Revamping My Website. Need Help.

I would like to change my theme, I still want it to have a soft feel, but more professional and mobile friendly, and that supports a header image.

I also want to change the site's name as well as the tagline to be more SEO friendly.

I would really appreciate any advice, my head has hit a flat right now!

Good luck I will probably need to do the same thing eventually too.

Here is the link to WP premium themes. http://www.elegantthemes.com/

Thanks!

I am busy looking at your site. Which theme are you using?

Hi Christine, the Licorice theme.

I will have a look at that.

Thanks for your input Christine. I really appreciate it. I'll set up a test site and play around. How do you replace the header image?

there are several themes for the header to choose from, but you can also replace it with your own photograph or use paint. i=I used paint and the colour blue for the time being.

I would also (like crp2511) suggest that you set up a free siterubix site to experiment with themes. You don't even need to copy over any proper content. Just write a bit for each page/post to see what it looks like. You can easily delete a siterubix site and start a new one and play around some more. That's what I have been doing because I was so totally confused about themes and what I could change and what would be part of the theme. Meanwhile I keep looking at other people's websites to decide what I like and to learn how I can achieve this.

Only when you have 'played around' and experimented and practised with different themes would I do anything drastic with the existing website.

Very good advice! Thanks, I never gave that a thought.

I never even gave that a thought either, as I am not particularly happy with my website theme either. I am using the twenty twelve theme, and I would like to place a picture in the header which it doesn't allow. Thanks for the tip.

Great idea. I'm going to do that too.

Do you mean you want to change the domain name or the title? As Mark said below you would have to transfer it all to a new domain. Before you do I would suggest setting up a free site under the siterubix domain and experimenting with different themes and layouts. Copy some of your content over and just play with it.

Only the title and tagline Craig. Any suggestions? I like the idea of playing with a free siterubix, thanks! Lydia.

Hi Lydia.

If you want to change your domain name www.kitchen-blessings.com - then you'll need to register a new domain name (namecheap, godaddy etc), and point it to WAs name servers. As you already have a site setup, I assume you know how to do this?

Next, you can use the Move link within the Build My Website section - to transfer your website to the new domain.

At this point, I would then go to Appearance -> Themes - and find a new theme that you are happy with - preview it, and install it.

Then within WordPress - click on Settings -> General - you can change your site name and tag line from there.

If your theme supports it, you may upload an image for your header (instead of text) - that you should be able to do from Appearance -> Theme Options OR Appearance -> Customize.

I hope this helps?

All the best, Mark

Hi Mark, I just want to change the site name, not the domain name. I am looking for suggestions on a new name and also on a theme, there are so many. I really can't decide what to choose.

Thanks,

Lydia.

You can change your theme by downloading and installing, header (theme dependent) in appearance and the site name and tagline in wordpress settings the only thing you can't change is your domain name unless you pay for a new one.

Backup everything first though!

Good theme but your banners on the right side don't look good

I agree with you Rufat. That's one of the reasons why I want to change the theme. The frame in the sidebar is very restricting. Any suggestions to what may be a suitable theme?

oh that is something that I am working towards sorry cannot be of much help at this stage, if you do not get answers to help you can always call upon Kyle or Carson wish you luck

Hi Lydia, I won't be any help but i'm interested in doing the same thing myself so I'll be watching your responses closely. Thanks for posing the question.
Stephanie

Looking forward to the responses. Good question.
