Hello Everyone at WA!

I'm back for another go! I joined WA a few years ago when I was right in the middle of training for another career and I just didn't have the time to devote to it. Now having got married and having two beautiful girls I think the time is right to relaunch and see what I can do this time.

I don't mind admitting that this is making my insides clench in fear at the sheer scale of what could possibly be ahead of me but I'm going to throw myself in to the community here by asking for help, hopefully making some friends and then when I've found my feet I will do my best to help others succeed!

As for me well I'm your average English/Scottish/Irish guy who loves football (as in real football although the American variety isn't bad either!) video games, travelling, learning languages and of course my family and friends.

See you around!

Paul

Paul, hi, thanks for joining my WA network.

You are correct, it is a ton of work, but just keep chipping away, a little a time and before you know it a thousand miles will be under your feet and behind you.

Real football huh ;-) not rugby with pads ;-) I like both actually, and my dad is a huge Man United fan since the 50s...coming from Manchester, of course, it was always arguments of United v City, Red or Blue, Trafford or Maine Road. Some of my cousins and uncles are City fans...

One of my dad's all-time favourite jokes was why do Man City play at Main Road? Cos they can't afford a football ground...of course not true anymore!!!

Or his other one was Citys keeper is so slow he goes down for the ball in instalments...which always made me chuckle...I think he said just to upset people who were Joe Corrigan fans...

Of course, he always hated going to Maine Road...and would rather go to watch Oldham Athletic than go down Moss Side way...which was always handy as my uncle lived 5 minutes from Boundary Park...and my cousin lived on Chapel Road, right in front of the training ground.

I used to live right behind Oldham Rugby League FC, so used to watch lots of rugger too...

I wish you all the very best of success in your journey.

Hi Neil

Thank you for replying to me. I'm finding getting started here an absolute nightmare because there's so much information here from so many people that when I try and focus on doing something, I find an article from someone who claims to do it better and I never get anything done! Do you have this problem as well?

Actually I used to be an Everton fan up until 2000 after which I kind of became an anti-Man Utd fan especially around the turn of the century when they seemed to think they were too good for anyone (FA Cup withdrawal? lol). Still I don't mind them too much now.

My favourite joke from the time:

How many Man Utd fans does it take to change a lightbulb?
Two - One to change it and one to drive him up from Surrey!

have a good day!

Haha, yeah Paul, my dad used to get the right hump about 'out of town' fans...I think at one point somewhere like Hong Kong (can't remember where it was now) had this huge amount of fans, biggest outside Manchester...he was livid because they were getting press coverage ;-) lol...

He has calmed down a bit in his old age, in his 70s now, and still loves to watch, but is happy with a biscuit and tea and seeing it on the TV...just shouts at the telly instead these days...and don't even get started about the England squad he would be red with fury...

Anyway, yes you need to be careful here, the social thing is very distracting if you are not careful...I am getting a little jaded with some of it...

I tend not to get too caught up with what other people claim they know.

I have been using WP and computers for a long time now, and been installing WP on servers since WP 2x.

I have been working as a system admin for Windows servers/PCs, networks and domains, and as a software support tech, for such things as Microsoft Office/Office 365, Sage, QBooks, Act! and others, and as a PC tech for over 20 years.

I have been a sysadmin for web servers and setup hundreds of LAMP stacks/boxes and a security setup tech (aka hardening web servers running Debian and Ubuntu) on and off for about 10 years. So I have a kind of richer understanding of some of the elements going on around here and though of course, I am more than happy to accept I do not know all there is to know, how can I, I do know twaddle and nonsense when I see it.

I personally joined WA to learn more about the Affiliate stuff, I have been through the lessons, all of them, and had no need for the WP setup stuff of course, but did them anyway so I could help others if needed and I wanted to see what the lessons could bring to me.

I have been making good progress with learning about such as Commission Junction, Amazon etc, and am pleased with what WA has to offer me at this time.

Honestly, there are some very good things, people and articles here at WA, but I also get rather frustrated with the some of the misinformation that gets passed about, and a few other things.

I try my best, if I can be bothered these days, to address this, which to be fair, sometimes I can't, because sometimes, it is a pointless waste of effort, and alas some stuff sticks like sh!t to a wool blanket and just won't go away...

My advice, work through the lessons, at a solid pace but make sure you understand everything before you move on. If you get lost, then ask, and always check out stuff you get told if you are still not sure, or ask someone else. I always go back over it all again, just to make sure it has all been covered too.

Another thing with the lessons, always take action, if you cannot complete the action at that time, don't just tick it off in haste to get to the next lesson, you can, of course, move to the next lesson, but make sure you go back and do whatever it was you did not do before...

For example, I am showing as completed course 2, I am actually just at course 4, but I have not ticked off all the actions yet in course 3, so will revisit those and when I am happy, will tick them off.

Learn from those who know and don't be fooled by 'popularity' either', and remember Google is your friend!

The best advice you can get, educate yourself.

Best wishes

Neil

Hello Paul,♫Welcome! Nice to meet you ツ I wish you a lot of learning pleasure and fun on WA. Thank you for adding me to your network.

From the start, I have written training for every issue I had problems with myself. I made an addition for After The Walkthrough. Also a list of 1001 niche ideas, a checklist with 25 points to go through before you publish a post, 101 blogging ideas when you get stuck and an A-Z WA dictionary. I just love lists:) It has been very helpful to a lot of people. I have listed them in one blog you can find on my profile. It's the first website link right under “Follow me on” (click on my picture to get there). I hope to help you with those.

If you have any questions, please reply to this message or leave a comment on my profile.
Success building your business in 2017. See you around, Greetings Loes

Thanks for responding Steve. I'm going through the training right now and am now on the perennial question of what niche to choose hehe! Once I decide on something would I be able to get some feedback from you perhaps?

thank you!

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Hi Kyle :) Things are going well for me here I think. I've just responded to a question for the first time and got a lovely reply back saying that I'd helped which is astounding as I don't feel I really have any experience to share at the moment!

I'm setting up my first website now which is also something I never thought I'd do. The niche I've chosen is UK (or English) wines. What do you think? Too broad still for a niche?

I know you're extremely busy but I'd be very grateful for a reply or if you know someone on this site who happens to be in a similar niche that would be helpful too :)

thank you

kind regards

Paul

I definitely don't think that is too broad and this is definitely a direction you can head Paul. I like it!

Hey thank you so much for replying Kyle! I think it's something I can at least start with.

I have one more question though. As it's just British (UK) wines I'll be promoting do you think I'm locking myself out of markets such as the US and any countries with stricter alcohol shipping laws?

This worries me especially as I will be having a .com domain name and I want to market to as many people around the world as possible. Perhaps I won't be able to?

Anyway, if you're able to reply at some point that would be amazing and then I'll leave you alone!

take care

Paul

Yes, you will be likely locking yourself out of other markets if you are just promoting UK wines to people in the UK. There are definitely shipping/duty laws cross border, so if you want to sell to the US you would likely want to be affiliating with companies that reside in the US.

I know in Canada, we cannot ship wine from the US into Canada online.

Hey Paul, just wanted to pop back and see how you are doing? I noticed that you haven't quite set-up your account yet, just wanted to let you know there is a video on how to do this if there is any confusion. Setting up your account will lead to much better help here within the community as people feel like they can connect with you better (with an image and a description)

Just wanted to make sure that all was good and if you do need a hand with anything, just let me know! :)
