Taking Time for a Break to Ask Questions Day 19 of 23

This break proved not exactly the best way to ask questions, and that is due to my negligence.

This afternoon, for the want of a topic to write about today, I took time out from emails, WA and my websites. I did this to allow myself a visit to an old friend by the name of AnswerthePublic.

As usual, I was welcomed by the same gentleman. Even though he is a gentleman he doesn’t have much tolerance for someone who’s stuck for words!

So, not having any ideas I asked the best question I could think of. The answers received from that question were not good. This proved my question was not well-thought-out.

I then paid another visit to this gentleman. The second response gave many more answers, but still they weren’t what I was looking for.

I believe it was a total of 5 attempts I had made to receive some helpful answers. But, I still wasn’t happy so I returned to ask a different question.

Too late. This gentleman had shut the door on me for today. He had a notice on his door - You can return tomorrow, or words to that effect.

Lesson Learned

When we ask a question, we must be clear about saying exactly what it is we need to know.

If a question is not asked correctly, a helpful answer is not going to be given.

I sometimes see questions on WA that are not good questions. What the member is seeking to know, is not clear. Therefore, I choose not to answer. My philosophy being that I do not wish to cause confusion.

Whether it’s in WA, on someone’s website, or maybe a platform such as Quora, if we are asking a question it is important to state clearly what we don't know. Or, what we don't understand.

Learn from the Training

Often the answer to a question is already within training. That’s why it is important to read carefully all the information provided.

This applies not only to WA but to all programs.

The program AnswertheAudience provides training on how to correctly use this resource. I have never read the training. Therefore, I do not receive benefit such as I am seeking.

When I’m allowed back to AnswertheAudience, I will read their training instructions before I ask another question.

Hopefully, my experience this afternoon is of help.

Insightful as usual Lady Valerie!

Thank you, Stacey, for your very kind message :)

To ask we first need to think. The community here is very busy but when in need someone always helps. Forming words to clearly define what we need help with can speed the process. Some are not taught to communicate well so it is all in the training. We are all teachers as well as students I think.
Thanks for bringing the issue for viewing. Always helps. Linda

Thanks very much for your comment, Linda.

Good afternoon Valerie,

I have never heard about AnswertheAudience, looks like an interesting option.
I normally ask my better half as he is a walking encyclopedia.
We are going on a little trip this coming week so you might not see me for some days.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Good afternoon, Taetske,

How wonderful to have a walking encyclopedia. That must be the perfect solution to finding ideas. You have the ability to ask question after question to ensure you have the information you need. I'm sure Michael wouldn't block you after 5 questions!

Enjoy your trip. I look forward to reading about your experience.

All the best _ Valerie

No, but he might pretend he is deaf.

Ha..ha...! Good one, Taetske

You're absolutely right. In computer speak it's GIGO...Garbage in garbage out...The question utility here is excellent as it allows the 'search' using single words and then phrases.

I haven't used the WA question feature to search for ideas for writing content. I used it only to find a solution to a problem.
So thanks, Twack. It could be the answer to future content creation.

Yes Valerie you are right on all counts.

Thank you Snazzy.
Much appreciated :)
