If any of you have created any Squidoo Lenses you may need to find a new place to host them ASAP. On Friday, August 15th, 2014 Seth Godin, the Founder announced that HubPages had acquired Squidoo.

SQUIDOO TO HUBPAGES

Squidoo was a community website platform where users could create pages of content called “Lenses” which could be used to sell products. As of October 2010 the Squidoo site had a reported 1.5 million “Lenses” on its servers.

In his announcement on Friday, Godin said that the aim is to relocate some of Squidoo’s content to its new home at HubPages by October 1, 2014. Notice that he said “some” and not “all”. This has caused a stir among many users on social media as I saw many tweets being retweeted on Twitter this weekend.

If you have a Squidoo Lens you may need to take efforts RIGHT NOW to get them hosted somewhere else! It is pretty obvious by Godin’s remarks and by the frenzy on Twitter this weekend that not all of the over 1.5 million Lenses are going to be moved to the HubPages servers.

FAQ

On the HubPages Squidoo Transition FAQ page, see link at the bottom of this blog post, the answer to the question – “Will all of Squidoo’s content move to HubPages?” – the answer is:

“Only Squidoo accounts with at least one Featured Lens will be moved over to HubPages, unless the account holder decides to opt out of the migration. Lenses that were Featured on Squidoo will be Featured Hubs on HubPages. Unpublished and WIP Lenses will be unpublished after they're moved to HubPages. Content by Squidoo users without any Featured Lenses (excluding seasonal) will not be moved over, unless the Squidoo user explicitly requests to migrate over by clicking through from their Squidoo dashboard and establishing a HubPages user account.”

So if you have any Squidoo Lenses you may want to take action on them ASAP before October 1st, 2014.

Thanks for the heads up, Robert :D

After working my socks off on my Halloween and Christmas Squidoo lenses, and having a few successful years at money making with the platform, I think it's finally time for me to say goodbye it.

It was a great starting point, had so much fun with creating lenses and was awesome while it lasted. But Google eventually gave Squidoo the "slap" and a lot of lensmasters lost page 1 rankings (myself included).

Squidoo was a fantastic learning experience, but now I've moved on to bigger and better things here at WA.

Neil

You are welcome Neil. I had thought about giving Squidoo a try but I was too wrapped up into what I had here at WA and never got around to doing a lense. Now I guess it wasn't a total loss after all.

It was worth the effort and you could get top Google rankings within only a few weeks of creating a new lens. I created one on artificial christmas trees and the lens generated upto 100 organic visitors per day between the months of November through to the end of December.

Black Friday 2012 was especially crazy because the lens received over 1,000+ visitors just in one weekend alone.

I do still see peoples Squidoo lenses ranked on Google but not in the top positions anymore. I think the same applies to hubpages too.

As one door shuts, a better one opens as they say.

Neil

One of these days if I ever get the time maybe I'll get around to doing a Hub. I have had a HubPage account for about 8 months but haven't done anything with it.

Thanks for the info -

You are welcome.

Very important need to know info. Thanks for sharing. Best regards. ~Jeannie

You are welcome Jeannie. Always happy to spread the word.

Heard this. It's gotten a lot of publicity but that's good for WA.

Yes and I hope it will be good for us too who promote WA. So I will be sharing 2 posts per day on Twitter, Facebook and others tying in how WA can provide better hosting for those whop are now looking for it.

Cheers for the heads up

You are welcome.

Good morning, my 'crafty' brother :-)

You are welcome Kelly.

Thanks Robert, immediately sent a tweet / Do you have #Squidoo #Lenses, you might consider to host it somewhere else/ Free hosting http://www.wealthyaffiliate.................link

LOL...I just saw that after tweeting one myself.

Yes, it is a hot topic on all the social networks that's for sure. It doesn't sound like the transition will be all roses for those with Squidoo sites, either. Thanks for this post, Bob, especially for the links to more info. As always... Love your posts.

You are welcome Patti. It is a hot topic, one that I hope to capitalize on in my social shares of my content about WA. :-)

You're so smart.

I prefer crafty. lol

I've seen this all over FB and Twitter this weekend, Bob. People are really PO'd about it. I never used it, but often thought about it. Hopefully, everyone here at WA will move their lenses to an appropriate place.

I saw the same thing too this weekend on Twitter. Some people were quite upset and wondering what servers are they going to move their content too. I suggested to one of them to move their content to the WA servers. - I too never did a Squidoo Lens but I did think about it once.
