Direct Affiliate Marketing: Situations Where it Can Work

Direct affiliate linking is a strategy where you steer people from 1 source straight to the affiliate offer you are promoting. Here's an example:

Normal funnels (typically the best way to do it):

People find your page on Google --> Visit your site that presells affiliate offer --> Visit affiliate page to buy

Direct affiliate funnels:

PPC ad on buying a specific belly fat loss program --> Straight to the vendor page (no landing page in between)

There are few circumstances where direct affiliate marketing can work well in my experience but the 2 circumstances featured in the video above have a lot of potential when done right! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this strategy :)

I think this would depend on the company that you use. Etsy, for example, does absolutely not allow straight affiliate links on Pinterest or on Facebook (groups). It's a bummer, cause one of my groups is so large and my Pinterest has 8K followers. And they even asked me to remove former affiliate links in my own group, while their rules were so confusing (in Dutch), that I used to do this.
Amazon does allow it, but you NEED TO MENTION ALL PROMOTION channels to Amazon.
So my advice would be to be absolutely sure that you can do this by the company's rules.
I would always prefer affiliate links on your posts though.
Or place straight up affiliate links only on parasite platforms like Reddit, with totally other stuff than what you do on your site. Then you can take the risque and go for those high end tickets without risking your site form of income:-)
I think it is always a risque doing this, especially if you already build up decent traffic to your site on for example Pinterest, I can't imagine losing my account now if I do this.

All great points. Thanks for sharing this Lizzy!

welcome Vitaly!

Great stuff Vitaliy!! Much appreciated as always my friend!!

Thanks for the idea! I tried to direct a link to WA from Pinterest once. It just kept spinning and never did end up posting the pin. I changed the message and the link and then it went through immediately. Apparently it does not like direct links to WA.

Karin

It depends on the link and timing. I've had pins get stuck on loading when I try to publish them too when I wasn't direct linking. I had to refresh the page and try it again for it to go through. Pinterest has their own policies on affiliate links and they do allow it: https://newsroom-archive.pinterest.com/en-gb/affiliate-link-guide-to-pinterest

I will have to try it again. Thanks for the link to the guide!

Karin

Thanks Vitaliy, I haven't done it but it's worth a try.

Hi Vitaliy

At some point, I might give direct marketing a try on my Pinterest account. I think it could be successful with paid ad pins.

However, I’ve read that some people have had their Pinterest account banned for using this approach.

I contacted Pinterest about three months ago and they said “it is permissible under certain circumstances,” but wouldn’t be more specific.

I’ll be interested in hearing how you make out.

All the Best!

That isn't beneficial; why are they not being transparent? Could you find this information in their knowledge base, perhaps?

Hi Abie

Back then, I did an online search, but wasn’t able to resolve the issue to my satisfaction.

Please let us know if you find more useful information.

I think that, many times, accounts get inappropriately banned on social channels by bots.

Happy Sunday! 😎

Yes this is common because some people just spam low quality offers and scams and this often leads to Pinterest stepping in. Basically abuse, hence their vague statement.

If you do this, I'd try it on a brand new account just in case.

I see. Thanks for the clarification.

They should mention those remarks within their guidelines, not that they will apply to me, as I try my best to do everything diligently.

Abie

Yeah, a brand new account, for sure, Vitaliy!

Enjoy your Sunday! 😎
Frank 🎸

Yeah, I see your point; nearly all social media platforms act the same with new accounts.

I will keep at eye and will sure let you know.

Abie

Thanks, Abie! 😎😎

No problem, Frank!

Abie

Yeah they are often vague about it which confuses people a lot. I don't blame anyone for feeling confused.

this is what chatGPT says:

" Yes, Pinterest allows the use of affiliate links on its platform. However, there are some important guidelines to follow:

Disclosure: Pinterest requires that users clearly disclose when they are using affiliate links. This helps maintain transparency with your audience, and in some regions, it's legally required.

Relevance: The affiliate links you post should be relevant to the content you’re pinning. Pinterest encourages high-quality, useful pins that add value to users, so avoid spammy or misleading links.

No Shorteners: Pinterest doesn't allow URL shorteners for affiliate links. You'll need to use the full affiliate URL when adding links to your pins.

Spam Policy: Make sure to avoid spammy behavior, such as posting the same affiliate link repeatedly or creating low-quality content. Violating Pinterest's spam policies can lead to suspension or banning of your account.

If you plan to monetize your Pinterest account through affiliate marketing, it’s a good idea to stay updated on Pinterest’s policies, as they may change over time."

Thanks, Lizzy!

Yeah, that is my understanding, too. 😎
