Can any video experts help me?
Since I am in NYC, and I"m a teacher, I've suddenly been thrown into remote learning. The online skill set needed is the same I need for marketing. Communicating simply and effectively on video is important right now to help my students feel safe and calm. I teach grades K-8, so I know the little ones especially will do better with video instruction
I know how to make screen recordings/tutorial videos with my voice - I use an external mike - on Quicktime. on my macBook. It's actually very easy to do.
But what I'd also like to do, and eventually do for my websites as well, is make a screen recording to explain what I'm doing with my head talking as an insert. I don't know if this makes sense. I've seen the youtube gamers do. Play a game, record the screen as their playing while a view of them talking to their audience is also on the screen.
I've seen some of the marketers do it here as well on their training. I just can't think clearly right now to remember who to reach out to. So I"m asking the whole community at the same time. Thanks for any help you can give me.
I hope you and your families are safe and healthy.

Hi Wendy. The only training we can recall seeing that might help you is by Jay, the WA live training coach. He did a series of webinars specifically geared to Youtube videos but there was one in particular where he discussed how to set up for recording video and in particular how to include yourself in the video, as you mention. Here is the link: Produce, Record & Uploading Your YouTube Videos Hope this helps and good luck.

Just be aware you are going to need some additional equipment including an external camera, green screen, and lighting as well as specialized recording software as Chris mentioned.
Actually from doing some research today, I don't need more stuff. I do have an external microphone which is helpful for better sound quality.
But it appears that Quicktime which is included with all macs - does everything without needing extra equipment. Yet another reason to love the Mac. :-)
That's news to us, we have a Macbook Pro so we are definitely going to check that out. So you are saying you can record your screen and yourself just from the computer? Have you actually done that?
Well, so far I've recorded what I'm doing on the screen while I"m talking. I'm recording videos for the 6-9 year old crowd so I have to keep it simple. The kids are thrilled.
I have't put my face in there yet, I will try to do that soon. Yes, there is a reason Macs are so expensive - they come with a lot of cool stuff that PC users have to pay extra for. :-)
It's putting you face there that requires the additional camera, at least that was our understanding, but if you can manage it with your Mac's camera that's great. Please let us know if you succeed.
I'm using Quicktime to record voice and what I'm doing on the screen, but it doesn't seem to have the ability to include me in the screen recording. Thank you for trying to help. :-)
I was wrong. Quicktime lets me do it all. I just found a good tutorial on Youtube. Thank you!
I'm trying, but WA doesn't let me. It keeps saying URL's can not contain parameters. I have no idea what that means.
Use YouTube shortened link when you click “share” on the video.
Affiliate links usually contain question marks, so WA doesn’t allow posting links with question marks on them.
But the shortened YouTube link doesn’t contain one
Do this - type in the exact title of the video on youtube and it should come up:

Watch some of Msgitudios classes. I think he uses upStream. I use zoom. I. simply. record my sessions. I can show my screen when appropriate and show my talking head when I want to. I try. to have a couple of people I'm teaching to get some interaction, but it really isn't necessary. Keep it simple & short.
PM me if you have questions.
I use Camtasia to edit my video projects, but it is overkill for what you want to do. Zoom is free. 40 minutes free if you are talking with more than one person.

iMovie comes on your Mac and is a good video editor designed for beginners.
