Six And A Half Minutes That Could Change Your Life.

Six and a half minutes that could change your life. Well, how am I going to justify, or qualify,

such a gargantuan statement. REM are playing in my headphones, digitally remastered and recreated with a 'House' vibe, so I'd say the odds are pretty good.

If, you're like me, then you'll have the occasional email come through from something you've subscribed to. For the most part I delete and move on. Today I didn't. Maybe it was that catchy first line that piqued my interest enough to click on through to the body of the text. Happy to do so today.

I followed a link that took me to a video, loosely described as a 'must' to watch and listen to first thing in the morning, motivational stuff. Why not. I had purpose though. I wanted to get something from this, it was more of an exercise in gaining inspiration. If I'm going to lose six and a half minutes I'm darned well going to make sure I get something in return.

Two and a half pages worth of notes later and here I am, ready to impart what I have learnt. Whether you find it of use, who knows. Maybe if you read this with the same intent I had then you will come away with a little gem, or not.

As an aside and going back to the title, life can change in much less time than six minutes. Think about that for second. For good or bad. "You're fired" and "I quit" two sides of the same coin with very different outcomes. Digression over, I move on.

I have found that I learn best with note-taking, adding into that a visual element and it took it up a notch, hence the amount of notes. Short form coming up, with a few of what I thought worthy enough to write down.

The first things that came out at me were the following statements:

'I am the one who controls my day. No one can affect your day but you. Create a morning routine that puts you in control. Be bigger than your excuses.'

I love that last part. Be bigger than your excuses. We can all find an excuse not to do something.

Most of the what we do comes down to one thing, well two but they're the same, sort of. Decisions. Do I or don't I ? There might be some prevaricating along the way but when you get to a point, it's going to be down to whether you do it, or don't. Very binary. You can dress it up all you want, crossroads, choices, difficulty, ramifications, consequences and so on. Press the button or don't. Simples.

The next section of the video was harder hitting, which I liked because it made me stop and pay more attention. How many times do we watch or listen to something and so want to remember it because it just hits the mark. How many of those things can you remember today? I'll wager (Old Skool) not many and how many words have you read over the years ? Millions.

Here it is:

Get up and out of bed. Do not press 'Snooze'

No longer are you going to be a victim of the past, or a victim of the future, where you have projected negativity.

No longer are you going to be a victim of anything that anyone has ever said about you. Or be a victim of the things you've said about yourself.

Prefixes (In a loose way) like "I'm trying" "I wish" and "I want to" need to be replaced with

"I AM"

Doing the above can make a difference, a big difference in how you approach your day and in turn, your life.

The next and last part gave me three, er four actually, lines that I may well stick on the wall I stare at from time to time. Currently it's blank which is just like my look, plenty of the time.

  1. How Can I Grow ?
  2. What Can I Give ?
  3. What Can I Celebrate ?
  4. I don't want to be the same anymore, I want to evolve.

Coincidentally(As it was just once 😉) I read this the other day and it compliments the second one. Picasso wrote,

"The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away"

Nicely done Pablo. Now ending with two quotes from Alice In Wonderland. This fits with how we can control ourselves by the choices and decisions we make now. Start that post, buy that domain, make that phone call, send that text. Change that life, be it yours or someone else's.

The first fits again but this time with number four. The second just works with life in general.

"I can’t go back to yesterday because I was a different person then."– Alice

Alice: “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”

The Cheshire Cat: “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.”

Alice: “I don’t much care where.”

The Cheshire Cat: “Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.”

Cool then, that's page one sorted, only another one and half to go.

Have a splendid day.

I feel like I am in Alice in Wonderland, as I am going backwards through your posts and it is giving them a surreal quality of knowing the future and what comes after, whilst reading the past in the now.

I have been reading similar material about time and actions. 'You can't should have done something last Wednesday' was a quote that has stayed with me. It doesn't matter what you should've done, you did it and it's over.

Alice in Wonderland seems to be haunting me of late, maybe always. But your quotes here, (once again) seem to be what I needed to hear.

I have spent most of my life striving and planning and climbing, worrying and caring. For the first time 'I don't much care', and therefore have no place to go, nobody to be and no action to perform. Liberating. Thank you Alice and Thank you Twack! Much love Sara xx (maybe the late hour and wine are taking their toll!! )

I am beginning to realise that although there are some wonderful quotes of recent times, the ones from the distant past are truly great. Maybe that's why they've stood the test of time.

Wow! I love the post. Thanks for the motivation. Bookmarked, because I must read this again. Thanks, Twack!

You're welcome Mickey, it was fun to write also. Always learning.

I like the line from Picasso. Thank you for posting it. I had not read it before.

Nice post. Now for some change.....

Thank you very much. I had no idea Picasso had anything to say, appears he did and some of it pretty profound.

Nicely done Twack. That was my favourite line by the way - "Nicely done Pablo". So true as Linda has written below, if the words resonate they can have a big impact.

Insightful post, thank-you :-)

You're very welcome Lisa and thank you. I think I'm finding out better ways of learning, which is always nice.

Good post Twack.
I have been watching some videos or rather listening as I work.
They too are about evolving (coincidence?)
I am much more focussed and getting more done as a result.
Amazing what the right words can do if they resonate with you.

You're so right. Yet, we still have to take the action, make the choice and follow through with a decision. Like getting my garage 😉

Oh yes but being more focused on work means you take action.

Can't wait to hear when you start the planning.
Do the drawings and have everything worked out. Then you are bringing it into reality.

That is good reading
I’m big on motivation but without change it’s just motivation
Any way two of my favorite authors in one post
Love that too
Tim
PS
Keep writing
I appreciate it

I, in turn, very much appreciate you taking the time to read and thank you for that.

Get up and out of bed. Do not press the snooze. Hmm...I like that!
Thanks for sharing.

No worries Beatrice, my pleasure. Just swing those feet out and onto the floor, sorted.

Awesome quotes! Love this one! Thanks for sharing.

Christine

My pleasure Christine, always welcome.

You have made some awesome points Twack. I particularly love the 'Alice' quote, if you really don't care about where you're heading, just move in any direction, but move you must. Jim

At some point I may well end up reading the book, there are some really good quotes, from what I've seen.
Taking action is most definitely where it's at.
