Another Online Pet Peeve
I wrote the other day about difficult unsubscribe procedures ticking me off. Today, as I went through my mountain of emails, I decided there was something else that ticks me off, too.
Sign Up For This, That And The Other Thing
Since joining Wealthy Affiliate, I tend to look at lots of different marketing techniques and tools, plus other systems being offered, to see how things stack up. So occasionally, I sign up for a free report, a free course or a free eBook.
Too Much
What I DIDN’T want was daily emails from the place, sometimes two to three per day. These may be informative, but their usual intent is to sell me a system or upsell me on something. Sometimes it’s just to ask how I liked the free report. . . a few hours after it was delivered! Yeah, like I have nothing better to do than read your freebie immediately.
Free Shy
So now I’m getting “free shy” because I simply don’t have the time to delete all the email I’m getting bombed with.Since I have a business site that features WA, I really want to know what’s out there but, please, people, stop bombarding me with all these emails!!! I can tell you that you won’t get a sale that way even if I were in the mood to buy.
I know folks here at WA are NOT doing this to their customer list. At least I hope you’re not. I understand the need to keep in touch with your list. That’s fine, but too much email could be driving people away. Try not to force them to hit that unsubscribe button, K?
Unsub
Have a great evening! I have to go unsub from a few more lists.

I heard that some email campaigns, if you don't respond either yay or nay, they will send you up to 5 per day! So I learned to unsubscribe and I have a different email address for each business! I hear you girl!
From now on, everything will be going into my junk email account, Rochelle. Such a simple solution. As Sharon said, she has the emails but doesn't have to do anything with them. I think it will help the legit emails from getting buried, too, or worse. . . deleted by mistake.
Carla I agree with this to a certain degree. As a consumer I agree. As a marketer, I expect this.
Everyone wants to make money from there list. Not everyone cares if they provide value to there list. Sadly.
Very few of these emails make it to my primary email account. I have an account setup to get spammed by marketers. I do this just to get ideas for email headlines. I like to see "what makes me open an email?". "What temps me to buy?" This helps me to get better at copy writing by looking at those who have more experience than me.
Hope this helps.
Yes, it does. You're right. I DO get emails that have value in them. Those I read. But the vast majority have no value, they're just pestering me with them. My junk account is now set up and I will start directing everything that way. Thanks for the insightful comment, Mike.
HI Carla, nothing changes! from day one it's allabout giving you this for free...but later i will need for you to buy my offer. This being going on forever. So it is fo rus to leave that free report because everything is here at WA ...thanks for the reminder.
You're so right, Wayne! I only sign up, though, to use them to compare against WA for articles to show that WA is DA BEST. :)
From someone who was getting over 1500 daily useless emails.....I make GREAT use of marking certain things 'spam' so that emails from them basically disappear....not as effective as opting out (which I also do), but keeps alive some sites that I do want freebies or periodic articles from....
Yeah... I usually end up signing up for the freebie and then I unsubscribe pretty quickly if there's nothing of value. And typically the freebies aren't worth it, that's the lesson I'm learning.
Thanks, Shawn. That's what I'm going to do and use that to sign up for everything so I can just bulk delete. I wish I would have thought of that first. LOL

Hi Carla, I have a junk mail account. I've noticed that when I don't open some of them, they eventually stop sending more. The thing is, when you open them or unsubscribe to them, you're letting them know it's an active account. So, my junk mail account is pretty much dormant. Sure there are over 200,000 emails in there, but I don't have to deal with them.
I just opened one, Sharon. Not sure why I didn't think of that before, but now everything I sign up for will be going that way.
