Permalinks play a major role in the helping our websites run seamlessly. Many times due to user errors, permalinks get changed resulting in broken links, pages not being found and more. In this training I will show you some of the ways users may unintentionally change permalinks and then I will show how to change permalinks in Word Press for single posts and pages.

WARNING! - Do not mess with the structure of permalinks unless you really know what you are doing! Changing the structure of your permalinks could have a major impact on your website’s SEO. A disruption could very well cause errors and broken links.

Word Press will use the custom structure of /%postname%/. This is probably the best one for most people to use. Therefore, don’t go messing unless you have given much though and have planned for what you want to do. Most of us should stay away from changing the structure of permalinks because we probably don’t have the knowledge and expertise in this area. I’m just showing you this so you can have a better understanding of what your permalink structure is.

This training was a big help but I wonder if you could help out on something. I did the 6 steps and changed two titles and then noticed this error message under SiteOrigin Page Builders News.

RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: cURL error 7: Failed to connect to 2400:cb00:2048:1::6819:7e75: Network is unreachable

Not sure if it was a direct result from me changing title or not. Not even sure what the error means. Any thoughts??

Thanks so very much.
Lynn

Hey Lynn,

This may be an issue with SiteOrigin Page Builder. Check with SiteSupport to see if they can assist you with this... as that plugin may be one that cannot be used on the WA servers... at least, that's my guess.

Hope you find this helpful.

Trish,

Thanks so much for helping out with Lynn's question. I haven't been on for a bit because I took some time for myself and went to my family reunion if NC. Got some rest and some enjoyment with my family.

Yes, I did, but now that I'm back home I realize just how tired I am!! I had to take a two-hour nap today! I need a rest from my mini-vaca!

Hi
I have just restarted a blog I was unhappy with. What I have noticed is I now have the date in my permalink, Should I change this in settings to custom in order to erase the date portion of the permlink.

The only way I would alter the permalink settings would be if it was something other than what is shown in the above image. The custom structure should be ticked and in the white box it should show /%postname%

If your custom structure is correct in the permalink structure, then you can follow the examples to change the permalink for your posts/pages as shown in the training.

I created a new post recently and misspelt the word "entrepreneur" (as "entrepreur"!)... so I may need to revisit this training to make the correction. Thanks for this!
