For a long time I have sold flagpoles on the Internet. It was a pretty good business until the recession hit and then it died. It picked up again last year but died this year. Carson is helping me revive it and he had me move it to WP which I spent all day yesterday doing. Now I will be able to blog and add pages to may help bring customers to my store. Like the IWS deal, all products are drop shipped and I am a dealer, not an affiliate marketer.
My Son, King Midas Jones
My son is a vet and he has a lot of kids, 15 to be exact, 11 are adopted. I think they have that many dogs too. They had a lot of cats but they had bad luck with their beautiful cats and now have none.
My family is very musical and my son, like my grandfather (and not like me), can play any musical instrument. He bought a harp not too long ago and received it early in the week and played it in church on Sunday. He plays the bagpipes too, but his main interest is the guitar, mandolin, violin, accordion and flutes and whistles of the Irish variety.
He came to me and asked me to help him move his flute business to the web. He had a great email list to start and as soon as we set it up his business took off. He often posts an instrument on Ebay with his signature pointing to his store: doc@irishflutestore.com. We started using a Paypal service which I will get back to. Everyday he packs up flutes and whistles and other instruments and carts them of to the post office. He buys, trades, and sales. Sounds like a pawn shop.
Patrick does not use drop shippers. He works with manufacturers mostly in Ireland but worldwide.
King MIdas Jones Expands Into Herbs
My son is a consultant for a local herb supplier and now make extracts from herbs which he also sells. He lectures and recently had a conference at his home bringing in a big wad of dough in one day. I told him to have some books ready for his conference including his two unpublished books. He did get books from a publisher at a great price and sold them like hotcakes. And he expanded his mailing list.
So he wants to put his business on the web which I have been able to do and we are moving to WP. I'm not an expert but I'm good enough to get things going, which we are doing. Besides, I gave him my copy of WP for Dummies.
My point here is that taking a home-, office-, or store-front business is possible and can be more profitable than starting from scratch than affiliate marketing if you have a customer base to start with. The reason is simple, you send an email that you are now on the Internet and the news spreads like wildfire. That is the reason you want to be in a niche where you are trusted.
