Frustration now calm
I've been happily going through the classes, setting up my website, putting finishing touches on pages...(which I realize now will never be done.) Started hearing more about indexing, webmaster tools, etc. and thought I'd better start studying more on keywords etc. I had completed those classes but knew I needed to go back. I've been at this for about 7 weeks and most of the time I'm pleased with my progress. I don't expect to be making any money yet and will be VERY happy to be making money by June.
Today was the day: Setting up Webmaster Tools. Well, 2 hours later I was ready to throw my computer out the window! Finally I had understood that I had to copy and paste the snippet from the analytics into the end of the header where it says </head> or something like that. I read and re-read several pages in html and could not find that word or anything close. I kept going back and listening to the video, etc. etc. etc., reading the Google pages etc. etc. etc. Many of you have been there in varying degrees and will understand.
As the computer was being hoisted I get a phone call from my friend who introduced me to WA, Patti Mays. I shared the challenge and she told me about Jetpack. I knew nothing about Jetpack, but I installed it and it seems to be all I need for what I'm doing right now.
Maybe at a later date I will be able to use Webmaster Tools, I don't know. All I know is I am much calmer. I have asked my husband to ask me every night "what did you accomplish today in WA" (because I spin my wheels A LOT.) Most of the time I just don't know what I don't know! What's worse is knowing that you don't know and not knowing how to figure it out. When he asks me tonight I'll be able to say "INSTALLED JETPACK and it'll help me analyze what's happening on my webpage." He will think that is REALLY something. Fortunately he doesn't have any idea of what I don't know! In fact he thinks I really know a lot. We will keep that secret!

It can be very frustrating! I finally started asking questions until waiting to find the answer from someone else. All I can say is I love everyone here because this venture would not have lasted long without the support I received here at WA.
You are so right! I was just explaining WA to my husband and how the community helps, then I found out there is no way to explain how wonderful this community is AND what a FINE job Kyle and Carson have done. There is nothing like it. I am very spoiled!
Webmaster tools yipe could have thrown my laptop out the window on that one,, it will all come together,, the problem with my webmaster tools was the sitemap, checked links fixed any errors and it worked after days of frustration lol... glad you calm hope you have some smoother days ahead
You are funny Carla. Yes, Google Websmaster can indeed be difficult at the beginning. I am working in there right now, so funny to see your post about it.
To paste the html tag in Webmaster Tool. You click Appearance - Editor, and locate this header.php file on the left. You click on the file name, then you scroll down a little bit and find the <head> label. Then you copy the html tag from Webmaster Tool and past the html code just underneath the <head> label.
Scroll down all the way to the bottom and click save changes.
You go back to WebMaster Tool and click verify.
OH MY GOSH! It worked! Thank you MisterWailor! I was looking at the different pages for the <head> label. I verified and it worked!
On your All-in-One SEO (if you still have it), General Settings category, there is a line for your Webmaster code. You don't paste the whole thing in there, just the letters and numbers between the quotation marks. Then you're done, it should work.
I guess I didn't need the tracking code. I followed what MisterWailor said above before I saw yours and it worked......but thank you! In all my studying I did see that tracking code somewhere.
I don't use Jetpack, but if it does it for you I'm very happy! I remember there was a lesson on Webmaster Tools and since I was in my tools just today, I guess it worked. :) I am so glad you are on the right track now, my friend!
I'm sure I'll want more as time goes on........but just could not find the place for it. Think I have to leave it for awhile so will let Jetpack help for now. Thanks Carla.

On days like this, just imagine the NASA engineers in 1969 sending human beings to the Moon. They were making the rules, not following them. Not tried or tested in a real scenario. Probably a little bit more pressure timewise than you with their deadline, and the result of not getting it right- no backup and start again - sorry guys!
So Carla, do you think you will master Webmaster Tools? I bet you will! The computer you have, no comparison to what they had to deal with.
Help? They had none, they were the innovators. Life and death scenario, yep, if I absolutely do not get Webmaster Tools working right now!!
The world is watching and waiting.
Can I do it?
WA, we have a problem!
I hope your smile is still there:-) LOL.
Big smile, thanks for that Ben!
