Working On The Business As Opposed To Working In It.
Starting out online we are like that proverbial restauranter, food procurer, food prepper, chief chef, bottle washer, the front of house, waiter/waitress, marketing manager, manager, owner all rolled into one, oh and the person who takes out the trash at the end of the day.
In the initial phases, it is full on and it continues to be that way until one of or two things happen. We start seeing results in the form of sales and dollars coming in or we change or tweak our mindset.
Both can help us to scale our businesses.
There is that famous saying to succeed in business;
You need to be working on your business and not in your business.
Oh great, idea, have you seen my to-do list for today?
That saying used to drive me nuts, usually expressed by some hyper, wearing a suit.
The crowd goes " oh yay ".
It can take time, to reach that level, however, we can start out early in the piece and work on our goals and aspirations, that is where that mindset tweak comes in.
We all need that core level of knowledge for some of us it takes a little longer to acquire it, for some it comes fairly readily. It doesn't matter what camp we belong in as long as we keep going, it is all good.
The key it seems is how we use that knowledge, how we use resources to create assets, and how we bring everything together.
Kind of had one of those days today I have been humming and haring about investing in some software, you may know the feeling, do we invest in that upgrade of Jaaxy, or that premium theme do we buy that domain name that came to us in that "3 am flash of genius ", do we purchase that new phone or camera.
That upsey, downsey, round abouty.
Is it a " do we let it slide or do we take action kind of day?"
It's not that shiny object lurking, it's about building assets that enhance our ability to grow our businesses.
One of the things that I am starting to notice is that we don't have to rush out and try to do things by yesterday. The best results are obtained by chipping away, day after day.
As soon as we start to plan and think strategically we are transitioning to that mindset where we are starting to work on our businesses instead of working full time in them. It is like developing an overview whereby the small things don't trip or hang us up.
In the big, there is the small and in the small, there is the big.
It may seem a simple process, focusing on that end game or where we want to be and the results that we want to achieve, can be empowering and it can bring results.
One of the first steps is to claim it, everyone comes to online marketing with a kind of dream or a vision that is focused on lifestyle enhancements.
Own it.
Just that process can bring change, to the project that you are working on. Kind of like juggling those three balls keeping them in the air and for good measure chucking in another three, just to make things interesting.
At the end of the day, we all need to back ourselves, the decisions that we make and the actions that we take.
I haven't come across anyone who has seriously broken the internet lately, so it is safe to say it is all good to go. You may feel like you are slaving away in your business but by the default of being immersed here in the Wealthy Affiliate knowledge base and resources, chances are that you are actually transitioning to that position of working on your businesses without even realizing it.
I know that I am, it is kind of weird, you get to a certain point on the journey and you just know.

Thanks for the blog, many times I have had to step back and evaluate what really needs done, since I have signed up for WA my mind is spinning coming up with more and more ideas and trying to figure out which direction to go.

Hi Dena, it can be hard to stay focused there are so many opportunities out there. Focusing on one thing at a time seems to work really well.
Sticking with the program works pretty well also, there is plenty of time to expand as we move down the road,

Thanks Alex, focusing is important and sometimes I find myself having issues with that. As I look around I have many tasks that are started, and am working to complete those tasks before moving on. It is a struggle for me at times.
The thing is that we can all struggle with that so you are not alone. One of the keys to getting things under control is creating that all important to do list. it works very well and there is something really motivating about ticking things off the list as completed.

It doesn't all have to happen today, but slowly investing and reinvesting in your business will ensure you are "working on your business"

I am reassessing what I really want to achieve this year. I haven't been very motivated in my WA tasks lately because I am focusing so much with my local business and it's kinda draining me.
I know I just have to manage my time better and I think I am restarting my lessons from the beginning and hopefully get results eventually.

Good to see you, we can arrive across roads and it can be about choosing the direction that we want to travel.
How is your local business going? it can be hard keeping all the balls in the air sometimes. working at that local level can take some time to build some momentum, there is a wealth of information here that can be really helpful most notably the live training that Jay has done on the subject. I am assuming that it is online based and focused.
I find that stepping back can be really helpful, time is something that can push us all.

The business is kinda now picking up. It's one of the things I really love to do.
And yes you are right, there's so much to learn here. I definitely agree with you. I know that I have to snapped out of my habit of procrastinating.
I am guilty and I don't deny that. That is really something I need to change, start fresh and get into the momentum of having that clarity of what I really want to achieve.
And I will start today. In fact I am rewriting my goals. Doing it one at a time until the goal is realized.
I will hold myself accountable to that.

It can take time to build any business, I think that what can give us a head start is if we like what we are doing otherwise we are tending to be replacing like with like, in that not many folks like their jobs, building that business can be what really helps us to break free from those traditional concepts.
You will be pleased that your business is picking up, we can pick up clients and it can be surprising how the word of mouth can actually help us to grow even if we are dealing with an online commodity.
Procrastination can be something that affects us all, I guess that the key is to recognize that we are affected by it and like you are now doing making some changes to effect change.

Nice post Alex, I think you listed most of my earlier day professions and jobs at the top there!
It's identifying our strengths, many are doing the same, all have the same resumes, all going for the same salary.
We are all in sales, selling our visions and we are asking people to buy into us - PEOPLE ARE BUYING PEOPLE.
We are creating or have the potential to create special things from this platform!
Once you get rid of the noise and clutter and all the rubbish and just focus on your goal - it's Cracked!

When you are starting out, your solely focused on creating new content. It is hard to step back and say what can I improve that I have already created.
I'm in that process now. I m now starting to see what works and what doesn't work so well. This is an everyday learning process.
