Hello all, I am trying to recreate my wordpress blog from a wpress file. When I used All in One WP Migration I got a msg my file was larger than 64mb and I am hoping I don't ha

If you downloaded the wpress file using a fairly new version of the plugin then the hack of using the 6.77 version to restore won't work. It looks like you'll have to bite the bullet and buy the unlimited version.

Sites backed up using the 6.77 version of the plugin can be restored using the hack but not from the newer versions.

I've used AIO WP migration many times to backup and restore but I purchased the unlimited version to handle large files. It's a 1-time purchase, can be used on multiple websites and I believe is very worthwhile.

Thanks Phil, I didn't realise it was a one time purchase I thought it was a subscription - I may have to invest in it for the future. Appreciate your feedback.

Hope you were able to resolve this issue.

Support came to the rescue thanks.

Great

I just gave this a try but it keeps installing the new version over top even though I am uploading the 6.77 version from my folder - quite strange but thanks anyway

Yes I tried to install the older version which I had a copy of but not sure why it keeps over-riding for a newer version - I must be doing something wrong - thanks so much for your help anyway I appreciate the solutions - support have just contacted me so fingers crossed.

Hi everyone,

which plugin do you use for your wordpress website backup?

Regards,
Chrissie

Thanks everyone thats really helpful

All-in-One WP Migration.

Hi

You can use the AIO WP Migration or Updraft plugins. UpdraftPlus is a premium and highly recommended.

Hope this helps.

I've used both and IMHO, All-in-One WP Migration is better. Every single restore I've done with it has worked 100%. Can't say the same for Updraft. Others may have a different experience, of course.

I use All-in-One WP Migration. I have done multiple backups and restores and it has always worked perfectly. It's free until you need to restore from a backup file larger than 500MB, then it's a 1-time payment (to use on as many websites as you need).

Hi Chrissie,

I usually use the export function on the Wordpress dashboard under tools.

I've used Updraft in the past and that works well.

Hope this helps

All the best

Where do I find the following please 1) ip address/hostname for my website, 2) control panel url 3) control panel ( I guess that means what kind of control panel?)

I see you have the solution, friend. But I just want to say that you've been here for very a long time. I'm amazed. It's like seeing the many changes W.A. had gone through. Take care. All the best!

Hi

You may transfer or point to WA servers (if transferring domain has to end in .com, .net or .org.

To update your domain DNS settings to point to WA. Here are the DNS settings.

http://ns1.mywahosting.com
http://ns2.mywahosting.com

These settings will be updated within your domain registrar (where you purchased your domain) after the transfer has taken place. To transfer your domain here you need login current registrar and fetch the EPP code, there's a one year charge of $15, privacy included. One year more will get added to your domain.

Also it has to have passed the grace period of 60 days.

Thanks AbieAJ - my mistake I should have mentioned I was transferring to an external host

I used to be able to search discussion topics before the new dashboard setup - I cannot find where to go. I am ot referring to the chat group. Cheers and tahnk you in advance.

In addition have you noticed that the search database has been expanded so the search feature is very helpful.

I have so much vital information in some of my Event posts I need a strategy to enable people to skip to a topic if possible e.g. link to a topic within the post! Does anyone h

Thankyou everyone for your tips and tutorials - I now know how to proceed and have some great instructions from you to make this happen.

I am so grateful for the support!

Chrissie

Hi Chrissie,

If I'm understanding you correctly then this post was very useful for me when I wanted to do the same thing. Hope this helps,
Jordan

Jordan,

Thankyou this is perfect - exactly what I am looking for.
Now I can get to work at breaking down my long posts.

Chrissie

I totally agree with Robb, Chrissie. You can simply advise you visitors of any other topic by adding links. Jim

My tutorial on the basics of linking. Hopefully this is still current. At least try it and then ask questions if you have any.

Helen,
This tutorial is amazing thanks so much for putting it together I can definitely get my head around this

Chrissie

Funnily enough I did this a while ago and had to retrain my brain to get around it!

I am relatively new here, Chrissie, but since I'm one of the only insomniacs present at the time, I'll try to give a suggestion.

I know that you can always make any 'text' a link, Chrissie... So, perhaps some type of a 'qualifying statement' like: "For those of you who were at last year's event, and just need times, dates, and registration info CLICK HERE." And later... "To see the pics from yesterday..." Or... "If you're in the Metro area, you'll want to go HERE. to proceed."

Just something I have used. Hope it helps.

~ Robb

Robb,

That is exactly the type of approach I need to offer in my posts - thankyou so much.
