Hi Everyone!

Today I am going to be outlining a band new, significant, and very exciting platform that we have just released to the entire WA community. This platform is for both Starter and Premium members alike...we call it...SiteContent!

Let's talk about what we define Internet business as here at Wealthy Affiliate. Since 2005 we have been offering anyone wanting to have an internet presence with a place they can learn, interact, get help, and build that presence to any level they wish. I'm talking about building websites here!

Everyone is aware that building websites actually means "publishing content". This is one reason why mid 2016 we started a project to create something truly innovative in the content publishing space.

Introducing...The SiteContent Platform!

The goal with SiteContent is to provide an editor that is not just easy to use, but allows tracking of progress, indexing status in Google, setting of goals, easy publication to websites, content metrics, and organization (among much more). We want to streamline your writing for ultimate efficiency! Use of templates where you can include content and give yourself layouts to simply fill in and add unique content. Easy management of revisions, real-time content calculations and auto saves, and a long list of unreleased features that will place this platform in a league of it's own!

We wanted to provide a platform whee you work toward goals, see progress as you type each word, and strive forward to meet your productivity goals in terms of publishing content on websites and word goals. Kyle and I are huge advocates for setting goals, we do this weekly and monthly. We work toward our goals, we achieve them, and set new ones - a practice that you can apply directly to creating and publishing content!

In this first phase of the project we've implemented the ability to send your contend directly to any website that is listed within your account here at WA. You can organize your content by "Buckets" build out many pieces of content, then publish to your chosen website at any time! This is intricately integrated into WordPress.

Choose the WordPress author, set the permalink, publish, then edit your content directly within your website to add images, video, or specific plugin elements like Star Ratings, Forms, Buttons etc.

Centralizing your content management is a big part of being efficient and productive. It's cumbersome if you have more than one website to be logging into each site, browsing to your posts area, then trying to find your content that you have in "Drafts", then work on that content.

SiteContent provides you with one place to author your content, it's truly going to streamline everything in regard to building out websites, growing your content base, and ultimately your traffic, rankings, and revenue.

Status and Credibility

As you continue to build out your content within the SiteContent platform, you are going to gain writing status within the community. This will lead to "many benefits and opportunities" in time. These two sentences were taking directly from the SiteContent tour that you will be presented with as you enter SiteContent for the first time. If you think this is vague, it's meant to be because we cannot show our full hand of cards just yet!

That said, you are going to be gaining status within this platform, a status we call Writing Levels. Everyone starts off at Level 1, and as you publish content you are going to gain status and move to higher levels. Writing levels are calculated based on published content within the past 30 days. So, you move up and down based on your consistency with publishing. A benefit of achieving higher writing levels is to give you a goal to strive for, then maintain!

...Of course, we have much bigger plans that involve writing Levels, and other elements will be built vs only unique content published.

Creating Great Content

Aside from the goals and writing efficiency and centralizing of content to keep you organized, SiteContent offers a great editor! A fun and easy to use editing space is something that took many revisions and months worth of USE.

Kyle and I have been using this platform for months and we've now got it to a stage where we look forward to using it to generate content.

Powerful grammar and spelling checking has been built into this from the start. This is something that will become better, smarter, and more helpful over time and as more words are published within the platform. We want your content created within SiteContent to be the best of your ability, and this starts with being grammatically correct and spelling error free.

Upon publishing your content we will check it against the major search engines and do our best to determine if any areas of your content is copied or by chance "duplicate" of another published resource on the Web. Yes, we're aware that some content will have elements that are duplicate "like quotes", but we will warn you about this at the time of publication. You can rest assured that content published through SiteContent is not going to be blacklisted or "dinged" by Google for being unoriginal.

SiteContent is meant to be where you work on your content, refine it, perfect it, and when it's ready, publish to a website. You will notice that there is no way to "publish as draft". This was done on purpose because once your content leaves SiteContent, it's on your website an you can continue editing there if you wish to further enhance the content or modify it after the fact. Once published, you will not have the ability to republish - we've done this to protect you from making the mistake of publishing duplicate content!

Is SiteContent the End of Rapid Writer?

Yes... Rapid Writer, which is still available at the current time within the main menu under the "Tools" heading, is going to sunset in the near future. SiteContent is much more than just an editor and there is no need to have both platforms within WA.

In the coming month the Rapid Writer link within the main menu will no longer exist. At that time we will be moving all saved content from that platform, over to SiteContent - no need for you to do anything, it'll just happen and you'll be better off being able to work on your content within SiteContent instead!

What's Next for SiteContent?

You'll notice that in this initial phase of SiteContent you cannot manage images...this was not overlooked! We have something truly groundbreaking coming to SiteContent in the next planned update of this multi-phased platform.

When I say multi-phased, we have massive plans to build something that truly doesn't exist in the publication and content creation world.

We've got a much bigger picture platform that is being built, and you can look forward to seeing many more iterations be rolled out in the coming weeks and months.

----------

SiteContent is a tool that Kyle and I love to use, and it's now ready for YOU to get involved with! Brand new training is coming out for both The Certification set of courses, and Affiliate Bootcamp. We suggest SiteContent as the place to create and manage ALL your content within this new training.

As with all of our major update, we like to blog to let everyone know, as well as provide insight into the WHY behind our platforms. We've got loads more coming for SiteContent as this is just the first phase to get things rolling!

We would love feedback!

Enjoy!

Carson

So I feel kinda silly. Literally just saw the sitecontent when I was going to give people some contents and I was like WHAT IS THIS?!?! then I had to come find your post because I know if anyone blogged about it - you did carson! and you did. This is super interesting and I love the tracking idea. Gonna have to give this a shot.

Hiya. I started using it about a month ago for a new site. I like the templates, especially the Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclaimer. I'm also growing fonder of the create new content template. I've been able to easily plug in my sub headings and then write my content. I used to be proud of myself for writing 400 word posts but now I'm easily doing 1,000 plus. I'm then posting directly to my website rather than copy and paste. I still have to go into my dashboard and add an image but the formatting has been fine. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I have been using this for a couple of weeks, unaware that it is new. Now that I have found this post, I now understand what I perceived as shortcomings are in fact being addresses in other phases. I have found this feature an awesome tool in my publishing "career".
Thanks for yet another fantastic tool and all the "behind the scenes" hard work.

I don't mean to be rude or negative, but as of right now this platform does not look like something I will use.

I have found the Wordpress editor to be satisfactory when it comes to writing, and right now I don't see an advantage to using SiteContent other than for tracking goals. Compound the fact that I can't save drafts, add images (though I know this is in the works) or preview how the post will look on my site. There are simply less features than what is already natively available in WP.

Also, I have plugins (namely AIO-SEO) that need to be configured before publishing a page. Honestly I'm a bit surprised this wasn't considered. I think it would have been more effective to make this platform about tracking goals, considering existing content as well as new content.

I hate to be critical here because I really do appreciate all of the effort you all put into constantly improving WA, but I can't help but wonder if the time spent on SiteContent would have been better utilized at making a mobile version/app of WA or improving existing platforms.

Ok. After trying the SiteContent, I just have one suggestion.

Can we have one more button "Transfer Content" because I don't want to immediately publish my content?

It still needs a lot of editing: Images, Links, Meta Title and Description, Feature Image, etc.

If I immediately publish it, it seems like the article is not complete.

(And yes, you already thought to have images in the SiteContent)

And.. second think (wait.. didn't I say I have only one suggestion.. well..)

When I switch to the Text Mode, I noticed that we have a lot of <span> tag. Especially from the Grammar checker. Will this "burden" the site because it has to read all those <span> tags?

Thank you so much for this feature, Kyle and Carson!
Reply
Foobard Premium
Excellent points. Posting the article immediately might be fine for a new blog with no traffic, but if you do have regular readers they might be confused by half-finished articles with missing graphics appearing on your website. Even worse if you offer an RSS feed where your readers can see when you publish new content! Not a great user experience.
What if you forget to add a graphic? I like adding my graphics as I write so I don't forget.

I also like clean code. After I write a post, I always look at it in code view and clean up the HTML. Sometimes I have missing graphics or videos that I remember adding in the WP post editor, and then I find them in code view. After I delete the junk code that was added in the post editor, my graphics reappear! Lots of SPAN tags would raise my blood pressure, for sure!

I'm interested in using this new feature, but I will be very cautious, and test it thoroughly before I trust it with a long post.

Hey Arief,

We're definitely considering an option to post as a DRAFT. Your points are very valid and we'll definitely be discussing this. Thanks for that feedback.

Related these <span> tags, we'll definitely look into this and make sure that those are stripped out. They are not supposed to be there so we'll get this sorted out ASAP :)

Carson,
Post as DRAFT would also mostly fix the issue of how to allow images in the Site Content editor.
The workflow would be, write up an article in Site Content, post as draft, then add the pictures from your own hosted site, then you can preview it, make sure it looks good, then Publish.
I can see the difficulty in allowing the posting of self-hosted images from your own site in Site Content, it would be difficult to know what website you are posting (unless you told it via a dropdown at the beginning of writing a post) to and integrate everything. One way around that would be image hosting from a third party like a S3 bucket or Google Photos or whatever.

Thanks a lot for all your hard work!

We've got a very good solution coming for images that will allow you to add images directly within SiteContent and upon publishing we'll send all those images to the site etc. It's in the works and it's great!

I am starting to use this feature now and it would probably be a benefit to either include the "keyword tool" into it, or make it so the "keyword tool" opens in a separate window. The way it now works is that Site content is exited when chosing the "keyword tool" under the "tools" menu. However this tool is often used along with the actual creation of a page/post and should not exclude each other when chosen. I know that right-click/open in new tab will work, however the Site Content is very professional so a little "tweak" would make it even better.

I just started using this tonight and I LOVE it! I started working on two different articles and it's really nice to have them right there in front of me, instead of navigating to WordPress. It's very easy and virtually foolproof. I also really like that it keeps stats and has the option of setting goals for yourself. I'm so excited to use this. I think it's going to make me way more productive!

Really great development!

For me personally, there is only one downside and that is I live in China and WA gets blocked from time to time. So I like to do everything offline until the last minute, just in case the internet goes down. Even with a VPN which I frequently use, things get really slow.

I am not sure how I will fit this into my writing plan. But, with such an awesome product I will have to try it out and then see if I can create a backup plan.

Exciting, but the article has a couple of typos and grammatical mistakes! E.g. "We wanted to provide a platform whee you work toward goals" -- "where," not "whee." Also "In this first phase of the project we've implemented the ability to send your contend directly" -- content, not contend. There's more. Still, it sounds interesting. Looking forward to working with it.

Site Content then to me simplifies the job for writers even further. More like a master board of publications managed by a single entity. I have been thinking about duplicating trending websites and was kind of set aback by the issue of logging in and out, getting lost along the way and all, now bingo! There is a platform that makes that even easier. Thanks for this Carson and Kyle, much respect.
Reply

This looks great! It would be awesome if there was an offline mode or mobile app. Currently, if I want to write when there's no internet available, I write in a word processor and copy and paste into the post editor when I get connected. Will Site Content give me credit for copy/pasted writing?
Reply
Carson Premium
There is definitely an application for being able to write while OFFLINE and it's a great suggestion. At the current time SiteContent is something that is going to require an Internet connection to be able to work.

Copy/pasting content was a big discussion while we created this and we decided that folks should not be penalized in terms of their word counts etc if they want to move content into SiteContent from platforms like MS Word, or Google Docs etc. We do count words that are pasted in. That said, the writing levels are calculated based on unique content that is published. So if someone wanted to re-publish content just to "Game" the system and acquire a higher writing level, that wouldn't work.

Bit of a long answer here, but your word counts do include copy/pasted content, and Writing Levels are calculated based on UNIQUE Content published.

Thanks! I was trying to use the Wordpress app for iOS (in self-hosted blog mode) to write offline, but you guys apparently block the xmlrpc.php which makes the WordPress app unable to log into self-hosted blogs at WA. I travel a lot, and I often don't have internet in campgrounds and national parks, etc.
Now I see another reason for you guys disabling that, if we COULD use the WordPress app, then we wouldn't get credit for writing in Site Content.

Being able to copy and past in will save me as I stated above internet access is such a big issue for here in China.

SiteContent works great and makes writing seem more fun.

I just published a short review to my blog using a template and it really keeps track of your progress in terms of heading/paragraph/word count - helping to reach our goals.

However, when I went to edit the post in my WP dashboard, the spacing was totally messed up. Paragraphs were squashed up into big blocks of content and not all headings were spaced out correctly.

I had to go into the WP "editor" option and manually add coding to create the proper spacing. In addition, I also noticed that the WA spell checker added extra coding to the code which I had to delete.

Hey Neil,

We'll run some tests on this - just one question. Did you write the content 100% within SiteContent, or did you copy/paste it in from another source? What I want to determine is if there could have been any styling code brought over by a copy/paste.

Thanks for the help, definitely something I'll want to look into.

Hi Carson

Yeah, I used SiteContent to write it. I think the post gets published on WP exactly how it's created using SC. It's only when you go to edit the post to insert images, etc, that the post becomes big blocks of content and a lot of the spacing disappears.

I'm not sure if it's a problem with SC or the fact that the posts get uploaded straight to "editor" and when switching to "text", it undoes everything.

You're welcome! :)

This sounds like a great feature Carson/Kyle... Awesome!

Once we have it on our site, and we edit it to add more words, will those be counted in SiteContent as well?

Also, if publishing to website is the only option, how do I schedule my posts? I hardly publish instantly and most of everything I write is scheduled, so how will this work?

Thank you for all your work!

Hi Grace,

Once the content leaves SiteContent and is published on a website, that's where the word counts, stats etc ends. We do keep track of indexing of the content in Google, but we do not retroactively track edits after being published to a website because at that time we have no way to determine if the content is unique, or if you wrote that content at all (comments etc).

Carson

Carson, what can I say, this is great news, especially for a regular user of Rapid Writer like me! So, you've already answered my initial question about my material currently saved on Rapid Writer. Good to know that will all be transferred automatically - I have keywords there as well (!!!).
Now, my next question may have to do with Apple mor Pathan with yourselves, but another problem for me is that I cannot type or word process as easily when using my iPad than when I use my laptop. Is word processing by iPad or any other tablet going to become better working on Site Content?

Giulia

Hey Giulia,

Great to hear that you are an avid Rapid Writer user and that you all be moving over to using SiteContent.

In terms of using SiteContent on an iPad, it's quite usable as it is, however I do understand that the digital keyboard can get in the way of the editor and that some of the floating elements etc are not perfect.. The bottom line is that SiteContent is going to have a mobile version, along with all main areas of WA. The timeline for this isn't something I can give you an exact date of, but it's been in the works for months so you can rest assured that a mobile version of SiteContent will be available at some point.

I think I would love to use this platform. It checks your originality, your spelling, it boosts your rank at WA and Search Engines. I can say this is "All in One" not just like "3 in One coffee.

I see the H1, H2, H3, and P but I need and I know others need it too the tool that adjusts the line spaces that other themes don't have. So you need not other tools to use that will only complicate the work. Just like Microsoft word that is complete.

Two things I'm missing:

- When publishing you can choose to publish as Post or as Page. I tried the Post setting. What I miss, is that no category can be chosen.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant :) WA is constantly bringing out new and exciting features that just make this platform better all the time.

It is funny because so many people have asked me why if I rave about WA all the time have I not given a 100/100 rating and my answer is simply because nothing is every 100% awesome, it can always be better... and WA keeps getting better.

I remember when I first got the idea in my head to start working online and I thought of a website as a static thing. As in you have it built and that's it. My sister has been working online for many years and she told me at the time that a website is never finished.

It took me a while to understand that.

There are so many people that would just stop where you are now and know they did a good job and just reap in the benefits but you still strive to help others. I absolutely love it.

I'm going to enjoy playing with this.

Here are two erros I found for you:

1/ I believe the first should read 'content' not contend

I like it so far but I would like more editing features for it, like more header selections than just to level 3 two more levels would be nice. I would also think u should be able to change the font color and size. If those were to be implemented that would be great. As of right now, I have to publish through site content then go back into the WP editor and change heading sizes, font color, and size etc. which I think kind of defeats the purpose of Site Content I think. So a few more editing options would be very beneficial I think. Otherwise, I like it, it is definitely faster than WP editor which always seems to lag way behind for me when I am typing in content and trying to check grammar and spelling.

Hi Carl,

I'm sure that over time the formatting toolset will evolve, but we've chosen this "limited" set of tools for a reason. One thing that we want to really promote here with SiteContent is readability, and consistency with your content. You ABSOLUTELY want to allow your WordPress theme to control the font size and colors. If you start introducing different font sizes and colors for text, the site can become inconsistent, and that can impact readability in a negative way. So - Font Sizes, and Colors may not make their way into the formatting options, but that's not a NO either ;)

There are all kinds of plugins that you can install in WordPress that will allow you to make font different colors, but ideally you want to stick to being consistent so that your content is familiar from post to post, or page to page. The purpose of SiteContent was not at all to offer a fancy formatting toolbar. It was created as a writing platform that allows for better efficiency, organization, and insight into the content you are creating.

As you mentioned, if you want to change colors or introduce font-sizes that are not native to your theme, you can do so with many different plugins. After publishing content to Wordpress from SiteContent, there is a link to "Edit in WordPress" which will log you into the site and bring up the WordPress editor. Tweaks to the content could be made from there with ease.

Great feedback - we love to hear what folks love, but we also like to hear what may be missing. We're never close minded and we have no ego when it comes to feedback - it's what helps us really move forward and produce platforms that work for real life scenarios.

Thanks again :)

Thanks for the reply Carson, I really appreciate. The only reason I need color is that I make my linked text a different color so that it stands out from the rest of the text besides just and underline. Other than that I do not really use the color much elsewhere, lol, maybe on a heading 3 here and there sometimes too just to bring attention to it. :) If this is a bad practice to use colors like this then please let me know and I can change it in my posts and pages.

I already use WP Edit plugin for editing features right now. I just know some people like to change the font size so that is why I was asking for it, was no for me personally as I do not change font size. I let the theme dictate the font style and size.

So when u publish to your site the font style and size will change to whatever the default is for the theme? If so that is cool!

Hey Carl,

Yes, if you set, for example, an H3 in SiteContent, it'll be published on the website and take the styling of how you theme styles an H3 tag!

One thing you could do to make your life easier is to add a little bit of custom styling to your theme to change links so ALL links are how you want them to look...the font and color you want. Then you no longer have to spend the time to change all links manually.

If you send me a PM, I could likely help you with that this week.
