I made an ad which I designed myself and placed it in my side bar using this code. I uploaded the ad picture and filled in the correct urls:

Here's a tip for how to use the WP editor to help you get the right code to place a clickable Ad into any Widget on your site.
1. Upload the image or Banner to your media files.
2. Open the WP editor
3. Click the Add Image icon to insert the image where you wish it to appear (centered, left aligned or right aligned).
4. Click on the image in the editor to select it.
5. In the editor buttons area, click on the Link chain button.
6. Type in the field your Affiliate URL.
7. Select the option to open the link a New Window.
8. Save it all as a DRAFT only.
9. Go to Appearances > Widgets > Select Text Widget.
9. Go back and switch to Text mode in the DRAFT editor.
10. Copy and paste the image code from the WP editor into the text area of the Widget and save.
Your widget should now appear with a clickable image in your sidebar or wherever you wish to locate the widget on your site.

I'm unsure how to solve this problem for you since I'm new myself as well, but maybe you could try messaging one of the highly ranked ambassadors or Kyle himself to get their input?
Or better yet, see if you can locate a WA member who's a coder or web developer, or see if know anyone personally who knows code well.
Have you tried changing the size of the image? Sometimes the width of the image is larger than the width of the column. This may cause display problems with the image.

Check the size (width) of the image as well. It may be too wide to display correctly in the side bar.
