Have You Stopped To Check Your Progress Recently?

Last Update: April 08, 2014

Hey all!

So I just got back from a short 3-day trip to a music festival down in the south of Taiwan, and while I was there, I mused about one or two points that I'd like to make.

I've lived here since 2008, but until this year had never got around to going. Even though some years I could have got the weekend off, I never really wanted to. I'd have been losing money if I went, and would have had to use up some holiday leave etc.

This year, I thought "I've got no boss now, I'm just gonna go down and have some fun. I've got a smartphone and 3G, I can take my business with me".

While I was making up my mind to go, I suddenly realized:

Wow! How Awesome Is This? I've Got Nothing To Stop Me Going!

I'd been so busy working on my business, and growing my income, and trying to get more visitors, and generally being a bit of a nerd, that I'd not even noticed how far I'd come.

I work for myself now, I have an income, I can go away for a few days and my income will not suffer, and it's just an awesome feeling.

I blogged more about it on my site (and there's even a pic of me trying to "suck in the gut"), so you can read more there, but I just wanted to drop in and say to you all that no matter how far you've come, it's important to stop and take stock of what you've got going for yourself.

No way am I satisfied with what I've got, I definitely want more, but I'm absolutely delighted with how far I've come.

You should be too!

too bad I can't read your full blog on your site, when I go there I can't scroll down (there is no scroll bar anywhere) so I can't see past what appears on the first screen. I'm on a brand new Dell Inspiron 15 Model 3537 (8.1 windows) and I notice it does this on a lot of various sites (not all but quite a few sites have been unreadable due to scroll bar missing). Don't know what to do about it (another one of Windows 8 problems)..and really wanted to read more of your blog. Oh well.

try using Chrome if you aren't already.

yes, I only use google chrome...so it's obliviously some defect in Windows 8 (among the multitude of other issues Windows 8 has). Gave up on trying to fix it...just have to accept the fact that I'm not able to read every site I want to look up. thanks for your reply.

That's a shame, I guess pressing page down or using the mouse wheel to scroll doesn't work either?

Hi Dom...I thought I'd give the page down a try (as I am already using a mouse re: i had to connect a mouse and disengage the touch page completely, because when typing the cursor would be flying all across the page opening up random links, it was insane, so i had to resort to going back to the 'ol mouse method), but i just reconnected to your site, to attempt the 'page down' key, and NOW a side scroll bar just magically appeared by itself! ...so go figure (if I could afford an Apple computer, i'd dump the windows PC in a heartbeat)....maybe once I generate some income thru WA? keeping my fingers cross....if just for the sake of my sanity! :-) Thanks for the replies though! Best, Susan

ah..computers are crazy sometimes! Glad it worked out for you in the end. Kinda had me worried that I'd broken something on my site too!

Oh no, I knew from the start it wasn't your site, since I've been dealing with this since I bought this Dell only 6 months ago (a 'big' mistake!...live and learn!). By the way, I enjoyed your write up on your friend's site: 'I've tried that' (I got interested when I saw your background as a teacher and your previous bus. attempts, which mirrored ours) re: my husband is a teacher as well, and after we tried for years to generate an online income, just losing money and time, he finally gave up. When I read your write up though, it came across as very honest and sincere, quite a difference from what I would see on all those scam bus. opp. sites, and that is why I (myself) decided to give an 'online bus opp' one more try! If it works, only then will I show it to my husband, as he is also a very entertaining writer as well as when he is in front of an audience....being an actor too....so I think he would do fabulously on a bus. opp site like this, that connects people, and isn't just about signing up others so they will sign up others, etc.etc. (well, you know the deals out there!). So thanks for posting what you did, and hope I can make a go of this!

Yes.We all need to stop and smell the roses occasionally. I know I'm often guilty of being too focussed on getting someplace quickly and forget to see where I am at times.

Great post Dom! You earning the cost of your flight while on the plane is still one of my favorite IM stories. Looking forward to progress posts for years to come.

It was a really cheap AirAsia flight, but the concept still rings true.

What an inspiring post today Dom! You are so right! We get caught up in the "busy of now" and forget to look at how far we have come! Could any of us be this far if not for WA? I have made a little money however; not where I want to be. It's a journey and a productive one at that! Thank you for posting your thoughts! Makes us all think!

Awesome news Dom! I remember the days when you were juggling writing posts and going to classes. Now you can choose how your day runs.

I am still working to that end but now that I am in a joint venture with a local business man the eBay shop has taken on a new life and things are starting to improve. I also made a few sales on clickbank and amazon over the last few days so the blog is also growing again.

I made a few drastic decisions recently I dropped my ekm powershop and one of my blogs so I could concentrate on the others. Pushing those 5 snowballs up hill was too hard, to use your analogy.

Something had to give and now I have more time to work on the others so hopefully I will be in your position soon.

DomW Premium
Yeah, I always have too many things going on as well, but that's how I seem to work. I think it's a case of seeing which snowballs are the most promising and letting the other ones go.
