The WA Keyword Tool will always provide your exact keyword search first in your search results. In our case, it is Reasons to love black cats.
Let's take a look at our results:
Let's discuss first the Searches and Traffic column.
The Searches column is how many searches this keyword phrase has received in Google in the previous month. It is approximately how many searches are performed each month using this particular keyword phrase based on how many searches were performed the prior month.
The Traffic column is the average amount of traffic that the top ranked site for this keyword phrase could potentially achieve. Notice, I said top ranked site. This is not the number of traffic your website will receive, unless, of course, you are the top ranked site. If you have a new website, chances are you will not be the top ranked site. That takes time.
Each of the numbers indicate less than 10. Many people would immediately disregard this keyword phrase because of the low numbers shown. However, there is something to be said about low-hanging fruit. Kyle covers this in the training. Low-hanging fruit are basically low competition keywords.
If you have a new website, going for the low-hanging fruit can be your best strategy for getting traffic to your website. Many web developers will only consider the higher competition keywords, but by targeting low competition keywords, you can be more likely to receive traffic, because it is easier to achieve. It is true that you might not receive much traffic with a low search and traffic column number, but better to receive a little traffic than none at all. Even if you are only able to get one sale every two months from a low competition keyword, that is still money in your pocket and it adds up.
One of my keyword phrases has less then 10 searches in both the search and traffic column. But, as a result, over time, I was able to dominate the first page of Google, meaning that all of the links on the first page of Google, pointed to my website and I have received a number of hits and sales from that single keyword phrase. I did a blog about it but I deleted it later due to the amount of negativity received....
One point I really wish to stress is to use your gut and instinct when it comes to keyword phrase selection. You know your niche better than anyone. You know your target audience better than anyone. You know your competition better than anyone. You know what is ultimately best for your website. Trust your inner self and examine the numbers based on what you think will work given your niche, target audience, competition, etc.
Thanks,
Sami
