Stop Worrying About The Potholes In The Road

I enjoy a good open air run, especially along country roads and tracks. Roads and tracks are great analogies for life and remind you how to manage yourself along your journey.

Focus On Your Furthest Point

When you are running, if you keep your eyes down looking for the next pothole you will be zigzagging and burn energy trying to get from one pothole to the other. You may even find yourself stepping into a few!

The more effective way to run is to focus on your furthest point and allow your eyes to have a slight glimpse at what is immediately in front of you. This takes less energy and keeps you connected to your end goal.

The same applies in your business and everyday life.

Keep your eyes focused on your end game. There will be potholes along the way, like finding the most appropriate keywords and images, but focus on your bigger picture - your User Experience - and it will keep you engaged and motivated.

Find Your Rhythm

You must have heard the saying at Wealthy Affiliate (WA) that we are running a marathon, not a sprint. While having a rhythm is important for a sprint, it is critical for a marathon.

Before you begin, make sure that everything you will need for your journey is within reach. Remember, you are travelling a long road.

A few weeks ago I ran a 14K. At the start it seemed like a long way to go and I wondered if I would make it. The first kilometer was up hill and took some effort.

After that I slowed a little, focused ahead, pulled away from the groups and began listening to my feet. Listening to my feet and my breathing provided me with the sound I needed to keep my rhythm.

The same mindset, focus and rhythm are needed when you are working on your blogs and online business. Make a sound connection with what you are doing and train your mind to let go of everything else.

Potholes Are Everywhere

Potholes are everywhere and if you give them more attention than they deserve, they will become bigger than they should be.

What you feed is what will grow.

So remember to feed positivity into your goals and objectives today. 🙂

Knowing one's end game is indeed very important. For without it we will be all over the map. Great post. But I have to say do not ignore the pot holes. They could mess you up.

Many many years ago I was a very wide eyed motorcycle rider in the busy streets of Manila, Philippines. The motorcycle was brand new and I was a 'seasoned' rider.

I was in a wide and long boulevard and it was kind of rainy. I positioned my motorcycle in front of a lot of vehicles behind me as the traffic lights turned red.

Then when the lights turned green I took off ahead of all of them.
The POT HOLE was full of water and it was not distinguishable from the rest of the concrete road. I hit that sucker luckily before I could reach a good velocity but nevertheless I was thrown up into the air while the motorcycle skidded below me.

I was lucky to have landed with both feet down on the now skidding motorcycle on its side. Survived that POT HOLE incident with nothing but a terrified soul who now have to explain the bent shock absorbers to my brother in law who owned the new motorcycle.

Yep, do not ignore those pot holes...I say.

But I do agree that when it comes to obstacles...a famous Admiral during WWII said, 'Damn the torpedoes, FULL SPEED AHEAD!'

Thanks for this encouraging post Cassi!

Joe

Joe, what a gruelling experience.
I am happy that you survived to tell the sorry and, you are very right.
We should not ignore the pot holes, as that could be to ur detriment.

Keep your eyes moving well enough to see them and quickly navigate your next step.

I like your experience - the forest and trees analogy.
That is the power you hold with a reasonable distance - being able to navigate a full view. 😉

Thank you so much.
I am inspired for a part 2.

Cassi, A very good analogy. Keeping a good rythm in what you do is one of the keys to make good progress, in everything we do. Don´t let the end game overwhelm you, but keep the focus on it with and avoiding the potholes along the way will be "a piece of cake".

Thank you for great motivation🚴‍♂️😃

You are welcome, Roy.

I think of you often with Martial Arts.
There is an intense focus and systematic "movement" that is required and if transposed to our business work ethic, it can propel us forward in a big way.

Thank you for your feedback.

Have a good day.
Cassi

Add the flexibility to the intense focus and systematic movement, just like straws bending to the wind and water that always arrives at its goal no matter where the potholes are.

" Be like a´water" and you will avoid the potholes and reach your end point.

-Roy-

"Be like a 'water'".

I like that, Roy.

Thank you.

Wow! Extremely good point that you made across. First I'll never run 14k - no way! But potholes can be something imaginary and not worth paying attention to, too much, it may slow you down depending on how you look at it.
Very stunningly written CassiOfTroy! X.

Exactly the point, Farah!

Thank you for your support.
Cassi

Hi Cassi, wow a 14 k run. The only way I could do that is if someone was chasing me, and that's only a maybe. We will all face potholes and different obstacles in our journey, but remaining focused is key to success. Thank you for sharing this great post.

All the best,
Michael

Michael, I felt the same way before I started. 😃
It got easier with time and coming to the end, I really could have gone on longer.

Yep!
Focus makes a big difference.

Thank you for your support.
Cassi

Always welcome Cassi.

Michael

Thanks Cassi, good post. I like to fill the potholes as I go along, that way it's easier next time.
Mike

A great mindset, Michael!

Thank you.
