I noticed that when I embed a YouTube video on my site after it plays whatever other YouTube videos YouTube wishes to suggest are displayed and played.

Is there any way

You can stop this I think by embedding a video but of course the downside is your readers have to leave your site to go to y
Youtube and you have lost them

To me, it's a huge downside of linking to a YouTube video - the fact that YouTube tries to hijack your visitor. That's why I always embed my videos on my site.

I did some digging:

You can input the code below.

src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID?rel=0"

But it will possibly still show videos from the same publisher vs random.

===

The other thing you can do is utilize payers like Video.js or Plyr to have more control.

===
The third option requiring technical assistance is the use of Javascript, but I don't know how. I need to do further digging here.

I appreciate that!! The digging :)

Np, and happy to have done; I also learned. Please keep us posted on your progress.

A banner?

Thank you :)

i would use a plugin like ad inserter....
with this you can add banners in certain places and selected places....
install it - activate it and view a post and in the top bar you will see ad inserter - activate the locations and you will see where you can place banners or ads....
i have a little training on using ad inserter

Do I just search for "ad inserter" to view the training?

if you goto the profile and search through the training you would find it...
but here it is

Thank you

You could also put a banner up top if you like. Can I ask what its purpose is?

https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-display-announcements-in-your-wordpress-blog/

For sure :) To announce that new videos have been uploaded basically ... also I am just kind of experimenting :)

Yeah, see how this goes :) If you have a subscriber list, you can always send them a broadcast as well :)

Thank you!

You are welcome, Kristen :)

I understand how to move a siterubix site to a .com domain, but I was wondering:

Is there a way to move an existing site to a new site so it is a SUBPART of the new, lar

I wouldn't move an established website over to a new website. I would instead either run these sites completely separately, or in the case of your example, create an upcycling section within your Wood Furniture website.

If it constitutes having it's own domain, I would keep this project entirely separate. :)

Yup, you can move any website to another... Except that the destination website would be wiped out. I don't know of a semi-elegant way...

Can you do a redirect on individual posts? Or simply copy the most relevant posts and make the new posts on your new site?

Or maybe its just better to externally link the two sites?

If indexed, I'd probably do 301 directs or, as you say, copy the relevant posts over if not indexed.

Or strategically link.

Phil has you covered here! I have done keyword research and have added some of my own also!

But has this also happened to you? Fewer than 10 categories?

I can't say it has but I dont know your niche either.

does this mean that it maybe too narrow a niche....
what are the results like on google...
is there more varied results - more categories available
can you think of other and have you added them to hubs to see what results you get...

I doubt it's too narrow - too broad if anything.

Kyle is checking. I'll share what he finds if he doesn't himself :)

Thanks for responding.

i've had several that have only 3 or 4 categories....
depends on what you expect...

Hmm ... interesting.

Strange, can you drop me a PM to let me know which Hub created a more limited subset of categories. Could be the specificity of it.

For sure.

Just sent.

I guess my thing in once I mind map my site what do I then do technically in WordPress to create that organization?

Since it varies from site to site, perhaps a few case studies of common organization approaches? So that the WordPress techniques that underpin them can be learned?

If not, I'll muddle through.

To add to what Eric says I would also add a legalities and add disclaimers, privacy policy etc

what other elements are you looking to add to make your site feel more complete to you?

I could possibly do a Wordpress Wisdom on this. Off the top of my head I'm thinking about the addition of a categories tab in your menu, a search, a contact page. Those to me tend to add to the overall feel of the site. The categories tab in particular allows your readers to then see all your categories of content and upon clicking a category, open up several blog posts they may not have seen before, and of course they're highly relevant to what they're looking for because they're all related to the same category.

Please express the latest post again and how you can make it display certain categories rather than just the latest post by default. (Just a Suggestion and Not an Order!)

"what other elements are you looking to add to make your site feel more complete to you?"

Hmmm ... how to answer this.

First, yeah, a WordPress Wisdom would be great.

Second, I think what I am currently struggling to wrap my head around is:
(1) Once I create a static page as my home page, where does the blog roll go off to and how do I best link to that?
(2) If I were to create pillar posts for each HUBS category what's the best way to group my subcategory posts under those pillars both for navigation and UX?

But while those are the questions that pop into my mind, I bet there's more. I feel like I only know how to set up the most rudimentary navigation and the more HUBS categories/posts I add the more cluttered and clunky it gets.

So maybe question three ...

(3) How do you conceive of and create a hierarchy of organization on your site that serves UX?

Thank you!

That is done by creating a menu of certain categories

Thanks guys.

Maybe Eric will want to create a Class Series?

I will check out. Thanks again Michael G ... you're like my new best friend from the great state of Texas no less :)

Thanks!

When you create a static page, you can either keep it ultra simple or use it to showcase all the different elements your site brings. Your blogroll can then be accessed either via the main menu, or through a link on your static page, or both. You can also customize a blog page where, instead of the basic listing of posts, you have a grid, a search, or more.

Here's a tutorial I did on customizing your blog roll: You can also check my dominatechess.com site for my take on an ultra simple, minimalist static page and utilizing a customized blog page and categories page.

With pillar posts they tend to be easily found simply because so much content links back to them. But you can also place links to them, for example, in the sidebar of posts, or even as their own menu item.

Ultimately, it's you who decides on the flow for your site. You just want to allow your audience the ability to access what you feel are the pieces of content they need to see the most.

Take the pressure off and just arrive at your site's homepage. Start naturally clicking on where it's taking you, and assess its flow. Then decide on what it's lacking or not and make those adjustments :)

It's totally normal, and I've done it countless times. 👍🏼

Thank you.

Here you go man. I cover that in this WW tutorial:

May want to look into using tags. Here is a brief video by Eric, I included an image of my tag cloud to show you what it could look like.

Thank you for that speedy reply :)

I updated my response with an image.

And you are very welcome!

If you use tags, I can offer this experience. Remain focused instead of creating random tags. Less is more. They are like mini categories and to be effective for user experience, limit the number so they can find your topics more efficiently when searching.

I learned this the hard way. I hope it helps.

Thank you ... I am friends with the hard way :)

I have the hard way on speed dial! Trust me, we are close friends as well.
