Are You Updating Your Posts? Especially Old Posts

Have you been checking your website and updating your Posts, especially your old posts as well?

As any website owner would realize creating new content is important and obviously to keep know only your website noticed but importantly have your new content ranked high in the search engines.

However, another important aspect is to keep all your older posts updated as well.

You can always go to either GSC or Bing Webmaster Tools to check any errors or parts that need fixing.

There are many who have found some posts both old and new are not indexed or show some sort of error

In a couple of recent blog posts from Phil https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/phil1944/blog/new-post-index...

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/phil1944/blog/google-indexin...

He goes on to explain a few issues he had with Google (the One that works on Island Time) with indexing. Fortunately, he got them resolved eventuality.

However, these are just one of many issues that need to be fixed.

Updating Old Posts

Over the last week or so and still doing some more I am going through all my websites and going post to post of all the content that still had Classic Editor and changing them to block editor.

Sure it takes time but certainly well worth the time spent to not old update and refreshed oldl content with added content but also gave me the opportunity to check all links to see if they are still working and valid.

I am glad I did as I found some links that were outdated a few products obsolete so that had to be changed and what I wrote on that products along with adding new links.

Also, I found some images that didn't have alt attributes added so certainly is a time well spent even a couple where somehow I forget to add the links.

Originally I had all my posts indexed but found that a few of the old ones are according to Google especially those that have been crawled but not indexed anymore..

So now I have many fixed and still some more to do to get them not only changed from Classic to the Block Editor but also go through each image and make sure all is added where it needs to be added.

Depending on the posts once done I will get them indexed straight away and later once all posts have been updated I will submit a new Sitemap to both Google and Bing and get them back in the search engines where they should be.

So that should fix some of the errors Google is telling me along with Bing but also by updating,

Re-editing, and making some further changes to old posts especially will get them not only indexed again but also ranked where they used to be on page 1 on all search engines.

Importance of Updating Old Posts

But is it also very important to update all your older content as well?

This is not just for indexing purposes but also for broken links, adding or adjusting old content, and getting them indexed again and more.

There is much to do in maintaining your websites and these are just some of the roles you play in our online world.

Remember fixing all these issues will help not only get your posts indexed and hopefully ranked up high but you are adding value to your readers.

No one wants to click a link and find there is an error or doesn't take you anywhere where it should.

The visitor will just give up and leave and go elsewhere in the meantime you have lost a possible reader and also a sale and obviously commission along the way.

Classic Editor

Many will know that when we first started with had that wonderful plugin called Classic Editor which was simple and great at the time.

Later a new player came into being in Gutenbury which now is known as the Block Edittor..

This certainly changes the perspective of how our content would look with all the added features including that Classic Editor didn't have.

Yes many people didn't like the block editor I was one of them and for a while didn't want to change but slowly and surely I started to like block editor the more I got used to it.

Even now they add so many added features available to you that classic could not be able to handle.

Now I love the Block Editor and although Classic has now become a sweet memory of what it used to be I wouldn't go back to the past with this.

Broken Links

For those who want to find out if they have any broken links, rather than going from post to post.

There is a free plugin that can save you much time and once done you can safely delete the plugin as it need not be there when you have fixed any broken links you may have.

The plugin is called Broken Link Checker

For those who are not sure how to find it go to your website dashboard and click plugins then add new which you will see at the top

On the right search box type broken link checker and a variety of options come up.

here is the image for the one I use all you need to do is install, and activate and you will then see a bit further down on your dashboard the words link checked.

You can leave the default setting as is and once you click the link checker it will show you if you have any broken links to enable you to fix them.

Once all has been fixed you can then safely delete the plugin.

.

Conclusion

So now you know the need to maintain your website not only for creating current and new Unique content but for the benefit of your readers.

But also the need to keep the maintenance of your website with old content along with fixing any issues you may have found.

This could be broken links, affiliate links not added or outdated, adding Alt Text and Alt attributes, and if those of you who still have Classic Editor to start making changes and have them changes to block Editor.

The Classic Editor plugin will still be available for now for how long that will be up to the creator of the plugin but after a certain time, it will no longer be supported that is a fact.

So if you haven't already started to learn more about the block editor to make the changes.

I know, changing from old habits to something new especially when you feel it is working as is may seem strange but remember as your website involves so will the plugins and other details.

If you want to go forward with your own online business changes at times need to be made.

Some may say why should I do that when the wheel is not broken?

Well, the wheel may not be broken at the moment but as we more forward and traveling more along the way online those wheels need to be reinforced and strengthen to make the journey online better and more enjoyable.

As I said I didn't like the change but now I am loving using the Block Editor and adding that to GeneratePress as my Thems makes it even better which has many features itself now that you don't even need other page builders to get the same results and you can have them for free.

Questions To You

So the questions I am asking you is.

Are you updating your old posts?

Checking any broken links.

Are you ensuring you have your Alt attributes and Alt Images and more.

Is there anything you need to do or have done to make your website the best there is for your readers? Not just for the search engines but for your readers as well.

Some may not think or feel some areas are important but that's fine for them just know that this is not their website but yours and you are the one that needs to make the right informed decisions just like your visitor will do the same when they come to your website.

Would love to hear your thoughts and what actions you have taken recently to ensure you have the most up-to-date website that includes Updating Your Old Posts and more.

Your likes, support, and comments are always appreciated and you never know that your comment alone may help someone else along their journey online.

Thank you for your precious time.

Thank you Andre for the information. I attempted a couple of times to repost and update a few words, but I could not seem to make it happen. Not sure what I did. I am still learning that part of our platform.
Carla

Thanks for the reminder, because I had forgotten.

Some great advice in this post, Andre. Thank you.

Over the past few months, I have updated several posts on one of my sites. I do struggle with the Block Editor. Although I've been trying to use it constantly, I have sometimes needed the Classic Editor. But now it's difficult to access the Classic Editor even though I've installed the plugin!

Updating posts in the Block Editor is very time-consuming, but I need to persevere!

I find the Block Editor simple for new posts but not for updating posts.

In other words, I continue to struggle but live in hopes of mastering the process, as required!

Valerie

Ho Valerie I had the same issue at first it is just a matter of getting used to it with the blocks.
One thing I did notices with Classic when converting to Block i have found so headers or paragraphs that seem to get added in once they have been converted from Classic to Block.
So there are times i needed to delete a heading that was blank or paragraph.

But with constant practice it will work out best.

Wishing you well
Andre

Thanks for your response, Andre.
I need to go with the old saying - Practice Makes Perfect!

I'll watch carefully to make sure there are no add-in headers or paragraphs. Thanks for the warning!

Best wishes to you, Andre.
Valerie

Most welcome Valerie

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a great weekend when it comes.

Andre

Thanks Andre, yes as I come across my older posts, especially via internal links I update.
Some of my first posts are quite cringe worthy…but I guess that goes with the flow.
Thanks for the heads up on the broken link checker…now if I could only find a plugin that gives me 3 more hours in a day….
Stephen

Thanks for the tips, Andre. These are all great practices that everyone should follow.

I’m not sure if you’ve mentioned this or not (apologies if you have) but another good thing to do whilst going through your old posts is to add internal hyperlinks/links to newer content, wherever possible.

Thanks again,

Maria

You are welcome Maria no didn't mention them specifically but just stated at the bottom if there is anything else that needs to be done.
Your tip is vital as well.

Thank you for that

much appreciated.
Andre

Awesome! Yes, I saw that and it prompted me to mention it. 👍

Great to hear Maria again thank you there is so many aspects if I added them all here I would start to sound like Partha HAhahah

Andre :)

Hi Andre,

I do fix old posts but not so much lately due to errors I am getting in Core Web Vitals, on GSC. It is giving me errors in about 20 posts as they are taking too long to load for various reasons. The errors are sometimes LCP, and a lot of render-blocking. Unfortunately, I have no ideas how to fix these problems. I have had these problems since July 2 so the month of July has been very unproductive. So for now, I am mostly focusing on new content and trying to figure out how to fix these problems. I am trying to make up for the shortage of posts I have created since July 2.

Thanks very much,

Barbara

Hi Barbara sorry to hear you are having some issues have you asked the community as someone might have a solution or have faced the same issues.
Enjoy the rest of your week

Andre

Yes, I have asked, but I might try again after a while.

thanks very much, Andre!

Barbara

good someone should be able to have the right answer

I will try again at some point.

Barbara

Go for it Barbara and enjoy your day/evening

Andre
