China's Rainbow Mountains!
Distinctive, steep, reddish "rainbow" cliffs, formed over millions of years, can be found in southeast, southwest, and northwest China.
These unusual land formations are made of multi-colored sandstone, and have been called danxia landforms, named after Mount Daxia, one of the oldest and most famous examples of this particular type of landscape.
Can you imagine this breathtaking color palette being created by natural forces?
The Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park has been called the "eye candy of Zhangye."
The multi-colored landforms have been admired by artists all over the world, who compare their red rocks and rainbow ridges, many of which are hundreds of meters high, to imaginative oil paintings!
Many of the rock formations resemble "castles, cones, towers; as well as humans, creatures, birds, and beasts."
The National Park is located 30 miles west of the city of Zhangye, in northwest China's Gansu Province.
Although the colors show best on a sunny day, they are likely to be more vivid if it rained the day before!
Just imagine creating a website beautiful enough to rival the wondrous Rainbow Mountains of China!
