Hello everyone! In the last couple of days, I have been receiving some weird comments on one of my posts.
Both the name and the content of the comment is just one random num

Hi Barbara,

Yep, that's spam, you can just delete it.

Here's more training on that.

These are called bots just delete them

Okay, thank you so much!

Hey everyone, in a couple of days I will be doing a giveaway on my blog and some social networks for a Kawaii Box (a mystery box with cute items).
It is not from my website

Hi - just as an aside, remember to set some rules for your giveaway. For example, is it open to anybody worldwide? The cost of postage could be very high. How are you going to pick a winner? A random number generator is the fairest method. If you are promoting it on Facebook, don't tell people they have to share the post to be able to enter, that's against Facebook's terms.

Actually, the giveaway will be handled directly by the company, I'll just provide the link :)
I made a partnership with them, they gave me a free box and the giveaway link so I could post an unboxing/review of the product, I won't even have to deal with the name picking. ^^
But I do plan on making more giveaways on my website and I really appreciate the inputs! I still don't have much experience in this area. Thank you so much!

just advertise it in your website...:)

Oh yeah, I am definitely doing that!
But my doubt is about sharing the giveaway here, unrelated to me or my blog, just to let other affiliates participate as well. :)

Thats just it, if you ask members to participate in anything outside of WA - and it is not specifically to enhance the learning in WA, no matter what the intentions behind it, it is still spam.

It is more a courtesy thing but if you think about it, it is similar to going into MacDonalds and sitting there asking customers in there to eat some of your Carl Jnrs...same thing

That is a great example! Well said.

I understand now.
Thank you very much for your help! :)

You are welcome and all the best :)

Thanks Sondra :)

Hi, Great question! I had to look up on the rules on this since I have not noticed any giveaways being promoted in the two years that I have been a member.

I think that a give away would be technically classified as a promotion.

Here is the excerpt that I looked at.

"Please don't spam or promote anything here at WA. That ain't cool. We are a spam free community and we want to keep this a safe place for everyone to interact and get help. Promotions are to be left for your external websites."

Best wishes!!!

Thanks! I actually also looked on the rules but that's when I got more confused.
Because I am not actually promoting anything personal or from my blog, but sharing a product which I will get no commission or benefit for sharing with my affiliates here.
Well, I'll probably not share it, just to avoid problems. :)

No, a giveaway isn't spam but it should bring you some benefit.

It's called an opt-in or lead generation. You should be giving away something of value in exchange for the visitor's name and email address, automatically added to your mailing list for subsequent follow-up.

Oh yes, and I will do that on my website, but I mean here at WA, on a separate note.
I don't want to benefit from sharing the giveaway here, just help people that might be interested in the product as well :)

You shouldn't include it in a blog as any link there would be considered a promotion.

What you could probably do is mention the giveaway in a blog and invite anyone who's interested to PM you, where you'll give them the link.

That's perfect! I'll do that.
Thank you so much for your help. I know those things are sensitive and I didn't want to cause any trouble :)
