I'm getting lost when trying to select a theme for my website. How do you know what to look for when picking a theme? Does anyone know if there are any blog posts on this sub
You can do a search for all posts, tutorials, or training using the window at the top of the page (all pages have the menu bar)...Just type in your question...
All pertinent results will show up and you can look through the information to get a better idea of whatever it is you are looking for. In the case of what theme to use there is no one best theme for everyone.
This is why there are thousands and thousands of options out there. It really depends on many factors such as niche, will you be promoting products, selling products, or offering training or other services?
What do you want the theme to do for you? Should you be able to add training courses, make appointments, provide coaching or other services, or promote products for a commission for products that you will review (i.e. affiliate marketing)?
Once you have the niche selected, then you can have a look to see what the competition is doing. What things do you like from their websites what don't you like, and what could you do better (presentation-wise)?
Set up a list of things that you absolutely have to have (think plugins, design features, sales features, free widgets, etc.) and ones that would be nice to have but are not deal breakers...
Then you can do a Google search to find themes that would fit the criteria that you are looking for based on your research and decisions...
The next step is to decide whether to buy the premium version starting out or to try the likely free version most developers will give you access to.
If you are really sure that you have what you want to stick with for the next 4-5 years minimum, then you can get the premium version (if within the budget)...
If not, using the free version often is all you need, and you will have the look that you want with the features that you want (make sure to select one that will be around and supported)...
A second option...
There are page and site designers out there like Elementor that have hundreds and hundreds of features that you can use to build your site just as you would like it to be.
They are easy to use, fast to set up the sites with, and look great. But with the versatility comes a price in a couple of ways: The annual membership price may be more than you want to spend, and the time to do the work to get that exact design you are looking for...
My recommendation...
Most people go with the themes that are pretty much DFY, and then you only tweak them to make them unique to you and your niche. Starting out, I would recommend the DFY theme option... Much easier and faster, concentrating on content is more important...
Cheers!

How to change a theme in Wordpress you can and will change your theme many times before you find one you like
HI 2 you, in short you can chanage your website theme from the Wordpress menu to the left. The changing of a theme works around your content and website, all is intact and once your theme is up and changed you may have to tweak a few things.
