Stepping Outside My Box
I guess you could say that joining WA was stepping outside my box as I never, in a million years, thought I would be able to build a website and monetize it. However, this blog doesn't refer to that.
The Box
Most of you know that I'm a non-fiction author and editor, non-fiction as in mainly textbooks and legal documents. A friend of mine asked me if I would edit her new book. It's fiction. Fiction? Me?
Outside The Box
I don't know what made me say yes, but . . . we came to an agreement. I know that I can correct it for grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. But can I give it some zing? She wants zing.
The Good News
The author works with hundreds of other authors. She said if she likes my work, she will promote me to her friends. . . and at a much higher rate than she's paying me.
The Bad News
I'm seriously scared spitless! It's something new. I'm very busy. That old voice is saying, "Carla, you can't do this. You edit textbooks and legal docs. You've never edited a fiction book. And this one is a romantic thriller, to boot. Who you kiddin', gurlie?"
What if I. . . fail? (GASP, HORROR, SHOCK!!!)
Stay Tuned
If you hear screams in various parts of the world over the next few weeks, you'll know it's me pulling out my last gray hairs. Hopefully, I have enough Jameson's left to get through this project. I'm going out to restock the Guinness in the fridge tomorrow.
Bottom Line
If I could learn to build websites, I can edit fiction, right? I'm going to keep telling myself that.
