Myth 7: A Short Subject Line Guarantees Conversion

Marketers are obsessed with length; from keyword length, blog content length to email subject line length there are always theories on how to get it right.

It is true a shorter subject line (less than 60 words) will increase open rate but does it guarantee click-through or conversion? Long subject lines were found to have a higher read rate in a study by Return Path in 2015.

Thefocus should not be on the length of the subject line rather on personalizing it as this has been shown to increase the open rate.

Conclusion

Email marketing still remains an integral part of any company’s marketing strategy. By avoiding these myths you will be able to tap the full potential this marketing tool offers.

Now that you know what not to believe start building a solid strategy based on your email list and business needs.

Great training!

One comment about transactional emails having a high open rate is that it is not surprising, but expected. Because transactional emails are in response to a transaction. For example, confirmation of a purchase or notice of shipment. Or even account info in response to a lost password.
