. I'll miss the discount deadline by a couple days but that's ok for me...Looking like you have a better product and less cost than most others I've seen.
Thanks for you work and concern. Get used to my avatar, you may be seeing it alot.
Thanks again...now go to bed!
