Though I have already done training on the use of long tail keywords, see link to that training below, it is worth mentioning it again because using them more often, will increase your SEO.

LONG TAIL KEYWORDS FOR BETTER SEO

Why should you be using long tail keywords more often in your website content? Because they rank higher and quicker than regular keywords of 3 or less words, also known as “fat head” and “chunky middle” keywords. They also rank quicker because they are usually low competition and more specific. A potential buyer is more likely to use a long tail, which is why they make up 70% of all search queries.

When a website uses a lot of long tail keywords Google takes notice, because other than them being 70% of search queries, long tails are more user friendly. As I am sure you are probably aware of by now, when a website has great User Experience (UX), Google rewards that website with better SEO rankings. If you are not aware of the benefits of UX, perhaps I should do some training on it. What do you think?

A website that uses many long tail keywords tend to get more interaction and this all ties into a good UX, which makes the Google algorithm happy. This is not to say that all of your keywords have to be long tail, but the more the better your SEO will be. About 99% of my website pages and posts that have made it to Google page 1, has a long tail keyword as the title and appears in the key areas. This is what I will discuss next.

My most popular post is the longest one I have done at around 3,000 words.

It makes a huge difference when trying to establish authority.

People also like to share long-form content. It makes them look and feel smarter to the people they share it with even if they don't read the whole thing.

I guess it's safe to say size matters :)

Wow, 3000 words! That is like the length of many of Neil Patel's blogs and he practically always ranks on Google page 1. But bigger is always better because Google loves websites with content.

Once you get going, it can be hard to stop writing. But the more detail you can put into a post, the more your readers like it. Tell them absolutely everything on the subject of your post and you will outrank your competition.

I know the feeling because I write a weekly 2000 word blog for one of the WA Ambassadors website and I always find myself trimming down my content. :)

About number one. I have thought a lot about it. It´s proven that long articles are good for Google ranking. But are they good for the business?
What I have in mind is:
1) Proven that long articles are good for Google.
2) Are they good for readers? I have been watching one guru which always have huge articles and have proved his ranking performance But, I have newer managed to keep reading after 30-50% of the article. I read a lot, but I must think about my time too, and it´s floating in excellent articles on the internet (and very bad articles too). And when I have an article, even so it's well written, which take a circle to come to the point I don´t have time.
3) If people don´t read it, they newer come to the end of the article where the affiliate link, recommended by many like Jay, for example, are so they will not buy.
4) If the articles are shorter and more focus on getting the point, it looks like it´s not ranking well. With point 1) in mind.

So, what is the right way to do? I´m confused!

Yes long articles are better. If people want to read the whole article they will. Just make sure you have good headings, because people skim on the internet a lot. They have lower attention spans.

Short answer: longer the better and use good headings :) Sprinkle in lots of creative pictures too.

To address your concerns.

1) Long articles are definitely good for Google. Why? Because Google indexes content and not just keywords and you get rankings and traffic based off of your content as a whole and not your keywords.

2) Long form is good for readers, especially when using proper UXO (User Experience Optimization), so that your content is created for both the visitor that reads it all and those who skim through the content. Always create your content with that in mind.

Don't create content based on how you feel it will be comfortable for you. More information is always better for SEO. In one of the Bootcamp lessons, Kyle says to go back into content which is thin and add more to make it more authoritative.

There are many authority content posts online that I do not fully read either, but I will bookmark them to come back to when I have more time. Neil Patel is one who I read a lot from and I hardly ever read all of his content in one sitting and his content is LONG Long Form.

3) This is not always true. Again if you are using good UXO, you can still capture people near the end. Plus you do not have to put your affiliate links always at the end. I always utilize the sidebar so it appears higher on every screen.

4) Providing good UXO can solve a lot of issues. Plus you also must understand that not every piece of content on your website needs to be Long Form. About a 50 percent ratio is a good start.

Yep you are absolutely right. people say they don't like long messages but guess what? LONG rocks! I have tested short emails Vs long, short articles Vs Long, short lead capture pages Vs LONG and guess what wins in ALL categories for conversions? PLUS you're correct. LONG attracts search engines as well. In fact I haven't written short copy in months. My last pre-sell page was over 4,000 words. Talk about windy!

About 80 percent of the content on my website is long form and I do that naturally because I like to be thorough in my content.

Yeah, I try to make my piece of content as long as possible. One trick I use is look at the top 10 sites that rank for the keywords you targeting. Include everything they have in your article.

Lots of good information in this tutorial. What do you think will be the biggest factor in SERP rankings in 2016?

Thanks! Writing 2000 word pieces of content comes easy for me, 80 percent of my content is long form and most times I'm trimming it down.

I think semantic search and indexing will become a bigger factor because that is where Google search is headed.

I agree. What is funny is the SEO's that still optimize for keywords, but don't focus on actually increasing the value of their content, frequency, etc.

This is because SEOs are not focusing much on UX, another important ranking factor, and solely on keywords. Google wants websites that are focused on the end user and not the search engine algorithms. One day soon SEOs will realize this.
